In my opinion...good. Im tired of people looking at and playing for stats. Any stats that exist should be team oriented stats (# wards placed, assists, etc). A 'kill' doesn't mean a play is good or bad. It merely means they happened to do the last point of damage to an enemy.

And because some people care about their stats, you get 'teammates' who will watch an ally die just to ensure they get the last hit so their l33t score card can look better. Though ill admit, this isn't super common (at least not that ive seen).

So in my opinion, if the # of kills stat is ruined...I don't care ^_^

I agree with you for the most part. The only part I disagree on is that people really do work hard to make that card look good. So if it is ruined, well that's not super fair to them. It can even discourage people from getting the golden skin. I don't know. Seems demoralizing.

Edit: What if they made it so players over level 20 could only queue for Co-op to mentor a lower level player. After they play they get an enhanced favor for the first time they do it everyday. If the lower level player they got matched with found them useful. Yet no stats counted for that higher level player. The favor reward would be like 300. An incentive to try and help new players. Opinions?

But thats my point. If a person is focused on making their card look good, they are not being a team player. Working as a team is not about "he stole my kill", its about winning the game. When you get a person who is letting teammates die so he can time his ability to get a kill, it affects everyone elses game.

The proper way is to have 'team oriented stats' to proudly display in a team game. Game developers always seem to miss this. They continue to display individual stats and these stats can have a negative impact on a game.

"Wins" is a good number. The team wins. Losses could also be included.
Wards placed would be a good number, though could also be fudged to the determent of the team.
Assists is a good number...it shows that you are helping teammates. In fact, I often get praised for my sobek stats because I have way more assists than kills (which is what someone looks for in a support teammate). So by relating kills to assists on a tank, it is a team skill.

But if I see an Apollo with 2000 kills...that tells me nothing. He could have played a lot. he could be a troll who just runs around stealing kills. Instead...why not 'avg damage per minute'. Damage is way more team oriented than a kill and its very important for a hunter.

Guardians could show:
- Assists per kill radio
- Dmg taken per death
- Objectives secured per game (or total since you dont' go for objectives in early games)
- Avg wards placed (for the game mode you are in) per game (or per minute)

Hunters could show:
- Average Dmg per death
- Average Dmg per game
- Last Minion Hits per minute

Mages could show:
- Average Dmg per death
- Average Dmg per game
- Dmg per ability (a reference that shows how often you use one ability to hit multiple people...something mages should do often and well)

Could also have stats for assassins and bruisers. But the point being, the stats should be a badge of honor to say "I do my role well and I support my team". Not a badge that says, "im good at screwing over my team for personal gain"

I couldn't have said it better myself. Trying to learn the game, I know I am far from experienced or skilled enough to be very good at game strategy, but, for precisely the reason you outlined above it is very hard to get a better grasp on the teamwork aspect that is so important in real game success when the other players are simply farming kills.

I think that mentoring concept as well as the one that restricts upper level players from playing in lower level games for "standard" statistical reward. I actually mentioned that exact same thing, less the details in another post. Something I have seen in other games. One, Final Combat (not really a good game at all, but one thing they got rightI noticed) they have skill based server levels, meaning you can only access certain server types until you reach a certain level. Like beginners can only access the low level servers until they reach a certain level then they are no longer able to access the beginner servers and have to play games with players of a comparable play level as themselves. While skill and level, are, as many can attest, is no true judge in all cases of skill. but it is better than nothing and will reduce the likelyhood of pro players being teamed with newer players who might cost them the loss or game and rep, but also prevent new players from being hurt by being teamed against pros.

Add to that, the mentoring aspect, Team Fortress has it where you can request a coach and be brought together with someone who is willing and able to assist them in learning the game, rather than them having to ask around in games and coop for help. To give special statistical benefits to mentors for kills gained by the mentored one, or simply by a +rep style peer reward would be a great benefit to both the pros and the newer player alike. I know I have has a terrible time getting game help outside of videos and online guides and this would be such a godsend since this game does have a very steep learning curve for anyone coming from straight FPS/TPS gaming with little or no MMORPG experience.

I actually got this idea from a game called Vindictus. I know a lot of others have it, but this is one I saw done right. You could mentor a new player for these tokens that allowed you to get items that allowed you to upgrade your gear. So on here, extra favor, or some nice reward would really encourage veterans to help out some new players. Which in theory would make them better and have them enjoy the game more and hopefully not just quit.
