Nox guide, CLICK HERE!Hey everyone! I'm OMGASIA, casual Smite addict. While I know how to enjoy all casual game modes, I mostly play Joust and Arena. I noticed there aren't many Nox guides up, and decided to share with you how I play her. This isn't meant to be a definitive end all be all on Nox. This is the way I've enjoyed playing her and possibly others will enjoy as well!

Siphon Darkness
Nox as much as anyone, but wrecking face with her was a little simple. The increased cooldown means Nox won't be AS spammy with her poke, but it will still be able to be chained. The magical power scaling change means it will also do a little less damage. While this is a nerf, I feel it is a very fair one.
Night Terror
Nox can move during this, so she can still follow players who try to get away from it. 1 second really isn't too too long. That being said, it IS long enough for people to try to CC you and prevent it.
Shoes of the Magi are a bit more valuable, but I'll go over that when I have time to update the guide properly.Changes for 1/14/15 (Hou Yi Patch)

Nox. Nothing has actually changed as far as I am aware, we just have a clearer understanding of what is going on. I had previously incorrectly assumed that the damage dealt after the initial hit was equivalent to the initial hit, but that is not the case.Changes from 12/17/14 (Awilix Patch)
Awilix patch brought some changes to Nox. If you didn't play her before Awilix came out you can skip this section. Her kit feels the same, but her passive and every ability was altered in some way. Nox went from being extremely underwhelming to very powerful. I personally wouldn't be surprised if she got hit with the nerfhammer a bit, but let's enjoy it while it lasts, kay?

How Is This Different? Nox still uses her candles as a passive it has changed significantly. The only abilities that seem to light her candles now are her own. No longer does Nox get a free ability once all the candles are lit. Now for each candle she gets 4% damage mitigation, up to 16% total. Whenever you take damage from a god you lose 4% of that mitigation, down to the regular 0%. Nox will be using more mana. I don't mind this, as 16% damage mitigation is a much better trade off, in my opinion. In the short time I had to test on the PTR I still had no mana problems on Nox.

How Is This Different?

How Is This Different? Nox wasn't meant to be a bursty mage, but more of a utility mage. We will see how she feels once the changes go live. Night Terror She can shut a single opponent down for 3-8 seconds.

Flame of the Night less noticeable. Night Terror has increased. This means it will be easier to get more enemies!

What Does This Mean For You? Nox can now hit up to three targets with her ultimate. But that's not all! Enemies can no longer break the link. At the end of the Night Terror all enemies will take more damage and be stunned. This can turn the tide of a team fight very quickly. Night Terror finally applies Shrouded in Darkness. This means that Siphon Darkness will do more damage to the enemies you hit with this ability.

Passive - Flame of the Night
Click Here For More Information Flame of the Night is a pretty awesome survivability passive. Every time you use an ability you gain 4% damage mitigation, up to 16% at max. The candles go down one by one when a GOD hits you, so hits from minions and objectives won't wear down your defenses. You CAN spam your abilities at the beginning of the game to max your defenses off the bat. If you do this you should do it in fountain so you start the game will full mana still.

