[center][h1]Welcome to my guide for Isis, Goddess of Magic[/h1] I am a casual player who primarily plays conquest. My preferred role in conquest is the solo lane, but I do play all the roles relatively evenly. [[Isis]] has been my favorite mid laner as of late because of her incredible lane clear and powerful abilities. Thus, this is a guide for [[Isis]] in the mid lane. This is my sixth smitefire guide, and I intend to update it, so feel free to comment things that should be added/edited. My only advice for working with this passive is to avoid dying as much as possible, prioritize your own life over a teammate's if need be. [rule] [icon=Wing Gust size=50][color=#FFEE5C][size=6]1 - Wing Gust[/size][/color] [rule] [[Wing Gust]] is what makes [[Isis]]' kit one of my favorites in Smite. It deals great damage in 4 bursts while providing her additional movement speed. This ability has an assortment of uses, from clearing lanes to pestering and killing enemies. The lane clear is most effective if you are in front of the enemy minions, hitting every one with each burst, however this position is also predictable and easily countered by enemy mid laners, so be careful. This ability is also your greatest way to move around, so while it is great for harassing and pursuing enemies, it can be disastrous if you are ganked while this ability is on cooldown. Avoid using this ability far away from your tower during the early game. [rule] [icon=Spirit Ball size=50][color=#FFEE5C][size=6]2 - Spirit Ball[/size][/color] [rule] [[Spirit Ball]] is not only [[Isis]]' best setup ability with the massive stun it provides, but also deals a great amount of damage, increasing with farther ranges. There are many ways to use this ability. You can use it as a setup for [[Dispel Magic]] or [[Wing Gust]] to deal impressive damage, use it from afar as a poke, use it to set up teammates for ganks or even use it as a stun to effectively escape enemies. [rule] [icon=Dispel Magic size=50][color=#FFEE5C][size=6]3 - Dispel Magic[/size][/color] [rule] [[Dispel Magic]] is a decent ability, providing a short silence, slow and magical protections reduction. I mostly find myself using this as area denial and punishing those who pursue me and my allies when they ignore it. It's also good when used in conjunction with [[Spirit Ball]] or to keep enemies within your [[Circle of Protection]] because of its slow and its preventing them from using an ability to escape. However, using [[Dispel Magic]] all the time will drain your mana and keep it on cooldown which hinders your escape potential, so be wary of using this ability too often. [rule] [icon=Circle of Protection size=50][color=#FFEE5C][size=6]4 - Circle of Protection[/size][/color] [rule] [[Circle of Protection]] is the most difficult part of [[Isis]]' kit to use appropriately. When fighting one-on-one, usually in lane, this ability is typically best dropped and activated instantly to help finish off an enemy that is low on health, dropped on your area to damage them and heal you, giving you the advantage, or dropped in front of/on an enemy so that you can cut off their path allowing you to escape. This can also be used to disincline enemy junglers from pursuing you when they gank, or heal you and damage them to snag you a quick kill. However, [[Circle of Protection]] is at its most useful in teamfights. Dropping this ability right where a group of enemies is grouped together fighting your team can help turn the tide of the entire fight. The longer you keep it there, the more it will charge up from enemies damaging your allies within it, but this time also allows enemies to move outside of its radius. However, a charged [[Circle of Protection]] will do massive damage to enemies and heal your allies immensely, easily turning the tide of a losing battle. Usually it is best to keep the ability activated longer if your team is losing, because enemies will be more likely to want to stay in the circle to try to finish off your allies, and be doing more damage which will help you heal your allies back all the more. If your team is winning, you should be prepared to activate this ability almost immediately, because enemies will likely be trying to retreat and at lower health all you really need to do is help your allies finish them off. If used correctly, [[Circle of Protection]] can easily yield double and triple kills at least once a game (you could even get a penta if you're THAT good). [/spoiler] [center]This section is built around the [color=#ff0080]starter items[/color] included in both builds above. These items are essential to getting a good start to your game, regardless of what you plan to accomplish as a teammate during the mid and late game. [/center] [spoiler=Items] [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Starter[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=Vampiric Shroud size=50] [[Vampiric Shroud]] combined with the first piece of [[Bancroft's Talon]] really gives you an edge during the first stages of the game. However, you should sell this item once you can use its return money to finish another item. [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Item 1[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=Bancroft's Talon size=50] I always prefer to begin my build with the first piece of [[Bancroft's Talon]]. Building this item first not only gives you a huge magical power buff over the other solo laner, but also great lifesteal which will allow you to stay in lane as long as you have mana making it a great starting item. However, be aware that you cannot retreat quite as quickly with this build, so be wary of junglers. Also, if you wish to stack, avoid finishing this item until you have completed building your stacking item. [color=#FFEE5C]Note[/color]: I do not buy an active when I first start