The reason why I put Soul Reaver as Core item instead of Poly, is because right now SR is better on Morrigna for max power, because Polynomicon was nerfed indirectly through Rod of Tahuti, but you can still use Poly here and then, It's just not considered core anymore in my opinion, I rarely use Poly after Rod Of Tahuti Nerf, but feel free to do as you please
I prefer Shoes of Focus (Blue Shoes) now that they have been buffed and have same Magical Power as Shoes of magi 55 Power
Hello everyone, recently I made this Guide for The Morrigan and I did it so quickly that it just wasn't detailed at all, I'm completely overhauling this guide to make more chapters and useful tips and tricks. This might not be the best guide as I am not a Pro player or anything, I have Morrigan at Rank X Mastery with 8 Stars...This is just based on my experience and my Playstyle, not everyone will like this guide or find it helpful, I am totally fine with it.
One more thing my grammar I am just so sorry, I'm not a native English speaker and I'll give my best to try and make this as understandable as possible for you
Doomsayer is a nice Passive that The Morrigan Has, It is basically AoE DoT, Every 3rd hit of a Morrigan's Basic attack chain will explode dealing damage to all enemy nearby, enemies hit will receive 9% damage of target's Max HP over 3s, this passive proc's Polynomicon this is why it is a core item on Morrigan, sometimes you can get a few kills by it even if ur not present in teamfight but you applied Doomsayer to enemies within range who were really low on HP, Sometimes out of blue skies pops "Morrigan Killed X" And I'm like what?! Yeah I guess you can get kill unexpectedly |
This ability is Holy Grail in combination with Dark Omen being thrown FIRST, Let's start from Beginning, this Ability is Charge-up ability, which means you have to press 1 once to bring up the animation, then once again to activate it, It deals 300 Damage (+80% of your Magical Power) at max Rank, It's her strongest ability, and it works better if Dark Omen is applied first, but that won't always be the case, about that later. It's best to bring up this ability when you are wondering through Jungle, because summoning animation can be quite long and you wont have time to react enemy will disrupt you or dash, blink away...etc, I usually run around with this on, and when I see enemy or get ganked It's easier to just activate it. It also stuns enemies for 1s, My combo for this ability is Deadly Aspects stun enemy Basic attack, Dark Omen and Basic attack to proc Polynomicon and it's enough damage to kill squishy, one more thing since it stuns, you can disrupt Bellona's Bludgeon, Geb's Roll Out before he hits max speed and gains CC immunity, you can stop him when he starts animation, and Kuzenbo's Sumo Slam. |
It is a projectile ability, once it is applied to target, it deals 160 inital damage (+40% of your Magical power) and dooming target for 8s, target will have "Hour Glass" shape above they're head which means Dark Omen is active, and if target receives damage from You or any of your allies, it will deal 160 Bonus God Damage with 40% of your Magical Power, this is why it's more powerful to apply Dark Omen to target, and then use your 1 Deadly Aspect and Basic attack to proc Polynomicon and he/she should be dead, But it's really hard to pull of this combo and it's not reliable, since you DON'T stun enemy first, but more rewarding, anyways if you don't manage to damage him while Dark Omen is active, if any of your allies hit target with damaging abilties they will still receive 160 +40 Magical Damage, It is Morrigan's Main clearing ability, with Max CDR% Cooldown is really short you can spam it, I don't build her CDR% Tho. That's all |
Often regarded as Better Loki Decoy, This act as a real player character, to enemies and Allies it shows real Mana bar and HP Bar, People mistaken this for real Morrigan most of the time and it's one of her best abilities in kit and what makes her fun, you basically want to use this to initiate fight with squishies because I wouldn't call this the best escape when surrounded in teamfight because all kinds of ticks, dots and aoe will reveal your location and it's just not reliable escape in teamfights, 1v1 maybe, depends if enemy you're facing is not familiar with Morrigan Kit he will most likely confuse ur decoy for real you and waste abilities on it, It's pretty useful when Thanatos uses his ult to go for you, you just pop Confusion and he waste ult on it, while you get yourself time to escape, good against Rama's Ult, Thanatos' ult, Bastet's ult. I usually almost use this to initiate, Confusion -> Dark Omen -> Deadly Aspects -> Basic Attack, only sometimes I use this as Escape when I'm facing mentioned situations with Thanatos ult and so on |
This is Morrigan Ultimate, there is really nothing to it, simple game changer, You can transform into any enemy or ally gods present in current match, It will copy all their items and stats and you can use it for duration of 10s, Cooldowns are reduced while transformed, Keep in mind that their Rank of abilities won't copy, For example if Poseidon's Whirlpool has been maxed and your 3rd ability has only 2 ranks, it will not deal same damage, so you retain your own ability Ranks, your relics and you CAN'T use consumable during the transformation. So play carefully and know what god is needed, because sometimes you can transform into Scylla and get Penta-Kill or you can die earlier if transformed to god you don't know how to play or has less items and bad KDA than anyone else on their team. To make it simple, Use it carefully, you can get either Penta or get killed. |
