Poll Question:

How would you like the new gods to be released(since they can't release them balanced, obviously)?
Underpowered?
Overpowered?

So when new gods are released it is pretty hard to release them balance. Hi-rez has definitely shown this. Definitely.

So the question is, would you rather they release the gods overpowered, or have them a little underpowered(at least what they think would be a little underpowered) and buff them a little at a time until they become balanced.

Here is why I ask. Obviously if they think Nemesis is balanced. They can't balance gods upon release very well and personally I hate having to play a super overpowered god nonstop for a week.
Also, if I like the gods play style, I don't like re adjusting to them after a nerf. It is so much harder than re adjusting to a god that gets a buff. Also, people wouldn't over use the hell out of a slightly underpowered god, then an overpowered god like Nemesis.

So what are your opinions?

If we release them underpowered first, the hype won't build up until a patch buffs them, nor will anyone play them if there's gods who can do better.

Besides, HiRez can't tell what needs buffing/nerfing if they're not played a lot.

Basically what Pizza said. At the same time, you can't hype a god, and then release it and it be terrible. It ruins the innovative, new feeling. When a new god is released and its trash, it ruins the faith that the game is heading in the right direction. Additionally, I think it's easier to nerf something than buff it, as nerfing a god only hurts him, buffing a god hurts every other god.

Nu Wa was balanced on release (not that she still isn't), Thanatos was ok on release (before they've made him an f1 car during his ulti) and maybe Zhong too, I've never found anything wrong with the healing on his ulti. So Hi-rez can release balanced gods...once in a while.

Regarding your question though, if gods are released underpowered/balanced already, most people will find them weak and will end up underplayed (Nu Wa), if they are released overpowered everybody will argue over playing them, but the god ends up being popular. It's better to have popular new gods and keep people playing by always bringing something new.

I'm really not going to answer. Hi-Rez does have a good track record of nerfs and buffs, and quite frankly nemesis was a bug for me, but I still kept playing. It's still a good game, even with nemesis, zeus, fenrir and geb geb roaming about.

I like how you put this. Very good way of saying it. However, one of the Hi-Rez people actually stated that releasing gods is detrimental to their financial situation, contrary to popular belief. So I'm not sure if it is really beneficial for them to be released like Nemesis.

It is better to release them overpowered.

Like people already said if they release a god that is underpowered or balanced then much fewer people will play as that god. It is also easier to balance the god that way. Let me explained: If god A is released and everybody starts saying OP then more people will play as the god, so people will find the god a bigger threat (since god A is almost always picked) and try to come up with ways to counter that god A (It could be an item, a god or just something simple like juking Gebs Roll Out). Now if they do manage to find a good way to counter god A then he/she/it will no longer be viewed as OP and suddenly seem balanced.

I might get some hate mail because of this, but I really wish Hi-Rez and other MOBA developers would wait maybe a week or two before they start balancing a new god/champion/hero. Mercury is a great example of why: When he was released I played him a lot and I found him quite balanced (both when playing as him and when I was playing against him), but a lot of people said that he was UP (I don't know why, possibly because they saw his passive and was like "I NEED TO BUILD ALL THE MOVEMENT SPEED!"). So Hi-rez buffed him and look at him now the best assassin in the game and the only assassin that is actually viable in Arena. If Hi-rez would have waited a maybe 2 weeks then I can guarantee you that the amount of people that call him UP would have gone down drastically. If it doesn’t then they were probably right and something was really unbalanced.

Can it be underpowered? So that when they buff them later on. It will be at the level where it's acceptable.

Not when they nerf them it would be very unnoticeable.

More people will play a god if its OP, more people playing as a god means its more likely for them to find out that god is indeed OP and Hi-rez can nerf the god or they might find a good counter to the god or even realize that the god is not OP and that they where wrong.

The real problem is that Hi-rez give new gods things that are weary difficult to balance without making it too powerful or useless. Like Gebs Stone Shield (since he is the only one with a shield and there are no direct way to counter it), Chang'e Aegis on a 10 seconded cooldown and Nemesis parry.