Anubis uses any of his abilities on you, you'll only be protected for the first tick of damage, not for the entire ability. For this reason you need to be aware of what you're trying to protect yourself from and if it is worth the 20s cooldown.Click Here For More Information
Ymir's wall cast a spell after I cast this through it, so you tell me. Siphon Darkness spell, as explained below. Siphon Darkness for wave clear in jousts. The silence duration does go up .25 seconds with each point, so it's worth bringing up first or simultaneously if you find it suits your team and play style better.
3 - Siphon DarknessClick Here For More Information Siphon Darkness is a cute little ranged AOE (Area of Effect) ability. It will appear where you cast it for a moment before the damage actually goes into effect, similar to 
Osiris's 
Spirit Flail. This means that gods will have the opportunity to dodge your attack. Night Terror they will take an extra 50% of damage from your Siphon Darkness. This consumes the debuff on the target, so you can only take advantage of it once per nightfall raven or Night Terror cast. Siphon Darkness is what most Nox players use to clear waves instead of Nightfall Raven. It has a far shorter cooldown, however the radius is small enough that it takes two casts to hit the entire wave if they haven't been grouped. This means the wave clear will take a little longer, but it can also use more mana. If you practice you can position the circle to hit all three melee minions and two archers, then basic attack down the last one, saving mana. This is tricky to do when the enemy is trailing his minions, though.
4 - Night TerrorClick Here For More Information Night Terror is one of the best ways to laugh hysterically when a god dies. In addition to the damage done on hit, it damages the victims and reduces your cooldowns every time they use an ability, and again when the timer ends.
He Bo, he might kill himself by continuing to cast. Then again, he may just stop casting altogether. Either way you've helped your team by either killing him, bringing his health down, or making him almost useless for five seconds. It counts every ability cast while the spell is on the god meaning that yes, 
Xbalanque can kill himself by spamming his 
Branching Bola. Keep in mind you can hit up to three people, so in a Joust you may have just turned the tide of the game by being instrumental in a Deicide.
Click Here For More Information Siphon Darkness right after to consume the Shrouded in Darkness and do extra damage. If you miss your Siphon Darkness and are speedy quick you have a second chance to land it before the 5s is up.
Click Here For More Information Siphon Darkness to consume the Shrouded in Darkness. Night Terror will reapply Shrouded in Darkness for your next Siphon Darkness Night Terror as close to the silence wearing off as you can. This either prevents the god(s) from casting or helps you while penalizing them if they do cast. These two actions alone can effectively shut out a low health ability based god for 6-6.5 seconds. It may also kill them. Siphon Darkness right after the Night Terror ensures that you take advantage of the Shrouded in Darkness debuff, doing extra damage.

