In case of magical team comp or lane opponent, sub round shield for enchanted kusari.
Tap each threat level to view Ymir’s threats
Tap each synergy level to view Ymir’s synergies
This is a simple, attack speed driven build for maximizing Ymir’s attack buff from the frostbite passive.
Gem is for more CC if team is lacking.
Hastened ring is often a good sub if defenses are sufficient or if not as many tanks.
Doom orb is early grab if super far ahead like lvl 5 deicide
Soul reaver is for tank opponents as well as void.
Poly is for more power based builds (like hastened, doom orb, cyclopians)
Gauntlet is for if your other frontline doesn’t build it.
Mantle, spirit robe, pridwen, and breastplate are great subs if needing to go more support than warrior.
Stone of binding is amazing for Ymir’s in your face style.
Winged blade against elongated slowing opponents. Like…Ymir, Zeus, Poseidon, kukulkan, and others.
So i have played smite since year 3, and i have so many amazing memories of playing lifesteal Bellona, executioner Chaac, and doggie doom Erlang Shen! Auto attack warriors (warriors who focus majorly on their left click, right trigger attacks) are some of the most fun gods there are in smite in my opinion! And yes i know Chaac isn't typically in that conversation, but you never forget your first experimentation! 🤣
The basic premise is that you throw out some hard cc (Bellona Ult, Erlang's root, or Osiris's 3/2/1 combo) and then run at the slowed or stunned enemy while bashing them with relentless attacks. A lot of these characters have inherent boosts or buffs to their attacks in their kit as well (Bellona's three weapons, Erlang's old dog, Osiris's attack chain), so then when combined with attack speed increasing defense items and a Qin Sais, you are able to pump out DAMAGE while still being uber TANKY!
Enter the Guardian class. They play so differently. You are typically to focus more on crowd control and protecting team mates or healing instead of the hybrid attacky builds that work on most warriors. Sylvanus has an attack that is AOE which has led many to experiment... but that is never the best build for him compared with healer/bruiser or straight tank. Bake Kunira has the AOE auto attack gimmick, but that is also pretty much his only viable build... And then there's the fact that Qin Sais doesn't exist for Guardians to abuse... but YMIR... bro's attacks slap because of his passive!!
Ymir has long been one of my favorite gods because of all of the freezy cc and the ice aesthetic and his large, opposing form, and his amazing skins. He was my first main and is so fun to play with the wall. But as a guardian, he has to stay still a lot, and his abilities don't have the range that some other guardians have... and his passive is... auto attack based...WAIT! This could be the Basic Attack Tank Guardian that I have been waiting for!!! Heck yeah. Qin's missing definitely sucks, but the pieces are there, and Magical damage can play a slightly different role than Physical for Basic Attacks.
So we use Axe of Animosity obviously... a staple on the Basic Attack Warriors; it functions basically as a Qin Sais for quickly killing squishies. Then we have the standard attack speed defensive options (Berserker's Shield, Shogun's Kusari, and Talisman of Energy). And finally we need a substitute for Qin Sais and some general tankiness or mitigation to round out the build. Cyclopians ring is the most obvious choice because of the bonus damage effect and the 25% attack speed, but demonic grip or hastened could work as well as a substitute for Qin Sais. A fourth option for this build is the newly buffed Doom Orb! Doom Orb gives movement speed, Penetration, power and stacking buffs for being in a fight... all amazing for a damagy pop in Ymir's kit. And I prefer Prophetic Cloak or robe of the Magi for the general tank item, although Pridwen is good as well!
Here we get to the summary of information for this build! And I will list in terms of pros and cons to using this build.
Cons:
-It doesn't have the same tank shredding ability as a Qin Sais warrior build.
-The rings in general are sucky compared to physical basic attack weapons.
-Ymir's ult doesn't exactly gel with sticking to some Basic attack wise
Pros:
-Ymir's passive (which is almost always active if you land abilities) allows his basic attacks to do BIG DAMAGE (100% extra) from level 1. This means every ounce of attack speed boosts your dps wildly.
-the damage level and shred on squishy targets is better than physical builds with cyc ring and animosity
-Ymir has GREAT lockdown potential and forces a lot of beads or shell relics with his wall and stun
-Ymir's ult can be utilized for cc cleanse and avoidance and not disrupt your cc/basic attack chain too bad since it can be cancelled easily.
I think this is a build worth trying! But definitely play the role of warrior with this build!! Do not think you can just dive in and stay in permanently... dive in and attack, but if they dash or leap away and your blink is down, then live to fight another day!... don't ult under tower in mid game...you will do damage and still be a respectable, bulky support as well! I hope you enjoy!!

I just clicked on your build just to check it out, and I was surprised on the effort you put in explaining the intention here.
An Ymir that focuses more on basic attacks has always been something some people like to do, but I think some earlier seasons might potentially have allowed for better synergy for Ymir. For example, Shogun's Kusari used to have CDR...and while Ymir can have fun with his basics, he still needs those abilities available as often as possible.
It would be good to know for what mode(s) this is intended...if we look at your normal core build, the biggest thing I would point out is that you have very little health sustain. Mid game you have a bit of HP5 from Berserker's, but no lifesteal. When you have no mobility and need to get close to deal your main damage intent (basics), you're going to be taking some decent damage.
You've sort of addressed the lack of pen in your writeup, and I would say that's another weakness of a build focusing on that offensive direction. You do mention Demonic Grip but it's not in the offensive items list, and you do have Doom Orb (10% pen) and Void Doumaru (10% prot reduction) as options. Note that Animosity deals magical damage, so that damage is also subject to mitigations from protections, and enhanced by pen.
With the lack of pen, I would see about trying to fit that into the standard build. I would say with the freeze, the slow, and the wall, hopefully you could commit less to an item like Talisman and just focus on that. I would maybe not commit to a Gem of Iso (since it's only going to apply to 2 of his 3 standard abilities and the Iso ticks will be partially wasted when you freeze). I still like Poly as an option, which would also give him a bit of sustain (but probably not enough to make a huge difference).
While he wants the CDR, not sure Prophetic fits into that build style. I'm not sure what would be better, but just another thing to think about maybe.
