Welcome to my Anubis build guide. Not everyone may agree with it, but I find it extremely useful for when I play him. I will talk through my items and why I feel each is important to this set. Afterwards I will explain my skill sequence and combos. And last I will talk about how to use him with your team and farming strategies that I find very useful. This build I use mainly with Arena and MOTD, and sometimes Domination and Conquest.
You don't have to read the whole thing if you don't want to but I would recommend it as it explains this build and how it works with Anubis.
And if you choose not to read through the guide, but my build works for you give me a vote so it has the chance to be seen and potentially work for someone else too!!
First, I recommend you build these items directly in order, and I will explain why I get each item and why it is important Anubis' play style.
I start of by getting the Shoes of Focus is a must because it gives you an essential cool down that is very helpful on Mages. Shoes of the Magi may replace these if you play Anubis particularly aggressive for the extra magic penetration but this will cause you to take a slightly different item route I will talk about afterwards.
Second, the Ethereal Staff. You might not have seen any Anubis players with this item. But something I learned early on is that Anubis will die, very quickly if he tries to initiate and there is more than one enemy target in the area. Ethereal Staff gives you plenty of Health and Mana allowing you to stay out longer and land more skills, therefore giving you more chances to get kills, assists, minion gold, and get out of bad situations.
Third, the Obsidian Shard. This cheap little guy gives you a nice amount of Magic Damage as well as a great amount of Magic Penetration. Getting this item should be a no brainer.
Fourth, Bancroft's Talon. This item, besides the Magic Power and Magical Life steal that is very useful on Anubis because it adds to his passive and gives you a great amount of sustain with his Area of Attack (AOE) skill. Bancroft's Talon's passive is also useful in tight situations when you have low health to get that nice boost of Magic Power to finish off enemies in close fights.
Fifth, the Spear of the Magus. While it may be a weaker item compared to others available, the way Anubis' combo (which I will cover in the next chapter) works stacks with the passive of this item perfectly, and will help you get the maximum amount of damage output you can in a single combo.
Sixth, if you are building the Rod of Tahuti as item number 6 you are either really fed, and this will help, or it is late game, and this will help. The Rod of Tahuti gives you an incredible amount of Magic Power, and stacked with the Magic Penetration you are receiving from other items this will almost always confirm a kill with his combo. This a great item for any Mage in both late game, or in a fed game.
With this guide potions are only really needed early on, and I have never needed to by meditation because of constantly being out of Mana. This gives Anubis a good balance between damage and being able to survive and sustain during the game.
Now for the Alternative.
If you chose to get Shoes of the Magi I am going to recommend a slight change in the build for a couple different reasons. Getting Shoes of the Magi is going to give you Magic Penetration, so getting an Obsidian Shard will just become useless, especially with Spear of the Magus as Magic Pen. caps off.
Chronos' Pendant is obviously for CD reduction that you are no longer getting by having Shoes of Focus. And its MP5 will go extremely well with the Rod of Tahuti, allowing you to stay out and spam those AOE's for days.
Gem of Isolation as a more aggressive Anubis player you are going to want to maximize the time your target is spending within your abilities range. Having a lot of AOE abilities this will ensure that you are slowing (this slows stacks with Grasping Hands as well) this will make it a lot easier to follow up on a kill that you might not have gotten on a combo.
The Ethereal Staff is not needed in this build because of the slight Health and Mana boost you are getting from the Gem of Isolation and the MP5 you get from Chronos' Pendant and the Rod of Tahuti. Both of these builds are incredibly effective and will make you a positive asset to your team and a problem for the enemy. Choose which works best for you as I can go back and forth between both of these builds and do well with either.
So Anubis' passive, Sorrow in a nutshell, steals magical and physical protection from an enemy, as well as increase his ITEM based Magical Life Steal, notice I said item based not just Magical Life Steal, and gives him a 30% reduction to Crowd Control. This stacks three times, and per stack you steal 7 protection and gain 33% Magical Life Steal.
[1]: Plague of Locusts is a controllable AOE cone in front of you and deals a pretty good damage dealing ability.
[2]: Mummify I feel one of the most useful skills on Anubis, it is a skills ****, and if landed it wraps the Enemy and hold them there for a short period of time. You can Land this to either get away, help an ally get away, help your allies initiate, or set up your combo.
[3]: Grasping Hands is a great skill to both farm with and to use in coordination with your team, as it both slows and deals damage. It is an AOE circle that you can place anywhere within Anubis' range.