Main Items
Book of Thoth
Book of Thoth is my first stacking piece for the magic power: you get +150 right off the bat. I've found that the extra power gives me the oomph I need to get stacks faster. It also gives you up to +875 mana with full stacks. You can build warlock's sash first and Thoth third if you prefer, since warlock's sash has higher max stacks.
Shoes of Focus
Shoes of Focus are the staple CDR (Cooldown Reduction) piece for magic users. CDR is important on Nox because you want to be able to utilize nightfall raven as much as you can. Some people prefer to get boots first, however I like to leave that slot for a stacking piece so I can get my stacks up faster. If you're playing a Conquest it may be to your advantage to build your boots first.Warlock's Sash
Ethereal Staff.
Ethereal Staff Ethereal Staff is the go to when you want warlock's sash but don't have the time/ability to stack it. The specific stats you get vary by build, but it will always give you less magic power and health than a full warlock's sash.
Chronos' Pendant
Obsidian Shard
Obsidian Shard is a tricky little item to understand based on tooltip. It doesn't actually increase your penetration by 33%. It reduced the enemy's magical protection by 33% when it comes to your attacks. For example, an enemy can have 99 magical protection and with this item you will reduce it to 66% when you hit. You still technically don't have a set penetration base number so your skills will show 0 penetration if you use this piece alone. Using another piece with Obsidian Shard will add the penetration points to it on top of the 33%. It will not make the percentage increase larger.
Spear of the Magus
Spear of the Magus is a strong penetration item for gods with low cooldowns ((like Nox) or tick based gods (like Anubis). It offers more pen than Obsidian Shard for gods who can take advantage of stacking it, but less magic power.
Void Stone
Void Stone gives you the magic penetration you need to help you get through the magic defense most gods will have by this point. It will also give you a little bit of magic protection yourself.
Rod of Tahuti
Rod of Tahuti is the go to pewpew damage item for most mages. In addition to the +125 magic power, your magic power is increased by 25%. By end game you're going to be putting on the hurt.
Gem of Isolation
Gem of Isolation's 25% slow helps you land your Siphon Darkness skill a little easier. It also helps keep enemies near you after you've hit them with Night Terror.
Bancroft's Talon
Bancroft's Talon is the go to lifesteal piece for any mage. In addition to the 12% lifesteal chance, you also get bonus magic power the lower your health. This can potentially give you the edge when you're in a close 1v1.
Polynomicon
Polynomicon is also a nice lifesteal piece, though weaker than Bancroft's Talon. It gives a cute bonus to the basic attack you'll be doing while you wait for your 3 to come off cooldown. Keep in mind that the bonus damage can only proc once every 4 seconds. With full CDR your Siphon Darkness will be on a 1.8 second cooldown, so you won't be getting that bonus after every cast.
Soul Reaver
Soul Reaver gives healthy chunks of both magic power and mana. In addition, once every 60 seconds the god you hit with your next ability will take an additional 15% of their maximum health in damage. This can keep you a heavy hitter, even against gods with high magic protection.Defensive Substitutes
Hide of the Urchin
Hide of the Urchin is a great well rounded defensive piece. You'll gain a good amount of magical and physical protections. If you're just taking a lot of damage from both sources this will help.
Breastplate of Valor
Breastplate of Valor will give you physical protection and still give you full CDR. This would be used in place of 
Chronos' Pendant to give you a little more protection against those pesky physical gods.
Celestial Legion Helm
Celestial Legion Helm is another fairly situational piece. It offers less physical protection than Breastplate of Valor, however it can help give you the edge if you keep getting jumped by a critty assassin or find a crit hunter is melting your face. The boost to your magic power along with the 3s crit immununity can help you take out that opponent instead of the other way around. Keep in mind the passive can only proc once every 20s, so this item won't help you out every moment of combat.
Void Stone Void Stone helps give you some magical defense without having to sacrifice much magic power. This will also help any magical allies who are fighting enemies within 55 feet.Actives
Combat Blink
Combat Blink is a great tool for saving your butt. Get jumped by an assassin? Blink! Get a little too deep trying to secure that kill? Blink! Get caught in 
Odin's 
Ring of Spears? Blink! Keep this for when you need to get out fast.
Greater Aegis
Greater Aegis is great to save yourself from an ultimate like Anubis or 
Poseidon. You can't move while the active is in use, but you have damage reduction afterwards. You can use it while under CC.
Aegis Pendant
Aegis Pendant is the preferred item for some. It's similar to Greater Aegis however you can move while using it. It also stops CC, but you can't use it when you've already been CCed. You still get the damage reduction after the immunity.
Greater Purification
Greater Purification is a definite if you're facing a 
Hades or 
Ares, Hercules and Ymir as well. It will remove any CC on you and make you immune to CC for 3s. It also reduces your CDs by 5 seconds, so you're that much closer to a sneaky ultimate or silence.

Click Here For More Information Nox play seen in SWC2015. Players of Nox were PrettyPriMe and MLCst3alth. You can find their builds in the SWC2015 Pro Play section below. You'll notice the lack of CDR and the high penetration. This lets Nox hit tanks and other gods with protections harder. This build is subject to change based on the rest of the SWC. Siphon Darkness Night TerrorDay two of the first Smite World Championships (1/10/15) had Nox's pro play debut. Played first by PrettyPriMe of Titan, and second by MLCst3alth of COG Prime, Nox was brought into the competitive spotlight. I believe this will lead to a huge surge in Nox play now that people see she can be more than viable.

Book of Thoth or Soul Reaver. That late in the game I'm inclined to think Soul Reaver would have been the choice, however either could have worked. PrettyPriMe was getting enough kills that stacking Book of Thoth wouldn't have been too difficult.
Improved Blink can become Combat Blink or 
Greater Blink. With how well PrettyPriMe was using blink and Improved Blink to secure kills I think he probably would have stayed with Greater Blink. In a later game vs COG Prime, PrettyPriMe upgraded to Combat Blink, which is used for when you're almost exclusively focusing on using it to escape. Sitting on Improved Blink until later game when you decide what you need can make some sense for sure. Obsidian Shard, since it pairs very well with the other pen items and would help tear through
