I swear things weren't this bad with Thano or Zhong when they came out...

That's because Zhong was pretty easy compared to Merc.
Everytime a new god comes out, there are 1000000000 people trying him out. And 999999999 of them fail horribly.

And also on Thantanos!!

Things were just as worse when Thanatos came out .Zhong wasn't that popular , I didn't saw people so eager to get him or arguing and quitting if they didn't get him . But I saw Thanatos players in the days just after his release feeding so bad they brought the whole team down .

Same for mercury .I've only met two good Mercuries so far and one was in 1 vs 1 .I've barely seen 3 mercuries with Heartseeker (which I think it's a very good item for Mercury since it provides a lot of physical power and movement speed which is actually even more physical power from Merc's passive) .

It's inevitable... But to be honest how can people get good with certain god without playing him? I always suck when I play a god for the first time :D

I have been able to play him quite well, which brings me to believe that there is one specific reason why so many players are bad with him: you must play him with a mix of aggression and defensive play style.

Mercury is a god that should be able to run into a fight, single out a target, and destroy them before being destroyed himself. With that said, I have found that most Mercury players enjoy running into fights and getting pommeled by an entire team. That is why they are bad.

My guide will include more on this theory when I update it soon.

The problem with Merc is that he is sooo squishy.

I think one of the biggest issues is that most of the bad people play him more like a carry than an assassin. They expect him to be able to survive much more hits, and underestimate his squishiness. (I did that in the beginning matches I played with him but quickly learned.)

Another issue I think is that most people don't know how to build him right. They just see his passive and assume they only have to buy items that affect his speed, assuming that the bonus power he gets is much higher than it is.

People absolutely underestimate his squishiness, that is very true and rather unfortunate. He must be played with caution, and running into a fight without some planning or pre-determined plan will get you killed. Assassins are picky in that way, in that they require a considerable amount of thought to do well. This is my opinion, of course.

As for the build, the effectiveness of a build has a lot to do with the player's play style. Even if a build has a lot of movement speed, if the player treats Mercury like he is not an Assassin then they will die a horrible death. The same can apply with a heavy phsical-power build. I am convinced that builds and play styles go hand-in-hand; if one is bad, then the other part will feel that effect. I like to think that my build works well with a cautious but semi-aggressive play style, but builds are also malleable and should stay that way.

Yeah, hes definitely an assassin. There are a lot of bads and a few less mehs. I've seen... 2 that i would call good. I havent even bothered playing him hardly (cept beating the pulp out of Ra bot a few times), because i am a horrible assassin. May or may not have something to do with them being 'picky that way' ;)
