I've found that switching Crusher and Asi to "bee" changed in some match ups. But basically just get Asi first if you really need the healing, otherwise you should be fine as long as you are buying pots and staying in your hives range.

Purification Beads:
They are always a necessity on AMC as he does not have an ability that gives him quick movement like a dash, but his hives auras, while inside give you a speed boost attuned to the abilities level.
Magical Shell: It is a great active to use on AMC as it gives amazing defense while still giving you the ability to do his insane damage.
Aegis Amulet: I personally do not recommend this item, for when used, you can not attack and after the immunity goes away you will still die as AMC has no movement.

Heartseeker is Ideal to do the most damage, While Magi's Cloak on the other hand is good for countering Crowd Control effects and provides decent protection.

Getting Honey second is just recommended for easy escapes, otherwise getting Hives second is good for movement if that is what you prefer. Still I would fully upgrade Hives to full second just to get the attack/movement speed.

The first build I think you should check out for a more in depth look in AMC as a god and not just a build would be MightyGarchomp's build. He has put a lot more into his build than I have and I believe it worth a look at.

Another build to check out would be UPLAR's build. It is dated and is from S7, but understanding how the meta is changing will make you a better overall player.

This is actually standard AMC skill leveling though as far as I know. You're maxing the 2 first for wave clear. Then as you're getting items you're looking to maximize your basic attack function so you want the AS boost from your 1. While Bees and Honey can give you good tick damage, you're typically not going to get the max damage listed under the ability unless the enemy stays in the honey the entire duration.
