Sooo, my bro recently came back to Smite (ar. lvl 24) after he focused on DotA 2. He played smite before me, but i am more focused on Smite than him.

The problem is, he insisted that meditation is a must-buy active "for tha sustain" and he simply says "GG" when he forgot to buy meditation for Odin (even in arena)

My point is that meditation is a viable active, but only to be bought in certain circumstances where you need other actives to circumvent cc/damage from other gods.

He keeps insisting that it keeps him from going back to base and "for tha sustain", and even says that he won't play with me again if i don't think meditation is a must-buy.

Any ideas on how to convince him of the "not-so-necessariness" of meditation?

But.. Medi is based active.. It has electrolytes.

But seriously, just show him a guide. I'm sure their are many that explain it. But basically the main reason is cuase falls off hard mid-lategame, and now your short 1 active that could save your life, or actually help you finish a kill. Medi won't.

On most gods you don't use it anymore in the late game

Let's start in arena. Good players don't need meditation. They keep and eye on their mana and when they're low, it takes them 2 seconds to go back to base. Purification Beads and sprint are way better.

As for conquest, say you're up against an Anubis. You buy meditation and Greater Purificationinstead of Greater aegis and Greater Purification. You'll get killed every time he uses his combo on you.

Or you're vs an Ao Kuang or Poseidon. You need Greater Aegis. You also waste 300 gold on meditation which you can should spend on beads incase the jungler (say, Hun Batz) comes and ganks your lane.

Meditation is really only good for Assault, but that's about it. Though I do firmly believe that Meditation doesn't completely prevent a person from doing well, as Penta perfectly stated, that 300 gold could go to many other things that would greatly benefit you more than Meditation. Your friend just needs to learn to conserve his mana a little better and just pick up a few mana potions early game because mana will start getting better as time goes on. And there is absolutely no reason to get meditation in Arena. You can go back, regain mana, and be back on the field way too quick to justify the money spent on Meditation.
