Wrong. Service still installs. It just defaults to "pause" mode. Mine already does that but that's not good enough. I do NOT want it in memory when I'm not using smite.

Shutting the service down is the only way to do that. My script merely automates this process. This violates no rules.

Again... no offense, but you don't know what you're talking about.

like i said this info is all from hi-rez employee/intern

Done.

Excellent.

The script will take care of everything else.

Ummm... what? After setting it to manual, what do I do? Do I just click "smite" from my desktop normally?

(Sry for asking "silly" questions, I sincerely have no idea in programming or w.e. this is)
-Thanks.

After setting it to manual, pop open that script and make sure that the path of the shortcut links to the smite shortcut.

So if you put the smite shortcut on your desktop it would be something like:
START "" "C:\Users\%username%\Desktop\smite.lnk"

This feature is entirely optional. You could manually launch smite by double clicking on the smite short cut AFTER the script has done its work. But its just easier to have the script launch smite in my opinion.

Look, this is all the script does:
1. Turns ON the hirez authenetication service.
2. Launches smite.
3. Waits for you to tell it you are done with smite.
4. Turns OFF the hirez authentication service.

That's all it does.

So if the service is set to manual right now, it is probably still active which is fine. The script will attempt to turn it on, figure out its already running, and then skip to the next part. If you keyed in the path of your hirez shortcut properly then the launcher will load up. When you're done it will close the hirez authentication service.

The next time you run the script it will actually turn on the service because as of the last running the service will have been turned off.

Regardless, setting the service to manual and setting the path to your short cut are the only two things you need to do. Do that and you just need to run the script to play smite. Nothing else. And the authentication service will not be in memory or be running or be snooping unless you're actively playing smite.

I work with computers for a living. If someone handed you a pencil and said it was a horse... what would you think was in your hand. A pencil or a horse?

I know what the service is and does because I looked at it and I've worked with it enough to understand it.

there is zero risk and setting the install that way does not mean the service doesn't stay in memory. Type in "services.msc" and look at your own services. You'll find the hirez authentication service in memory and running.

I rest my case.

It's not even about the ram, you know? 3k? sure why not. BUT, I am not playing, why should it be running? Why should I press Ctrl Shift Esc and see the ****ing processes in my list?

Maybe a dumb question, but how exactly do I edit the path to executable? I can't find any option under services to change that.

Not sure which executable you mean. :)

You can change the path in the script to whatever you want.
