The title, as it implies, regards which tanks are the better solo laners (Such as commonly Guan Yu and Odin), and which ones are better as support (As Athena and Ymir commonly are). What are your opinions? Which is the best in each category?

Guan Yu is not much of a tank. You could make that claim once upon a time I guess, but after his physical change, with increased damage and lower defenses I'd say calling him a tank is a complete misnomer by this point.

Odin, also, isn't that much of a tank in my opinion. He has a jump, an AOE attack speed boost and a slow outside his ult. That is very, very weak CC for a tank. Add the fact that he is physical rather than the traditional magical tank, and that he is much better when built bruiser and I'd say the entire tank tag isn't really a good description.

If we are to consider the four main good tanks, Athena, Bacchus, Sobek and Ymir, i'd say Athena and Sobek are the only ones that really work. Athena has decent clear, a dash and a fairly powerful combo for poking/dealing damage/setting up a gank. Sobek has a dash with a throw, an AOE knockback and a cone attack that self heals which he can use for clearing, not to mention a powerful ult that grants CC immunity, massive mana regen and massive damage in a large AOE. He can use it to clear and regain mana if he has to, making him less reliant on backing.

Bacchus, on the other hand, has an escape and some clear potential, but the clear is worse and he's pretty poor 1v1, having one ability that can't even be used directly at an enemy. Can set up ganks well though. Ymir is just bad. No escape, no gaploser (that is, no poking) mediocre clear and the worst setup for ganks in the bunch.

No surprises in my assessment in other words.

Athena i find to be pretty good solo great damage and great poke and clear potential! Also good at setting up ganks to feed ur jungler! But meditation is a must though!

Sobek I feel is better of supporting a hunter and getting them fed but he isnt a bad solo though!
