Hello,

I was curious about what you all thought on this topic.

I feel like the game in general mainly rewards the:

"BOOM FLIP POW TRIPLE KILL PERFECTLY TIMED ULT DIECIDE PEW PEW PEW"

But not the tanks and the supports. I mean, most people don't value that, because it isn't a stat. You can say assists are a stat, but most people don't look at those.

This also applies to actual in game mechanics. You don't get any extra gold for healing allies (as far as I am aware), or soaking up tons of damage as a tank. Does anyone else get this feeling?
Thanks to Ferrum for making the sig pic! He's beast af people.

As a hard core tank player I def get that. I absorbed 2-3 neith hits to save a person the other day. Put myself between an enemy and an ally. Etc. These things aren't awarded and are rarely noticed.

Ive always hated stats in team games for this very reason. You just can't accurately represent someones contribution with stats. All they tend to do is cause people to cry about steal killing and cause people to neglect the team and go for higher stats (a la the suiciders in assault).

While it don't happen much anymore now that I hit level 30, I always got a laugh when someone told me I sucked as ymir because I had just a few kills and they had 10 -_-

I think Supports/Tanks are in a decent place in terms of game-balance, but in terms of player-awareness they are extremely undervalued. I play Aphrodite regularly, and I typically sacrifice myself(In terms of Kills v Assists) to ensure another player becomes more fed. A few games ago I helped a Loki go 22/2/6 (I was around 2/4/24ish). I made sure neither of us died where possible, and if it became apparent that one of us was to die, I made sure it was me rather than him so he could continue ganking and doing more for the team than I could if I lived.

I think that's the life of a support/tank; sacrifice yourself in multiple ways to exponentially improve one or more other player(s) on your team(this includes getting less gold/exp than other people). What I do wish was that people would recognize how much Supports/Tanks do for the team. In my example, the Loki was very appreciative and made sure the team was aware of my contribution. Feels good to see some recognition every once in a while ^.^.

As to whether or not a Support/Tank adds more or less to the team than any other god... YES. I can't count the number of clutch-saves I've pulled off, often resulting in double or triple kills for my team with no deaths, whereas if I was an Assasin or Carry I'm sure that we would have gotten the double/triple kill, but also incurred a death or two.

Definitely not rewarded properly . I don't usually play tank ( actually played 2 matches as Ymir today), just support (Chang'e) .

I remember not long ago I was halfway through a match and I had 0/0/16-ish and some smart guy starts to show off how he got 6 kills and I got none and how I am useless .SO yes , people don't usually appreciate the assists as being important in a match, , but there are people who know that a tank or a support can REALLY make the difference (talking about Arena here) .

This is why I play support in the first place , I really feel that I can somehow "carry" the team by getting in and healing my team mates , allowing them to stay longer in the battle or some to escape or deliver the killing blow before the enemy does .

they're definitely not reflected accurately in the stats, I think.

that being said, I think that players are a bit more aware of the support they get, at least in my experience.

I play chang'e a lot in arena, and my second favorite pastime is making sure my teammates are able to escape back to base. whether it's a heal that lets them survive that world weave from neith, using my ult to stun their pursuers, or just body blocking with my 2, I easily prevent more deaths on my side than I cause on the enemy in the average match.

I usually get a generic "Thanks!" for my efforts, but one time a Thor I rescued actually type "epic save, chang'e! :D". That felt good.

I normally play as Isis or Freya (who isn't listed as a 'support' but can kind of be played as one), and what I've noticed is as I climb up in levels, more people will thank me for using Freya's "knock up" or Isis "stun ball" to save them, than lower levels where i think smurfs go to be tough guys.

I don't think they're very well rewarded. I have the god pack, and only 5 gods I currently own have a negative k/d ratio (not to flex my muscles, there's a point!). One is agni - only 2 assaults with him, mostly played the stunning type support mage >.>, one is aphrodite - a pure support, and 3 are tanks - who don't get kills, but help get them.

This is the only reason the K/D Ratio is < 1.0 on these gods. One is SUPPOSED to have a positive, the other 4 make sense to not, yet it still looks poor. Any god that is labeled as a support or tank should automatically have K/D/A shown instead of K/D, as it more accurately reflects their usefulness in their role.

As for the actual in game mechanics, you have never gotten in-game gold for being a support or tank. Let's take the stereotypical response, league of legends. You get gold for assists - about half gold. This rewards the support. You get gold from minion kills - this rewards the solo lane tank. However, each has a gold deficit, as one does not get kills/assists in lane, and one does not get farm. This is where the support 'philosopher's stone' AKA Midas Boots/Watcher's Gift comes into play. This gives them a fair gold number and still makes them useful. Supports and Tanks are at least viable no matter what items they have - they aren't mitigated by defense, don't have their CC/Initiation/Bonus Effects reduced or removed, etc. The Aphrodite can ALWAYS shield. The Ymir can ALWAYS stun. He only thing items change on them is how much healing they do, or how much damage they can take, etc. As such, the reward isn't *necessary* in game, if just slightly adjusted.

In players eyes, though, supports and tanks have always flown under the radar. Everyone knows the assassin, the carry, the burst mage. Not many know the supports or tanks. It's just psychology, has nothing to do with the game, sadly.