out with either of these builds, because I typically rely on the stun from [[Spirit Ball]] and [[Wing Gust]] as an escape. If you feel this is not enough, it may be situationally appropriate to also buy [[sprint]] or to buy either [[Shoes of the Magi]] or [[Shoes of Focus]] first. Buying [[Tiny Trinket]] for lifesteal and then buying and finishing a [[boots]] related item before [[Bancroft's Talon]] is also a viable option for added mobility earlier on. [rule] [/spoiler] This section describes the items used in the [color=#ff0000]Battle Mage[/color] build, aside from general items, as well as some alternative items, in the order that you would buy them in game. This build is intended to give you a large amount of attack power and burst potential, as well as some health to have sustain. This build is used to essentially support your team by dealing massive amounts of magical damage to the enemy team. [spoiler=Items] [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Item 2[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=shoes of the magi size=50] [[Shoes of the Magi]] is my preferred choice for boots with this build. They provide needed movement speed, mana, and good magical power. This extra power helps boost your burst potential as a mage. [icon=Shoes of Focus size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Shoes of Focus]] can fit your playstyle better if you want to have more cdr rather than power. If you think that you will likely want to be using your abilities more often, either offensively or defensively, these may be a better choice. [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Item 3[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=warlock's sash size=50] [[Isis]] is a champion at building stacks. Her awesome waveclear can help you max out [[Warlock's Sash]] very early in the game, giving you a huge health and damage boost, as well as additional mana. However, do note that even with maximum farming, the earliest you can max out this item is 8.5 minutes after completion. [icon=Book of Thoth size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Book of Thoth]] gives you far more mana, and even more power than [[Warlock's Sash]]. However, you do not gain a health boost with this build whatsoever. Because this build does not normally have protection, I would advise avoiding this in most matches, unless you feel that the additional mana is needed, or that the additional magical power will allow you to dominate. [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Item 4[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=Obsidian Shard size=50] [[Obsidian Shard]] provides an incredible amount of penetration, with relatively little thought and cost. This item is the main source of penetration in this build. [icon=Spear of the Magus size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Spear of the Magus]] can be a good alternative to [[Obsidian Shard]] because it lowers your target's magical protection so that your teammates can attack them as well. However, normally when I build a magical power build, I'm the main source of magical damage on my team, so I typically prefer [[Obsidian Shard]]. [icon=Void Stone size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Void Stone]] works similarly to [[Spear of the Magus]] in that it lowers enemies' magical protections, to a lesser degree. However, [[Void Stone]] also provides magical protection to you, which can be very helpful in a mage dominated game. [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Item 5[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=Polynomicon size=50] [[Polynomicon]] is great because of its passive. With the immense magical power this build provides, if you intersperse your basic attacks with your abilities, you will find that you can deal massive amounts of damage, very quickly. [icon=Soul Reaver size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Soul Reaver]] is arguably better than [[Polynomicon]] when fighting against tanky teams because of its passive. It also provides better power than [[Polynomicon]], so if you don't like interlacing your basic attacks between your abilities, [[Soul Reaver]] may be a better choice for you. [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Item 6[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=Rod of Tahuti size=50] Was there ever any doubt? [[Rod of Tahuti]] provides a massive increase to your magical power, enabling you to eliminate enemies with ease. The only drawback is that this item is very expensive, thus I will always advise getting it last. [rule] [/spoiler] This section describes the items used in the [color=#00ff00]Support Mage[/color] build, aside from general items, as well as some alternative items, in the order that you would buy them in game. This build is intended to give you heavy cooldown-reduction, a huge health and mana pool, physical protections, decent damage and enemy magical protection reduction. This build is used to essentially support your team by pressuring enemies with your constant ability usage, lowering their protections and health and setting your team up to get kills with your stun, silence and ultimate while still remaining a difficult target to take out. [spoiler=Items] [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Item 2[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=Shoes of Focus size=50] [[Shoes of Focus]] is better for a support build because it gives you decent CDR which will allow you to spam your abilities to the benefit of your team much more often. It also provides you with much needed movement speed. [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Item 3[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=warlock's sash size=50] [[Isis]] is a champion at building stacks. Her awesome waveclear can