Curious as to what others thoughts are on ranked 1v1 Joust. I recently started trying it just to see how it is, played a few gods that I like that are decent jousters ( Loki, Chang'e, Hercules, yet to try Chronos) and played enough matches to get put in gold 3 (although it's hard to say whether this is fitting based on only 10 matches, for better or worse).

However, what most of the matches came down to wasn't player skill on either side, but the matchups themselves. Some matchups like Hercules vs. Vulcan were easily in my favor while others like Loki vs Hel left me in a bad place. There was only one matchups where I managed to overcome my opponent despite a bad lane matchup and there were very few matches where there were even fights (only Chang'e vs Chronos and Loki vs Loki).

So all in all, being that there are so few gods that really excel in 1v1 joust, do you guys think it should be ranked? The whole business strikes me as rather silly and poorly planned, I'd much rather just have casual 1v1 joust where your matchups would hopefully not be between the same 10 gods each time.

NShadow on Team Eager's website has made a tier list for ranked Joust similar to DMBrandon's competitive Conquest tier list. The list is here. As you can see, there are some gods (eg Hel and Chronos) that are patently overpowered, and some that are totally impossible to win with.

Personally, I don't consider 1v1 Joust a ranked game mode even with its status as such. HiRez does not base any balance changes on Joust - so no, Hel will not be getting a nerf any time soon - and the rating in Joust is not important compared to Conquest. It's a fun game mode, and I enjoy it whenever I want to try a duel in between 5v5s, but I think it should be demoted back to a Casual game mode. It's similar to old ranked Arena.

A MOBA isn't a FPS. Keep team games team games. You're perfectly correct that matchups > skill, and that's simply because MOBAs aren't designed for 1v1s.

Seriously, I can't express how much Subzero's point jives with me.

It's not my point. It's just a truthful expression of the obvious.

Interesting, I never would have put Hades so high on the list, but yeah I agree with your points. 1v1s should really be just for the heck of it so that you can enjoy yourself, me and my friend have had great times just doing 1v1s and choosing each other's gods to subject each other to those that we hate... (damn you He Bo!).

Still, now I wonder who voted yes... was it the ultimate troll, MadDanny? Or someone with a legit opinion..?

Joust ranked is balanced said no one ever! I used to joust quite a bit and still do occasionally but there's a point where you cannot outplay or outbuild a lategame chronos.

There are definitely a lot of fun picks that you can win with due to skill and others not knowing how to play against like Thor, janus, Athena, sobek, bastet, osiris, Poseidon, hun batz, serqet arachne, nem, etc. Until a certain point, its more of skill, game sense, and build but at the highest level and occasionally with occasional ranked jousts, you just can't win against some matchups.

It's a dumb gamemode coming from a diamond jouster lol. Joust map is going to be reworked soon though which might shift the balance I'd the gamemode.

I like 1v1 as something to help with being in the solo lane as a form of practice, for conquest league, but I can see how it can be unbalanced a majority of the time. Until then it's a legitimate league mode and it helped me get the Solid Hornet Skin for AMC.

Greenevers, I don't it's about the map. Actually, the jungle makes the game more interesting, since it adds some variety to the waves. Reworking the map or even just the lane won't increase the viability of certain characters, and it won't make degenerate strategies like Hel, Chronos, or hunters less viable. Until HiRez starts basing balance on Joust (which will never happen), it will still be unbalanced. It's not like the balance team is going to nerf Hel, a god who is not currently viable in competitive conquest, to make her more fair in Joust, and there are no changes to the map that can make Hel bad. HiRez believes that 3 bans per side will get rid of the most overpowered characters, but it makes matchups less interesting, since you always have to ban Chronos, Hel, etc, if you want to survive. Like I said, the whole game mode needs to be brought down a notch, unless they want to ban certain gods from Joust altogether like stacking items in Assault.

That said, I have always enjoyed custom Jousts with friends, where we can just play our favorite gods and see who is the better. It just shouldn't be connected to league placement or elo. Joust isn't a competitive game mode, and HiRez needs to acknowledge that.