So Shoes of the Magi are probably better in my opinion because of +10 Penetration, I almost always buy them instead of Shoes of Focus because I don't really build Morrigan CDR%, I get enough CDR$ from both Soul Gem and Spear of Desolation I love to be aggressive early game and this +10 Penetration is nice. |
Like everyone else, I find it mandatory to have Polynomicon included in every Morrigan Build, It just works so well with her Passive, with her in general. It gives +75 Magical Power, 12% Lifesteal and best of all +300 Mana, Morrigan is really Mana hungry early game and this helps a lot, I usually build it as 3rd item, It's really good item, but not really useful early game. So remember It is a MUST-HAVE item on Morrigan. It helps you kill enemies faster, especially squishies. |
This is also core item for Morrigan, They increased power on this item to +100 Magical Power, Sweet +15 Magical Penetration and 10CDR%, It's passive is also great, in late game when teamfights starts, every kill or assist substracts 1s from all ur abilities currently on cooldown. I almost always build Spear of Desolation on Morrigan along with Polynomicon and Obsidian Shard |
I say you should pick up this item, Obsidian Shard gives you +60 Magical Power, Passive is simple, your Magical Damage ignores 20% of Magical Protection, if target has over (Everyone has over 40+ Magical Protection mid/late game) 40 Magical Protection his effect scales up to ignore ven larger percentage of Magical Protection, It's good item if there's Tanky Players on enemy team like Warriors or more than 2 Tanks, even if there's no tanks, it's still a good item to pick up, It has been nerfed in S5, but I notice significant change in damage when I build Obsidian Shard with Rod of Tahuti |
Oh boy, finally Soul Gem has returned and even better in my Opinion. It has +65 Magical Power, +150 Health, +12% Lifesteal and 10% CDR. Passive; On successful hit of an ability you gain 1 stack, at 4 stacks your next ability that damages a god (Not a minion, jungler creep or anything) deals bonus damage equal to 40% of your Magical Power and ALSO will heal yourself and your allies for 40$ of Your Magical power and Consume 4 stacks, In conquest My starter is Mage's Blessing and Soul Gemit helps early sustain in your lane because of extra HP and Lifesteal let's you clear and poke bit longer without having to return to Base for HP potions or Healing in general if you play safe first 10 minutes. From there my next Items after Soul Gem are Shoes of the Magi, Spear of Desolation and Polynomicon[/ |
And my last, 6th item when I sell Mage's Blessing is Rod of Tahuti Now this item is Pure magical damage, It's the item that gives the most Magical Damage, even tho passive has been nerfed like I said, It still works great with Obsidian Shard You'll notice huge damage increase. Anyways, It gives you +150 Magical Power and +30 MP5 (Mana per 5 seconds) and Passive; Gain 25% Magical Power Against targets below 50% HP, This is really nice, in teamfights no one will ever have full HP, there's going to be a lot of 50% HP Enemies that you can finish off, People don't build Rod of Tahuti in S5 as far from what I've seen I can rarely see anyone includes it in build, but for me it works well with Obsidian Shard, So keep in mind, passive can be useful a lot and contribute a lot, but this item is Pure Damage. |
And conclusion, I think Morrigan can be serious threat if played right, I play her Like Magical Assassin, I strike from Shadows and running around Jungle and attempting ganks mid/late game stalking my preys. I like to build her pure damage, only sometimes I build protection if it's really needed, other than that I don't have a hard time with her, I burst down squishy enemies even tanks, before they can even react.

I'd combine the abilities and in depth abilities section (my preference).
The lore isn't necessary. If readers want to learn to play the morrigan, they likely don't care about her lore. If you want to keep the lore, add some extra information on her and put it in a spoiler (my opinion).
In your description for Dynasty Plate Helm, you say that it provides you with Magical Protection. I'd just like to point out that it gives Magical Power, and Physical Protection. Also, it costs 1700 Gold in total, not 1100 (1100 gold is the amount it takes to upgrade Imperial Helmet into a Dynasty Plate Helm).
As for my ideas, I saw your alternative items, and thought of some other items you might consider.
Pythagorem's Piece: This item will fortify not only you, but your teammates as well. It helps with your team's overall sustainability, and provides you with some benefits like cooldown reduction. I think this is an underrated item on traditional supports, and I could see it possibly working with The Morrigan as well.
Shogun's Kusari: This seems to satisfy several things in your checklist of what you are looking for in an item. Some protection, mana sustain, CDR, and CCR. On top of that, it boosts you and your teammates attack speed. For The Morrigan, this will also make her passive easier/quicker to apply as it will speed up her attack chain.
Again, this is an interesting way of playing her. Thanks for sharing!
