Hey everyone! I'm OMGASIA, casual Smite addict. While I know how to enjoy all casual game modes, I mostly play Joust and Arena. I’ve decided to start getting basic guides up for new Gods as they are released so there is a starting point for players who weren’t able to test them on the PTS. This isn't meant to be a definitive end all be all on Hou Yi. This is the way I've enjoyed playing him so far, and possibly others will enjoy as well!
Season 2's patch has brought a few changes to Hou Yi, as well as the entire game. With a new UI, new and changed items, god changes, and even a new Conquest map, you may feel overwhelmed! To read all the changes click here!
Here are your Hou Yi specific changes.

While I break these builds down into simple sauce, consider reading Professor Proxy – Advanced Class: Unicorn Vs. Crit for a more in depth analysis of the differences. It's long but filled with awesome information.

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.

Awesome guide. I should of found you ages ago.
Aww thank you. I just do what I can <3
Oh, wow my bad. I noticed there was an inconsistency between the build at top and the one below, but I can see that this was changed since then (maybe it was just something between different publications). I've actually read all the Prof Proxy articles and had been building
No don't feel dumb! Stuff is always situational <3 If the enemy team has no healer or lifesteal and and is a bit tanky then
I've almost always seen Unicorn build with

Hey, still really great guide but just one note: On the section for the Sunicorn build, you put

Hey there, first I'd like to say you have a really nice guide here. I mastered Hou Yi pretty quickly after release and took an odd amount of liking to his play-style and potential.
First, I see that you acknowledged in the comments that his [3] is a good escape, but it still lists in the guide multiple times that he has no escape. And Divebomb (while it being slow and not that far) is one of the more useful escapes i've seen via the suedo-invulnerability it provides.
One suggestion for the guides from personal experience and tinkering: I've found Enfeebling/Weakening Curse Actives to be very helpful with Hou Yi.
- They provide a good slow prior to using Sunbreaker. That with the 1 Stun will allow maximum damage from the Ult. I've used it many times now and it works wonders if done correctly.
- It can help chase or act as a tool to get away in combination with Divebomb.
- You can use it to prevent healing while they are slowed. = Huge in Team Fights.
- The other curse slows attack speed, which allows you yet another big duel advantage.
Anyways, that's my 2 cents. Great guide! Keep it up.
Thank you so much for your compliments and input! Yeah I wrote up the preliminary guide before he was released on the PTS, and finished it after the PTS was done. The notes didn't talk about his movement speed increase on divebom so I started with that, and totally forgot to rescind that information after! Thanks for reminding me I'll fix it. I'll also add in your knowlege as well, crediting you of course. Thanks for the help!
Holy **** that map change alone may make Xball like a high tier God, and Artemis too. It's also like an unintended buff to items like the golden bow and the oddesyeus bow!
I am no Conquest pro (I rarely play it) but I am excited to see what happens. While I don't know much more than meta basics, so I can't tell you what would change, I do know some things will be changing for sure!
