Hello everyone.

I somehow convinced my teacher in my college course to let me look at the use of Hinduism in table-top RPGs and video games. He allowed this as long as I could actually talk with players of these games and get their opinion. So I have come here to ask you some simple questions and I would really appreciate it if you could help by answering them.

The questions:

1. What do you think of the representation of the different Gods in Smite?

2. What did you know about Hinduism before you played Smite? Where did you learn it before?

3. Does the game make you want to learn more about the Hindu Gods (or Hindu myth in general)?

4. What do you think of the controversy with Hindu religious groups feeling offended over the use of Hindu Gods in the game? What do you think should be done about the issue?

1. I think most gods/goddesses are well represented in Smite and a lot of those who aren't are getting/have gotten a rework ( He Bo, Sun Wukong). There was a thread not to long ago that a lot of gods are to sexualized. I both agreed and disagreed with this because: A lot of gods have a reason to be sexualized (Making a ugly goddess of beauty is really counter intuited) and gods are suppose to be something a human looks up to and is superior to mortals so it makes sense that gods are mountains of muscle and goddesses are busty. I do still think some cloths that Hi-rez picked for some gods is questionable (There is no need for Eset to fight in noting but a bra and a pair of shorts).

2.Not that much I'm a fan of mythology and legends, but Hinduism was the one I knew the least of. Most of what I knew I learned in school.

3.Yes, I knew about almost all the Hindu gods in Smite, but I didn't know much except there name. Looking at there lore and appearance in Smite has made me interested do some research.

4. I can understand why some people would get offended, but I have not heard any good arguments to why its bad. The biggest argument they make is that Kali is to sexualized, but if you look at any other representation of her (statues, paintings) she is either completely naked or wears even less cloth then in Smite so I think that it's not a valid argument. I can't really think of a solution sadly because I would really see some more Hindu gods in smite (and a Kali rework).

PS: I like your name :P.

1. Aside from some certain extreme examples ( Aphrodite, I get she needs to be busty but the attention and animations they put into her decolletage is a bit much) I think they did pretty good. None of them are extremely against their lore, and they are all fun to play as and look at (cept Bacchus, but he is true to his lore so...).
2. Not much, I knew they had a bazillion and a half gods, and I knew a few.
3. Not yet. If they add one I have no idea about I might.
4. I feel for them. I heard HiRez was not going to add any more Hindu gods though.

1. The representation of gods in smite are very good. It is somehow better than most films and games (though some are over expressed like aphrodite )

2. Living in Indonesia makes me know many things about Hinduism, especially my cousin's family is Hinduism too. Though i don't know really much. What I know is : one of that celebration where everyone are silence for a day, putting some kind of blanket around statues, buildings temples, etc.

3. I like to but the images creeps me out a bit (that's why I like smite representation)

4. I understand about their problem but currently I have no idea of a solution. The best way might be ask for a Hinduism person to help them representate them in game

1. They made it into representing most of the gods successfully . but , as previous posters mentioned too , some goddesses have lesser clothes than they should (neith may be the best example) .

2. Not much because I didn't came over much material over it . The few things I've learned about Hinduism came from googling stuff , mainly Wikipedia .

3. It did in certain cases .
I became more curious about Vamana's story , the avatars thingy .
I've looked more into Kali already after I've played another game with a small touch on Shiva and Kali .

4. I think it's all wrong ,but this may be just me . I would not be mad if some guys would put Jesus in some game as Jesus is not MY propriety and I have no right to own the image of Jesus for myself . I have no reason to be mad on them since it would NOT affect my belief or my religion .
I took Jesus as an example because I am Christian and I believe in this stuff more or less , thus trying to see this from my religion's point of view .

1. I feel like a lot of the female gods wear clothes that are far too revealing. Unless we're talking about Aphrodite or Kali who were often completely nude in mythology, it just seems silly. Take Athena for example.

2. I knew very little and I still don't know all that much.

3. Actually, yes.

4. I think it's silly, but at the same time I understand why they would feel offended. Overall though, what ICEN said.