[4]: Death Gaze, Death Gaze is a movable line shot that lasts for 3 seconds and deals a massive amount of damage and is a very good way to secure a kill, or line up with your teams crowd controls (as well as your own)
NOW FOR THE COMBOS!!
One of the most satisfying combos to land and deal enough damage to either kill or send an enemy back to base is his [2] [3] [1], or a slight variation [2] [3] [4]. This combo is 100% dependent on you landing that Mummify skill shot. Ideally, as soon as you shoot Mummify you are placing Grasping Hands beneath the enemy to both slow them when the Bandages wear off and deal Life Stealing Damage to the enemy. As soon as those Grasping Hands are underneath the Enemy start either your Plague of Locusts or your Death Gaze (depending on how tanky the enemy is and how badly you want to kill him). Land one of these combos, which by the way can lead to multi-kills as well if it is in a team fight (I have gotten 3 quadra's and countless triples off of it myself) and you will be having a good day, as will your team.
One of the more simple combos, if you are fed enough is an easy [2] [4]. If you haven't seen the trend Anubis' combos all rely on that Mummify Skill Shot. If you are fed enough or are going against a really squishy enemy, simply stun them with your Mummify, then let the Death Gaze do the rest. If done correctly you have just gotten a 2 button kill. Don't forget to aim that Death Gaze to maximize the amount of time the Enemy is taking Damage from it!
And of Course, if any of these should fail the first time, you have the option to chase (as you are somewhat Tanky from my build and have a useful escape tool with your Mummify) and try to finish them off with a Grasping Hands in their path.
Anubis is great for sitting back, then coming up and doing a great amount of damage when the enemy least expects it. His Mummify is great for helping your team initiate Team Fights because if someone from the enemy team gets cocky or is out of position you can catch them and get the momentum rolling for your team. Besides initiating though, if a teammate is being chased by an enemy and is low, go help them out! Lead the enemy chasing and either hit them with your Mummify or put Grasping Hands in their path so they have no choice but to back off. Likewise, if you are being chased, turn around and Mummify whoever's chasing you! Either you team will see it and jump on them, or you'll get enough distance to get back to a tower, or to your home base in Arena. Also, a good way to ensure a kill for your team, is Mummifying an enemy after another team mate has stunned them to keep them there for that much longer taking damage from your team.
Farming strategy
A farming strategy I like to use with Anubis is to either A) put Grasping Hands under enemy minions, or by B) Walking to the side and hitting a line of enemy minions with Plague of Locusts or C) a combination of the 2. I would not recommend using your Ult on a line of minions unless you are trying to troll your team, which is never good, unless of course you are winning.
So to sum it up, Anubis is a great character, very fun to play, and not that hard to master. If you can get his combo's down and use this guide for building him, you should have a great day playing Anubis.
This is the First Guide I have ever made in my life, so if you have any questions/comments or advice to improve this by all means let me know. What I do not want to get is negative comments as that does not help me, or people looking at this guide trying to learn about Anubis.
Thank you for your time I hope this answers any questions you may have about Anubis!

I am using build 1 although I swapped Ethereal Staff for Warlock's Sash and Obsidian Shard for Gem of Isolation.
Obsidian Shard, I have no idea. And I usually rush Bancroft's Talon on Anubis. But I don't know enough about to state an opinion.
But what I was wondering about was the reasoning behind picking Obsidian Shard and Spear of Magus. See the whole point of Anubis is to get essential lifesteal at the beginning to lane for as long as possible, and I definitely think I will try the Ethereal Staff, but replace Shard for Gem of Isolation or Warlocks Sash without a doubt. I would also try re-organizing how you buy the items because the health is nice, but regardless your dead no matter what if you can't steal off the minions.
In the end I think your guide is very informative and well layered so I definitely give you props :) I would really reconsider the item purchase and how you finalize your build. -Vero :D
Thanks for all of the great comments and votes!
And Covertactician I have seen jungle Anubis before, I've never played it but I will definitely look into to and see what I can come up with!
Jungle Anubis is INSANE!! As I covered in one of my previous comments, he can burst down the camps REALLY fast, as well, his gank combos are great.

Alright here goes, how about a section for Jungle Anubis? Anubis can be a good jungler, as his Plague of Locusts has great camp clear, and hes got decent ganks with his Mummify and Death Gaze.
This is not needed, but if you had time for it I'd love to see it :)
Ethereal staff is useless unless your a tank.
pickup some more damage and you MIGHT SURVIVE
