Note: If it gets past the 30+ minute mark, trade Jotunn's for a Heartseeker for 40% pen and bonus ability damage.
Note: Do NOT take these items, unless you are in dire need of survivability, as life steal should sustain you in fights.
Note: Unless direct counter-building, Stick with the full build.
Surtr is a great off-role character for Jungle with his cleaves, movement speed, Hard CC, and single target damage contribute to his overall success. Here are a few things to note when playing him.
1)Cleaves and Auto Cancels: Surtr has a hit chain of 1x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.5x damage and swing time with a cleave on the 2nd and 3rd attacks. These are excellent clear and AOE damage for helping you clear camps and waves. The Build above abuses these cleaves for massive healing once you purchase Asi. The best way I have found to use Surtr's attack chain is as follows:
Blink in if needed--> Ability 3 --> Auto Attack --> Ability 1 --> 2 Auto Attacks --> Ability 2 --> Auto Attack --> Ultimate Ability --> reset Chain.
If you are about to be hit by a Hard CC or if they have an escape, use the ultimate to chase them down since you should be using blink to engage first.
2)Stacking Flames of Muspell: Stacking is a unique mechanic to Surtr as each death of an enemy that is currently being damaged with Flames of Muspell gives him 1 stack, stacking up to 200x. Each stack gives 3 bonus magical damage on hit, with the addition of a base of 30 instant magical damage on application. Because Surtr has up to a 10% passive CDR for being a warrior, and the build gives him the final 30%, you should start to use Flames of Muspell on camps that you are about to finish in order to obtain stacks overtime. Do be Aware that it will only apply to 1 target even with Surtr's cleave. You should aim to have about 50+ stacks at 30 minutes if you do it efficiently.
3)When to use your hard CC: Surtr's only hard CC is his 2nd ability, Giant's Grasp. One thing I see many Surtr players do incorrectly is initiate with Giant's Grasp or wait too long leaving the enemy room to escape. You should use this ability when an enemy channels for a while or if they use their only source of mobility/dash, as this will allow Surtr to catch up easily. Note that this ability is usually not used for Jungle clear as it is single target unless you have an imp or minion.
