Why has Chronos not been played as much lately? I never see him anymore. He used to be so feared. I still love the guy, but I'm sorry to say that I'm one of the few. What happened?

Flavor of the month dictates that Zeus and Ao Kuang are the most popular mages due to recent buffs and tournament usage/bans. Chronos himself was a flavor of the month before those two were considered to be good.

Like all flavor of the month picks, expect to see their usage decline after either a set of nerfs or someone else does extremely well in tournaments with a different god.

Remember: just because someone isn't picked a lot doesn't mean they're not good anymore. Freya hasn't been seen too often after her flavor of the month phase half a year ago, but she is still a solid pick due to her ability to carry games pretty well.
Waiting on a good new MOBA, please.

Chronos used to be so good solo lane, too. Now solo is dominated by physical warriors. Can't chronos hold solo lane anymore?

If A > B > C > A
Say A is the flavor of the month. B falls out of favor because A is so good against it, and C becomes the new flavor of the month to counter A.

Now C is FotM. A falls out of favor completely, and B starts to rise.

Rinse and repeat for forever. You have now met the MOBA cycle.

Chronos used to be VERY strong against non-duelist, glass cannon mages like Agni, Poseidon, Isis, Anubis, etc. Now that Zeus players are on the rise, and Ao Kuang has been heavily buffed, he doesn't do as well. Squall's slow is ridiculous, and Zeus' Aegis Shield + Detonate is the hardest counter that exists to Chronos.

I consider myself THEE Chronos player. I play him solo and mid lane, in every game mode, and have a very positive record, so I know the dude in and out and what's what. Nothing really changed with him outside Acceleration scaling, so he wasn't directly nerfed. Chaac's Mobility and the new prevalence of Zeus players just sucks for Chronos. After Chaac is nerfed and Zeus stops being constantly picked (Or once Chronos players actually learn to play him in the solo lane against slow bruisers like I prefer! ;D), Chronos will be backin the game. He's simply unable to be killed by anyone but Chaac, Zeus, or Loki, as no one else has the mobility, cc, and high burst potential to kill a Chronos with a stun, speed increaser, and reset.

Also, Polynomicon still OP.

I would love to hear a bit more about this.

I won't go as in depth as I could, but in a nutshell, Chronos is made to kill melee, especially bruisers who are known for not being the best gap closers, nor for having insane damage output.

Most solo lane bruisers have a very light gap closer, and most no sticking power. Arguably the only one with a decent shot at Chronos is Thor, who jungles Tyr can't gap close well, Guan Yu has no sticking power, Hercules is gimmicky and avoidable, etc.

Chronos, meanwhile, has very good burst and steady dps output. Time Rift is a very nice chunk of damage, Stop Time either sets it up or prevents even the slightest aggression, and Accelerate gives both a speed boost and a removal of attack-->movement speed penalty, including the backpedal. This ensure no bruiser will ever reach Chronos.

As soon as he tosses in Polynomicon, he's unmoveable in lane. He has the inevitable blue buff for mana, yet Polynomicon gives lifesteal (plus quadrant I of Accelerate provides health regen if really necessary).

Past that, tossing in his Demonic Grip and maybe a Telkhine's Ring maximizes his Auto Attack damage capabilities, ensuring both a steady waveclear through auto attacks on par with the bruisers he faces, and a decent amount of auto attack harass when bruisers foolishly try to attack him.

Now apart from item builds and his basic ability counters, let's assume a bruiser gets a nice jump on him. Rewind completely negates this. As long as you don't get caught in a 100-0 Tyr juggle, no bruiser can both provide the CC needed to stop the rewind and the damage needed to kill you before you get it off. If you aren't scared of that, it's a guarantee that no jungler can touch you, as that combined with your sheer speed leaves you untouched.

In summary, mid laners can very easily land harass, but the solo laners you'll face will never touch you. Toss in some blue buff and poly/quadrant I sustain, and they will not stand a chance against the fastest, safest, best dueler in the game.

Basically, the simple explanation is that there are better people for the role he plays. Sure he's a huge threat if fed late game... but so is Zeus or He Bo, and they're also great early game.

Chronos just doesn't fit in very well with the current meta. He brings way less to the table than the current OP mages in mid lane, and he has to get fed to outproduce the bruiser he would be replacing in solo lane. That's hard to do when he has such bad kill potential early.

Of all the mages, he probably needs HoG the most, but a Chronos with HoG and Teleport is a dead one in team fights late game.

He's not hard to gank for anyone with a lot of CC or burst damage, even if his ult is up, and he's very camp-able.

I don't think he needs a buff though, give Agni, He Bo and Zeus the nerfs they desperately need and Chronos will start to pop up some more. At the moment he can work as a counter-pick, but he'll get mage play again once the group is remotely close to balanced.

Meh, I'm glad to see Chronos die. Such a pain to fight. You can get his health down, and then he can just ult to get it all back. Good riddance.
