So i was doing the math for Merc builds, and according to the character builder Mercs base attack speed at lvl 20 is 1.48. His 2 increases the speed by 70%, which is 1.03~. But that already brings him to the cap? What am I misunderstanding? Or is building attack speed on him completely worthless?

EDIT: Just tested it and it only brings him to 2.18 with no items. ?

Oh, I didn't know that really. But building attack speed on him however is by no means 'completely useless' as it requires him to first of all be level 20 (we're talking like 25-30 minutes in) and then having his 2 activated, so attack speed is still viable in my opinion. It definitely helps him when his 2 is on cooldown, as well as killing things faster on his way to late game.

Well, it does make sense, with your results, if 70% was just 0.7 attack speed.

However, I did read somewhere that attack speed does have diminishing returns (something along the lines of you lose 1% attack speed for every 10%), but I can't confirm this.

base attack speed + level * additional attack speed per level + AS of items * base attack speed + AS of buffs * base attack speed = attack speed

e.g.: Artemis has a base attack speed of 0.9 => so her 75% AS buff provides her +0.675 attacks per sec
