You're in the lane with an aggressive ADC. You're engaging with your 2, hitting every minion on the wave... getting up to lvl 2 quickly to get your Frost Breath online. At which point, you have a sure way to CC one or both enemy Gods in the duo lane to get your ADC that critical moment to finish off the enemy ADC who's playing juuuuuust a bit too comfortably forward.
You still need some HP, and the HP5 allows you to stay in lane and hang with your ADC, but you soon get to transition to MAGIC DMG items and really increase your effectiveness in the late game.
Your Gauntlet effectively gives you the HP boost you need to continue to tank. You're being aggressive though, so take your boots to Focus instead of Reinforced.
You're balanced, but favoring high HP and giving up some PROT for MAGIC PWR. You want to be taking damage... you want to be hitting your abilities. They won't be trying to take you out in Team Fights, and the lvl advantage you've built by harassing their ADC should give you the advantage in team fights.
Maybe you're going up against a lot of MAGIC attacks...

Maybe you're going up against a lot of healing...

Get your wall early as it's a tricky piece of tech; you can keep hurt Gods from getting away, put up a barrier to being chased by throwing it at your feet, keep a gank from the jungle locked away, etc.

We all know YMIR is a big ball of ice meant to take the damage, and CC the enemy Gods. But what about that ULTIMATE, huh? The enemy Gods are already trying to give their damage to everyone else... might as well take that opening to increase your magic damage and really CHUNK DOWN the opposition.
You have to carry some HEALTH and PROT to not be a worthless Guardian still... but when you have a solid team and can snowball, this build gives your YMIR real damage potential and builds on the new Season 8 starter "War Flag".
