When you're loading into a match, and you see a guy rocking a gold skin, you'd like to think that they have it because they're fairly good with that god.

few things then are more disappointing than when that gold cupid ends up going 0/3/5...

well, you should see her/his mastery level too. If it's 1-2 it could be bad. If it is 3-5, it should be good, 6-9, should be great and 10 should carry the team

I'm fining that even mastery isn't a surefire indicator. I had an arena match the other day with a rank 10 Thor, and I was thinking that it would be a piece of cake.

But it wasn't. We barely managed to win that one...

Like I always say, levels and wins is never an indication of skill, it's just an indication of how much someone plays, although people that play more generally will be more experienced, but it is not guaranteed.

As Buddha said, levels are not an appropriate way to determine one's skill. For all you know, that play with the god at level 10 could just as easily be the worst noob in the game, persistent enough to keep playing and playing until he was complete.

As a rank 10 Hel, I can say that there are times that I have terrible games, such as when grouped against a Blink-Odin with a Zeus and Athena on his team...

Or coming back from a week-long vacation and being put on an EU server.

Unless you played with/against him multiple times, or he was making obviously poor plays, then it could just be a bad game.

There are mastery 10 players that just do awful in other modes. Played with a mastery 10 Loki in conquest and he fed a lot and kept complaining, I asked him how he got mastery 10 and he said he likes Arena more than Conquest. He shoulda stayed in Arena then...

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods.
