Ok, so I am a very flexible SMITE player. I'd call myself pretty decent at all roles except support. Now, I say this NOT including Warrior support Gods, as the only one I like playing is Wukong and quite frankly he'd be better off being changed to a guardian. I main Geb, Ymir, and Sobek and I've noticed that I've really fallen behind when it comes to playing support, as I end up being too squishy early game and unsure of what to build (even though I know I should build situationally, I'm just not sure of the order). Can any Support players out there tell me how I may enhance my Early-Game support skills whilst skipping the basics? Thanks~

Ok! So this is the thing.

My new start with support is watchesrs, HoG, two wards and a ****load of mix pots. The build is not that important though. It's how you play.

For Geb I go watchers, midas, breastplate, void stone most of the time, sovereign, gem of isolation, some protections of some kind. Of course this is my "lazy build just go with it".

The main thing about supporting is knowing what you're facing, checking what the enemies use to do and stuff. Like every other lane but with two gods and check when they've used what skill at what time to guess the window you have to do some stuff.

When I play Geb support I max shield first. I have "most of the time" my shield prepared to be casted on my adc, unless I feel like there's nothing to worry about. If I feel that something could go wrong I still have my shield prepared on him, and if I need to do something I'll just cancel the shield, do stuff, and then prepare the shield again to be casted if needed. This is the reason I stay a little bit behind my adc if we have a minion wave or on the other side kinda having somewhere where I can see him and cast the shield fast if things go south. But always have it prepared. "Ready to be casted" wastes no mana.

The thing is: you're kinda squishy, yeah, but you're Geb. It's not like Sobek, who can be destroyed if he misses his dash, or Ymir, who must walk slowly early game towards the enemy to be able to do ****. With Geb play safe, have your shield ready. If you feel like you're just clearing, use your 2 to help clearing. If you feel like you're about to attack, do not.

Anyway, Geb is quite safe to play. Just the shield will make your adc on his own able to outpoke them.

And yeah, of course you're squishy. I cannot really explain how to be a good support though. It's my main role and I kind of know from the start what to do. Like playing mid or solo, one of the main things playing support is knowing who're you facing, what do they like to do, guessing when they're about to do something against you.

When I play athena and play against, say, anhur or something with a jump, I'll go in with my 1-3-2 combo a couple times. When they start to jump out everytime I dash, I'll just dash to them and back off or just walk near them to force the jump. That way they waste mana and the scape, while I still have my taunt and stuff for later.

If I lane against wukong, I'll play my 2 safer. I'll use it to knock up wukong if he goes tiger, let my adc hit him, start backing a bit, put a shield just right after he gets CCd. Ymir is always a ***** to fight though. Against gods like Ymir, stay as far from your adc as you can so only one of you will be hit. Against wukong and stuff, stay close kinda.

I know this won't help you at all, but it's kind of hard to explain. Just practice, play it a lot, be safe, and save your adc.

I'm a terrible support. :/

Just ward and stuff. Body block etc. Build Hog 3 first before anything else if you can. Get watcher's gift if you need the quick feed since you'll be leaving the clearing to your adc.

Support isn't so much a certain god classification as it is a way you play the game.

For example, while Neith isn't a "support god", you can play her support by using her ult to stun in teamfights, rather than using it to essentially KS.

A new and interesting thing I've seen is Support Janus. Using Portals, either on enemies or on walls, allows teammates to escape very easily.

Supports are most commonly associated with healz and tanks, but really it's more how you use your abilities.
Thanks to Ferrum for making the sig pic! He's beast af people.
