The jackal-god of mummification, he assisted in the rites by which a dead man was admitted to the underworld. Anubis was worshipped as the inventor of embalming and who embalmed the dead Osiris and thereby helping to preserve him that he might live again.
Anubis is portrayed as a man with the head of a jackal holding the divine sceptre carried by kings and gods; as simply a black jackal or as a dog accompanying Isis. His symbol was a black and white ox-hide splattered with blood and hanging from a pole. It's meaning is unknown.
Anubis had three important functions. He supervised the embalming of bodies. He received the mummy into the tomb and performed the Opening of the Mouth ceremony and then conducted the soul in the Field of Celestial Offerings. Most importantly though, Anubis monitored the Scales of Truth to protect the dead from deception and eternal death.
Early in Egyptian history, Anubis was a god of the dead. This role was usurped by Osiris as he rose in popularity.
The god of embalming is probably associated with the jackal due to the habits of jackals to lurk about tombs and graves. One of the reasons the early Egyptians sought to make their tombs more elaborate was to keep the bodies safe from the jackals lingering about the graves. It is only natural therefore that a god of mummification would be connected with them. By worshipping Anubis, the Egyptians hoped to invoke him to protect their deceased from jackals, and later, the natural decay that unprotected bodies endure.
Build Description:
*WARNING* This is a build for players to have fun with.
I start most games with Anubis the same way. I get Vampiric Shroud as my starter item because the (passive: Gain 10 health and mana when an enemy is killed) fits what I like for this build.
The first skills I try to max out right away are Plague of Locusts and Mummify. When you use Mummify to stun opponents and then hit them up close with Plague of Locusts you just eat their health.
*The first relic/ active I choose is Curse: it is perfect for Anubis to slow opponents because at best he is a medium range god*
I go and get XP camp and Mana camp right away. Once I have finished doing that, I go to either middle lane or go and help as support where I am needed.
Once I have enough gold to purchase my next item I go and buy Shoes of the Magi to help with movement speed and add magic power and penetration to the build.
The next item I choose to get is Warlock's Sash for the health and mana boost as well as the magic power increase.
*You could also choose Hide of the Urchin instead of Warlock's Sash for this slot*
*This build is for damage, damage, damage. We want opponents to run from us*
Now here is a tough choice I like to swap these out each match because they are such great items:
Bancroft's Talon: +100 magic power and 12% lifesteal with a (passive: Gain additional 1% magic power for each point of health missing).
Chronos' Pendant: +75 magic power +25 MP5 and 20% cooldown reduction.
*The only negative between the two is the Chronos' Pendant has no passive and gives you a little less. But that's up to you to decide which one. I like trying both out separately and sometimes both at the same time*
I like Gem of Isolation next because it adds magic power, health and mana. The passive also slows enemies when you hit them. Good luck trying to flee from Anubis when you are slowed and he has you stuck with Mummify and Grasping Hands.
*Sell Vampiric Shroud. At this point in the game it is near useless and there are much better items available*
With the money from the sale of Vampiric Shroud and gold gathering from playing purchase the Rod of Tahuti. Gives you a big boost to magic power and the passive gives a 25% boost as well. You also gain some MP5 in the process.
*The final relic/ active to choose is either Sanctuary or Sunder. I prefer Sanctuary as Anubis lacks any real good get away. So having the ability to not take any damage could save your life. Or you could run Sunder to tear down someone's defenses and tear them apart with your underworldly powers*
My final item I buy to cap of my build is Pythagorem's Piece. It adds more magic power, more cooldown reduction and adds a bonus 15% lifesteal. (Passive: All allies in 70 units gain magic power and lifesteal)
*All of the consumables are optional but I like running the Multi Potion and the Potion of Magical Might*
I like this build because it is a high damage dealing god coupled with lifesteal to create sustainability. I have done pretty well with this build for Anubis. Have fun!

Regarding the Hide of the Urchin topic- you place it in the "core" item section, but don't actually propose to use it in "final" build, only as a replacement option for the Warlock's Sash; might I ask which option is the default one then?
Another thing is the lack of penetration- with passive and Shoes of the Magi there's only 31 flat points of it, which is easily sufficient for the early game/fighting against most hunters, yet the damage done against warriors and guardians will fall off- severely, allowing them to jump at you anytime they want- unless the enemy team has no tanky characters at all of course (in which case the penetration would indeed be obsolete), that is however a quite rare scenario and thus I'd say including an Obsidian Shard or Spear of the Magus in the default build would be a good idea.
And last thing, I would suggest considering re-publishing this guide as the comment section no longer applies to the current version, which is a lot better in my opinion at least.
What do you think about it?
You are kidding right? Like COME ON. These people are trying to help you do better and improve your guide (you cannot level up your ult at 4, like COME ON)
1) Your ignorance is astounding to me. You are clearly ignoring the advice that people are giving you despite some clear reasoning and common sense.
2) These actives no longer EXIST. They are replaced by relics and these Actives have been removed. Now if you dont find the right one (and you looked everywhere) just ask someone or call a moderater, editor, or Veteran.
3) Doesnt matter if they worked for you, test other peoples suggestions for yourself instead of just kicking them to the curb.
4) Did you really expect to post a "guide" like this and expect everyone to praise you? Or ignore you? This is a site to IMPROVE your builds and guides, not just post yours and disregard everyone elses.
Please just listen to these people. They are trying to help you, but you are not helping yourself.
Its a character build for me and if you look I have taken some of the advice. But I wont tailor my playstyle or builds to what you or anyone else wants. You dont like it dont use it. Down vote, and go play with yourself.
Im pretty sure you can't pick your ult up on level 4...
Okay thank you I will adjust that.

I have went back and reviewed some guides and changed them. These work for me. I dont care if you dont like them or not. The actives and conumables are optional. Wait like a half hour and you will see a full description in here. Thanks. The build wont change. I use this just fine.

So you have success building season 2 actives in season 3, despite them not existing, and getting your ult at level 4, despite it being impossible?
Sure you do.
The whole point of this website is for people to discuss builds and whatnot with the vision of improving themselves, not posting terrible builds/guides and attacking everyone that's trying to help them.
Now if you're not going to adjust your attitude then it would be much appreciated if you could stop posting these awful guides.

Once again, not a good build. Also you have actives when they are no longer in the game.
You've done this 5 times, haven't learned from your mistakes, and are ignoring and getting aggressive over constructive criticism by users on this site who are trying to help you. Either you're completely serious and just new to the site, or you're a troll. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, so please look over the comments people make and take their ideas and helpful advise into account.
For now, I've downvoted your guide until you've put some serious work into this and I'll think about changing my mind if this and all of your guides are improved.
Thanks again Stuke but as I have said before this is my build I use. It works for me. Your playstyle and all of the die hard players differs. I go on as a casual player to have fun. This build works for me and has been very successful for me. You may not like it and are a bit of a try hard but we can leave it at that. Thanks for the advice. Downvote all you want.

Oh bloody hell, have you gone and made another one with only 5 items and an impossible skill order!?
(If you're just going to be hostile to everyone nobody is going to take you seriously btw...)
No there are more than five items I fixed it. The skill order works for me. Sorry you dont like it but I am not changing what I use in game. Thanks for the advice though
