You can run beads first if you wish but would probably not recommend unless your playing against a team where beads is important early game, blink is usually better. you also don't need mana pots or mixed pots either. if Baron is on your team get Barons brew. If you want to run manikins scepter you can but believe deaths toll is better for the extra health and power.

Jotunn's Vigor - IS NOT replaceable due to the stats it gives and will save your life. do not start building any other items until you have Jotunn's Vigor build
Breastplate of regrowth - is unbelievable and slept on and haven't seen anyone who plays Thanatos use this item so ill just give the details on why this item? Like Jotunn's Vigor this item is NOT replaceable due to the stats you get from it. 10% cdr, plus 20% movement speed on heal which you have all the time,You get 45 physical protections, and you gain 15 physical power as well. That speed makes you so fast as well with all the other items in this build.
Blood Forge- This item is just super good, the shield plus movement speed plus power is always good and since you have pen from your 2 you don't need a pen item yet cause you aren't fighting tanks
Heart seeker- This item is the only real pen item you need, plus the amount of damage you now deal to tanks becomes much higher
Note: if they have a team with lot of healing brawlers is recommended over bloodforge and blood forge can be your last item

Serrated Edge- has a lot of good stats like movement speed, life steal, pen, and power. solid pick for the end of the game.
Brawlers Beat Stick- This item is used against any teams with a lot of healing or life steal. recommended as the third item over blood forge if there team has 3 or more players with massive healing. this can also be the last item choice
Shadow drinker- This item is crazy when you want to flex or have a massive lead. buy this when you want them to f6. Nothing more scary than a Thanatos that's invisible after a kill in a team fight, plus the stats are crazy but usually not necessary in a normal game or a game you are losing in. only grab this item if you are confident it will work against the comp your against.

This is a quick build guide to one of the best jungle picks in the game, and properly played as well. This jungle build will probably change the meta for Thanatos if people use this build but I don't care i already got my fun with Thanatos.
If you want to know why Hydras Lament and trans are not on this build its because for the amount of gold and stats that they give they do not have as much value as the items I have use in my build. The movement speed bonuses add up and make you unstoppable basically giving you hastened katana as a free item when your in fights. running Hydras and Transcendence is underwhelming in my opinion. late game you will deal so much damage that the speed will be what saves you and will allow you you to chase which is what Thanatos is made to do.
Overall Thanatos is a super strong god with high kill potential and damage potential. many games you will see yourself with highest or closest to highest damage if you play correct and effectively. you have high sustain, mobility, and killing potential with most team fights going in your favor along with 1v1s as well.
If you wanted the reasoning on skills, your ult is strong, end game you want to use your ult to execute players high value targets and tanks, and you want to rely on your core kit for kills and use your ultimate on players that are being ganked or are being chased to help save your team early game. The power in maxing out your 1 gives you massive damage and is worth maxing out along with your 3 as soon as possible. your ultimate ability should be maxed out last for those reasons because executing is relatively easy to miss understand as a free kill vs the potential to win a team fight. Also back to mentioning saving your team from being ganked, with the items in your build you can zoom across the map to rotate much faster than most junglers can along with your ultimate ability being massive in those interactions.
