I'm going to make my finalizing statement on Smite's balance here. The problem with balancing a game is, well, a balance of originality and fun to grounded reality. Sub's suggestion of removing swing chains may seem good in terms of balance; but then what would Osiris be? More balanced, sure, but not as unique. Odin's lunge is a bit silly, being 140 damage at rank 1, but isn't that a big part of what makes up his early game prowess? And as much as I hate to say it, without his scythe and airdrop, thanatos wouldn't be anything other than an early game assassin. Hi-Rez has made it firm that they always want to make new gods interesting and different from other gods, so that each one is fun and different in their own unique way; for example Athena's taunt and block, Vamana's ult, the 3 transformations of SWK, Nu Wa's tower damage/Team invis, Serqet's targeter and double projectile etc.

This is all fine and dandy, but it comes with a problem; some ideas, as awesome and fun as they are, are just too good. For example, as cool as the MOTHER OF ALL DEBUFFS in Divine Judgement is, it creates many issues (ask sub, he can detail it better than me). Also, some can be viewed as weak, for example ares only being useful as a tank despite having INSANE damage but no real peel. So those who say Hi-rez are just sticking thumbs in their ears, they aren't; they're preserving their ideas, however stupid or awesome they may be. Personally, I'm more for original ideas, but there's a fine line where it gets a bit crazy.

It all depends on your priorities really. Do you want Hi-Rez to focus on being original, or focusing on balance?

In theory, it should be a fine line between both. I applaud Hi-Rez for trying to come up with new things, but there are some balance issues.

SmiteFire & Smite
