Healing Potion &
Mana Potion
At the start of the game we will have enough gold for three potions. It is your decision on how many of which to buy. I prefer two
Healing Potion and one
Mana Potion. If you find yourself having health or mana issues later in the game feel free to buy a few.
Shoes of the Magi
Shoes of the Magi grants you Magical Power, Mana, Magical Penetration, and of course Movement Speed. The decision to upgrade from
Shoes to
Magic Shoes or
Shoes of the Magi varies from game to game. Ideally I plan to get them after
Book of Thoth.
You can upgrade your
Shoes earlier if you need the additional Movement Speed or Magic Penetration if they're stacking Magical Protection early.
Warlock's Sash
Warlock's Sash &
Doom Orb &
Book of Thoth
These items are your bread and butter, snowballing. The order in which you pick these up is dependent on your situation but grabbing Warlock's Sash before
Book of Thoth is generally better because it takes longer to stack.
Adding
Doom Orb into the equation is a high risk high reward move considering half your stacks are lost on death.
However, Anubis has amazing wave clear and can re-stack it extremely fast. I would only recommend getting
Doom Orb if you're ahead and are very confident you can hold onto that lead.
The reason
Book of Thoth is amazing on
Anubis is because he has one of the highest base mana pools in the game and nearly all of his viable items provide additional mana.
Rod of Tahuti
This item will give us additional Magical Power and MP5, but most importantly it increases Magical Power by 25%. With the stacks you have earned from your items, your abilities should now have very high damage capable of destroying most enemies with one ability rotation.
Gem of Isolation
More Magical Power, Health, and Mana. The special trait of this item is that nemies hit by your damaging abilities will move 25% slower for 2 seconds. Your
Plague of Locusts,
Grasping Hands, and
Death Gaze will all strongly benefit from this.
Obsidian Shard
More Magical Power and Magical Penetration so that we can rip through our enemies even more effectively.
Void Stone
This item gives us Magical Power and Magical Protection and at tier three it grants us an aura that reduces the Magical Protection of enemies within 55 feet. You should pick this up if you need the Magical Protection and/or the reduced Magical Protection of enemies.
Start for Anubis should almost invariably be Vampiric Shroud + level 1 Bancroft's Talon + pots
Finish up Bancroft's talon -> pen boots -> spear of magus or Chronos pendant (depending on need)
from there look at spear or Chronos pendant (which ever you didn't get above), Rod of Tahuti, obsidian shard, and/or gem of isolation.
as far as skill prioritization... also sub-optimal for most situations.
1>3>3>2>4 works so much better for most situations.
Starting w/ your 1 allows for quicker mid hapry and first wave clear, usually causing opponent to lose gold due to your minions taking tower damage (this is very important for an early game advantage, which anubis desperately needs). a tip on this: as the harpies spawn at +00:10 start your 1. as soon as they are dead rotate mid and position yourself so that the entire creep wave is hit by your 1's cone, this can be made easier by landing a few AA's on the the lead minions as they are coming down lane. Be careful doing this however as you do open yourself up to early poke, but if done properly, it is probably the best opening in the game.
This is a good build for Anubis, but I would like to point something out. I would always build Bancroft's Talon on Anubis simply because of his passive. His scaling on lifesteal is so huge that it can be a huge difference maker. Since his two highest damaging abilites Plague of Locusts and Death Gaze require him to stay still, the lifesteal can be the difference between staying alive and dying. It will also increase your sustain as it pertains to health.
I think it's a great build, I just wanted to offer my $0.02 :)
That effect came out in the last year or so right? Just starting up again and haven't gotten the chance to test it, but I will be sure to. Thanks :)
After taking a look at it, it seems Pythagorem's Piece with it's 300 mana synergizes better with the build and Book of Thoth. Will do further testing.
