Crit vs Ability

I have noticed many builds use ability based modifiers for bastet. I have decided to try a different style focused less on her abilities and on the speed/damage of the flail. The play style is akin to that of a classic nemesis with a pull/stun from the bastet ult and the added benefit of the root from skill 3.

Please feel free to light me up over this build, it is entirely experimental for me!

Well if you're going for what would be a basic attack build (crits from Rage, DB, Demon Blade + Qin's passive applying only to crits), then I don't think you should choose Bluestone Pendant unless you're sort of intending it to be a hybrid (basic attack + ability) build.

That said, before we go further, I'd like to know, how many basic attacks do you expect to apply to a given enemy at once? How are you using your abilities to get more basics in?

Thoughts:
  • I assume you're relying on Ensnaring Claw to lock enemies down for a bit, due to the root and slow. That said, leveling it increases damage, but doesn't provide decreased CD, increased CC lockdown, etc. It really should be your last priority in leveling. You can get very reliable damage from Razor Whip and so it should usually be your first priority, other than perhaps your ult (where you get decreased CD with each level). Your second priority should be Pounce as the damage is generally good and you get decreasing CD.

Also, your skill leveling otherwise is messed up as you have 7 points in your 3. That needs to be fixed.

  • So you're not going to sit there getting 5 hits off on an enemy consecutively, right? At least, you can't regularly expect that. Why not at least make this more well-rounded, by replacing Demon Blade with Fail-Not, making this at least a more hybrid build where you can still deal good damage regularly with abilities, whether or not you get basic attack hits in?

  • And while Qin's Sais is a great DPS item, you need to be getting consecutive hits in to do that. Instead, consider replacing it with Hydra's Lament in your main build, giving you further CDR for ability use, and increased damage on basic attacks immediately after ability use (such as locking them down with Claw). I wouldn't have Qin's as your standard item.

  • You also do list Hastened as an optional 6th...that's an item that will allow you to stick, but if you're intent on saying Rage DB and Demon are core, then Hastened should be core too, not The Crusher.
While I definitely don't recommend crits on Bastet, I'm sure you can have fun with a crit build, but I would definitely make some adjustments to still allow it to fit her strengths at the same time (e.g. abilities).

I picked Crusher over hastened for the power over hastened, also it increases the dmg of subsequent attacks, allowing for more damage in less hits.

I tend to only need 3-4 hits to kill most enemies other than tanks with this build; also I find that of the starter items for slash and arena, bluestone provides the most sense, because yes this is still a "hybrid" if you would call it that. It is irresponsible to ignore ability damage totally.

My moveset has focused pounce into claw to slun and then kill with basics, eliminating the razor whip mostly from the combo.

I have both Qins and hydras as last items for situational use.
