But is anyone else hype for the fresh wave of games lately? It's been a very long time since I really enjoyed a multiplayer FPS. To put this in perspective, the last single player FPS I enjoyed was Wolfenstein, but I haven't extensively played an online FPS since... I think it was Halo 4? Which was 4 years ago (and even to that extent, I still played that game less than Halo Reach). Recently though I've found myself taken by them again!
Overwatch Beta came out close to a week ago and I immediately found myself struck by just how good it was. I've never enjoyed team based shooters (I still dislike my experiences with TF2 to this day, no offense to any of you who enjoy it) but Overwatch just seemed to have everything. I had pretty low expectations for Overwatch, but I was stunned when I found that I enjoyed every class, every character was well thought out and balanced, every role had its niche, it was strategic, fast paced, exciting and the characters are even amazingly compelling. To top it off, it's going to be one of those games that everybody plays, so I'll have no problem finding people to play with as well. I just.. why have there been no good shooters in the last 4 years to fill this gap?
To top that off, Doom just released this week. After finishing playing through the campaign just tonight I just... it's so good. It's SO good. Every encounter and room was dynamic, every fight a thrill, the challenge was always present but never had difficulty spikes (*shudders in remembrance of Bioshock Infinite*), and to top it off it has an amazing multiplayer mode as well. Doom actually reminds me more of Halo Reach (I think that's probably my favorite multiplayer shooter of all time as to date) than Halo 5 did. It's old school, no running, no aim down sites except for long range weapons with scopes, just raw, classic arena shooter gameplay, and that's EXACTLY my kind of FPS.
So now I have my attention divided by these two games, as well as Smite, as well as Smash (thank god it's summer and my workload isn't as bad). Are there any games you guys are hype for that are out/coming out? I know a lot of people are getting into Battleborn and people are super hype for No Man's Sky, but I'm curious what else is out there. It's a great time for gaming :)
This baddass, sassy and super funny adventure game is my passion at the moment, super worth it.
(Edna & Harvey: The Breakout)
(really needed a game like that, haven't really played any interesting single player ones since Gothic 3- absolutely worth recommending)
I know quite a few people that are planning on playing a ton of Witcher 3 this summer though, you are not alone.
Hopefully it doesn't flop like rome 2.
after that I'm not really hyped for anything except maybe getting my pc fixed.
I always disliked shooters myself. I do like futuristic ones tho
I was excited for Overwatch, and I played a lot of the closed beta (friend is a lead project manager or something), and it did satisfy an itch. You're right, there haven't been any good, new FPSs lately. That said, after a while, it just started to seem like a solid, if only evolutionary, new version of TF2. Gotta hand it to Blizzard, though. They know how to polish.
I'm really bummed that Zelda is delayed until next year, along with the new "NX" system. I have a Wii U, and boy has that been a disappointment. It'll be worth it if Zelda is solid, but...
We'll see what else is out there. I haven't been keeping tabs, but I'll be going to E3 and will see if anything sparks my interest.
I'm probably not going to ever get a WiiU though. I might grab an NX when it comes out, but nobody knows what it is yet so idk what I'm getting myself into when I say that.
