How can it be that I get paired up with people who have never played the game before? I'm lvl 12 right now.

People are telling me ingame this is the first time they play this game. They appear to be lvl 1, they have no idea what they're doing or that dying is bad.
What is happening? I thought at least the pairing system would work.

It's broke since like 3 days. It should be fixed in the next patch.

SmiteFire & Smite

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat.
