I'm usually the advocate for off meta builds but I'm going to have to acquiesce to Bran on this one on a number of points. For triple lifesteal the TL;DR is that you don't get any inherent value out of getting more than 2 lifesteal items. With Anubis you usually wanna grab Bancrofts Talon EARLY in my opinion (sorry Bran) to give yourself a solid power spike and some nice sustain off of the passive+lifesteal. You shouldn't grab Soul Gem early on any character simply because you get no inherent benefit from the passive until you have some actual power online. On top of that Soul Gem really isn't very good on Anubis as the only gods that really gain much value from it are gods that have heavy nukes or good poke. While Anubis is a nuker... he nukes via "You're going to stand in my dots and lose your health quickly" compared to say... Scylla that goes "I'm gonna make 90% of your health disappear"... The moral of this being it's easier to relic/dash out of Anubis' damage before it hits too hard making nuke items like Soul Gem and Soul Reaver fairly lacklustre on him.

Now Bran... In regards to Mummify, traditionally you wanna get the ball rolling on this earlier, you wanna max Grasping Hands and then level Mummify to rank 3 or 4 and then cycle into Plague of Locusts as the stun will give you more confirmable damage and Plague of Locusts gets such high scaling that as you level and gear you're still going to get big returns on damage from it.

On Spear of Desolation Bran is absolutely right, Spear of the Magus is golden on Anubis with the ticking damage and also gives that benefit to the other magical characters on your team, not to mention that protection reduction is more valuable then penetration overall.

Ahhh makes sense on mummify. Thanks for that explanation. I should make those skill adjustments on Daelinn's guide. Actually I need to offer a variety of builds. I do have a no stacking bancroft rush as one example, along with possibility of t1 bancroft for early sustain into other stuff first.

Good explanations overall.

Hi aura,

Please don't level your skills like that. Focus on one at a time to get the most out of it. You should ALWAYS level Death Gaze when it's available...so, 5, 9, 13, 17, 20. Don't delay that. Also, you would prioritize Grasping Hands if you needed to play safe and clear waves/poke from distance. You would probably want Plague of Locusts first IF you could get away with being much closer, as the clear power and damage is much higher. Typically you'll level Mummify last, though I can see some cases leveling it a bit earlier for the CD and stun duration.

Build order and item choices are not optimal.
  • You're getting 3 lifesteal items. I don't want to have to explain the reasons for that in depth, but if you read this, and are willing to listen, and don't know why you wouldn't build 3 lifesteal items, let me know and I will take the time to explain.

  • Bancroft's Talon is typically the preferred 1st lifesteal item though, and you will often follow that up with Typhon's Fang later...but not Soul Gem.

  • Book of Thoth is what you'd want either 1st or 2nd. 3rd is a bit on the late side, but I can see reasoning for getting it 3rd, if you prioritized Bancroft's Talon before it.

  • You have 1 pen item...just Spear of Desolation. That's the wrong spear. You want Spear of the Magus, due to the fact all of his damaging abilities apply ticking damage, making it very easy to stack the MUCH higher pen effect over Deso. SotM is a core item, and should almost never be absent from an Anubis build.

@gulf/dv8, we need to publicly execute this man. How dare he advocate something other than Deathbringer?
