This game is fun and addictive, but I've run into the one real crippling aspect of it... the people. God are the people horrible. I cant go four matches without running into "that guy". The guy who picks someone right at the beginning of the game and just constantly harasses them endlessly. I assume you all have run into someone like this before? It seems inescapable to me.
At first I figure someone was just overly competitive when they start insulting another player or me.
But its when they start at the very beginning of a match that gives away that they aren't complaining because they need to, they're doing it because they want to. It guaranteed to lose you a game when two players are insulting eachother back and forth, so there is no benefit to it.
My goodwill is **** right now because I don't put up with it. If the game begins with a player questioning another about their choices, I get ready to leave. As soon as I see the bickering start: "An ally has left the game." I don't like doing it but Im not going to play fifteen to thirty minutes of some attention ***** calling someone (me half the time) a ***.

Why is it so common? Does good will effect who you are teamed with? Is that why the people just got worse as I played it?
Im now turning chat off to my own disadvantage to get my good will back up. Though that doesn't eliminate the issue of those two players pausing their gameplay to type insults to eachother.

It comes with the territory of MOBAs, the meta******ry. It's entirely why I don't play conquest at all and stick to joust. I play MOBAs like Smite to have fun, not play competitively as if I'm in some professional league. However, people always think otherwise and thus expect you to play the game a certain way.

Its very true that 2 out of 10 times these things always happen in a game, if not with u then amongst two of the team mates...truth is u cant help it..even the gods cant..i wld share my latest incident..

It was an arena game and i was sobek, as the match started i told our merc to have stun combos with me, our anubis got 4-5 kills with my tosses..all enemy players purchased magi's blessing as their second item tat rendered my skill ineffective, our anubis got pissed with our thor n me and seriously abused the whole game..we won the game i scored 4/3 still in post match lobby he and our isis were abusin me ' dont know why', but the good thing is i dont care, play the game to the best i can even if i m bad tat game and move on to the next game..simple..game is bigger than these goodfellas!

Yea, goodwill matters. I've had low goodwill before and you get matched up with others that have a low goodwill - the kind of person that leaves a game for whatever reason. Usually disregarding his time and others.

That said, you'll run into these kind of people with 100% goodwill too, hell, if this game was about hugging kittens you would still have people being toxic, ignorant, narcissistic and worse.

The only you can do is to raise yourself above that, learn appreciating the people that aren't like that and ignore the ones that are. That way, you reward nice people and don't make it worse by becoming ****ty yourself.

Also - shameless promotion - join a clan. Having a certain kind of people around you benefits both your social feelings toward the game as the actual gameplay itself. Smitefire's clan has an average of 5-9 members online at most times (out of 18ish per 17-1) and everyone is really cool, social and stronk.
That's just my 2 cents.

Oy! Give me some privacy.

well for 1, you are joining a match and leaving, therefor wasting 4 other peoples time, no matter the reason, and you are obviously doing it quite often.

2 its quite common for bad mouthing pre-game, because being rational and giving advice just gets you "stfu noob" in return, so instead of telling the support to not take the blue buff, to not buy sprint etc...they just bad mouth them.

like i had a match start last night where our mid pos bought meditation tier 3 and sprint at the start of the match...i said gg, what ended up happening? that pos went 1-9 in 10mins.

its not hard for a vet moba player to recognize when he gets matched with a bad player on his team, obv he is going to be upset when he finds out at the start of the match, that he already lost and is forced to stay in the match through the torture.

The problem is people badmouth you before you are even given a chance. On one joust match, I was playing Loki and a teammate who went Ra absolutely insulted me throughout the match for beginning with watcher's gift and a girdle of might 1. What happened at the end? I scored a high KDR while Ra and his partymember went negative, and we won the match.

Yes that is what I am talking about. I was playing Merc the other day and locked in. A Thanatos showed up and claimed jungle. I pointed out that it would be better for me to jungle since Im merc. Not willing to give up what I assume was his favorite god, he *****ed at me for "autolocking like a ****** noob" and then locked in thanatos anyway. I went the whole game laning because he refused to lane. He kept an eye on my items and complained about every last thing I bought.
I went for damage before getting my shoes so he first started complaining that I didn't have shoes. I treid to ignore him and kept with my predetermined buying strategy. Finally had shoes..."what kindof of merc doesn't have golden bow omg what a ****ing noob we are going to lose and its all your fault." Only two items in and this is what Im dealing with. One other player started to join him (both have died with no kills) while another player tries to play the high ground and tell me to stfu when I try to defend myself because according to hom it both our fault that the guy is an idiot.

I hate to do but **** 'em. I left. My kill death ratio could speak for my ability but some people just want to complain. I witnessed the same thing happen to an Anubis on my team just yesterday. I had two players gang up on him for no reason I could determine. Its game breaking when people are this hard to deal with. Ive never seen such game behavior and I used to play Halo and COD. That's saying something. Man games like this really breed terrible people.

Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea.

Surprised you said you haven't seen this in other games because I've seen this behavior in nearly every multiplayer game.

The best thing to do with this is to just block them and keep going. Or, do what I do and ignore them.

I don't even see this much attitude from players outside of MOBAs. TF2, everyone is laughing with the occasional competitve player who is eventually laughed out of the game. Planetside 2, everyone's too busy trying to capture the area to complain. Hell, the [insert generic shooter here] games like CoD aren't this bad.

Then you look at MOBAs, and everyone who plays it behaves like they're being paid to play this game in a professional and competitive manner, even if you're not playing league matches.

I don't know, I've seen some crazy *** people on CoD, though, I suppose it might be less frequent than in MOBA games. Lol, I did love the community in PS2 when in big fights, though. Whenever people would talk **** about the other factions, their own teammates would tell them to shut up. Was pretty fun, lol.

But yeah, MOBAs definitely get that way. People get so competitive over them. It's honestly one reason I enjoy playing Assault a lot. Most people don't get too butt hurt over it.