help you max out [[Warlock's Sash]] very early in the game, giving you a huge health and damage boost, as well as additional mana. However, do note that even with maximum farming, the earliest you can max out this item is 8.5 minutes after completion. [icon=Book of Thoth size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Book of Thoth]] gives you far more mana, and even more power than [[Warlock's Sash]]. I would only advise this item on a support build if you believe that you will need the additional mana that this provides, but take into account that there are other items in this build that provide additional mana. [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Item 4[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=Breastplate of Valor size=50] [[Breastplate of Valor]] will max out your CDR and provide you with great physical protection and mana (Typically [[Isis]] is a bit more vulnerable to physical gods than magical gods, so usually this is your best option). Because this is the only item that provides both physical protection and CDR and also provides needed mana, I find it hard to replace. Nevertheless... [icon=Spirit Robe size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Spirit Robe]] is a great alternative for fighting magic heavy teams. It provides magical protection, health, some CDR and physical protection and a great passive that reduces incoming damage when hit by hard CC. [icon=Magi's Blessing size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Magi's Blessing]] can be also be a good alternative if fighting a CC heavy team. It provides decent magical and physical protection, lots of health and CC reduction on top of its passive. However, this item does not provide any CDR. This item is generally better if your team is behind or you're playing more defensively. [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Item 5[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=Spear of the Magus size=50] [[Spear of the Magus]] is essential because it is your only source of penetration, allowing you to do legitimate damage to enemy gods. [[Spear of the Magus]] is particularly great in a support build because it reduces the protections of enemy gods, allowing your teams' damaging magic users to tear through their defenses. [icon=Void Stone size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Void Stone]] can be a great alternative to [[Spear of the Magus]] because it's the only item in the main build that provides magical protection. On top of this, this item will also reduce the other teams' magical protections in much the same way as [[Spear of the Magus]], although usually to a lesser degree. If you find yourself having any trouble defending against enemy mages with only your [[Breastplate of Valor]], [[Void Stone]] is almost definitely the best option. [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Item 6[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=Ethereal Staff size=50] [[Ethereal Staff]] is great for finishing off this build with a massive amount of health, additional mana, and some good magical power (even more using the additional health from [[Warlock's Sash]]). [icon=Gem of Isolation size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Gem of Isolation]] can be a useful alternative if you don't find yourself taking as much damage, but desire to have more control over the enemy team. While providing good health, mana and magical power, it's [[Gem of Isolation]]'s passive that makes it shine. [[Isis]] has good enough AOE damage with [[Wing Gust]], [[Spirit Ball]] and [[Circle of Protection]] to easily hit most/all of the enemy team with your abilities, activating this item's passive. This slow may not seem like much, but in certain games it can allow your team to much more easily finish off escaping enemies, buying your team both time and kills. [rule] [/spoiler] This section is an overview of my preferred [color=#00ffff]actives[/color] on [[Isis]]. These items are largely situational, so it's really up to the player to determine what is appropriate for a given game. [spoiler=Items] [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Active 1[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=Greater Purification size=50] When fighting any teams with lots of hard CC, [[Purification Beads]] are a must have. They also reduce your cooldowns, allowing you to get your [[Wing Gust]] off of cooldown and use it as an escape if necessary. [icon=Greater Aegis size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Greater Aegis]] is a great item for countering gods with high amounts of burst damage (eg: [[Poseidon]], [[Freya]]), or irritating ultimates like [[Neith]]'s [[World Weaver]] or [[Nu Wa]]'s [[Fire Shards]]. [rule] [center][b][size=5][color=#FFEE5C]Active 2[/color][/size][/b][/center] [icon=Combat Blink size=50] [[Combat Blink]] is my preferred secondary active because it allows you to escape bad scenarios with ease (especially when paired with either [[Magi's Blessing]] or [[Greater Purification]] so not even hard CC can stop you). The only disadvantage of this active is its long cooldown. However, because it can allow you to escape impossibly treacherous situations, I find that this is a great late game buy. [icon=Greater Sprint size=50][color=#FFEE5C][b]ALTERNATIVE[/b][/color] [[Greater Spring]] is a great item for both escaping and pursuing, but is not a priority on [[Isis]]. I typically only buy this item if I have trouble escaping and need to do it more often than [[Combat Blink]]'s cooldown allows. In most scenarios however, [[Wing Gust]] is a good enough movement speed buff to suit your needs, so this is best bought as a late game item. [rule] [/spoiler] [center] [[Isis]] is a powerful mage with a versatile build that allows her to either build power or support.
