Charizard has always been one of those iconic Pokemon going all the way back to the first generation, so a lot of the attachment to him has to do with nostalgia reasons. Odds are if Pikachu wasn't your favorite, it was because you were into something more bad-***, and Charaizard fit that bill.

So now I am going to share some Pokemon Nostalgia!

I remember how difficult it was to overcome Brock, Misty, and every Hiker I met when I started out with Charmander. The only way to really survive that early stage of the game was to grind several levels or be patient and abuse items. If I were lucky, you burned someone with Ember, and could just let the burn finish off a tough foe. Then he evolved into Charmeleon and everything just got better. I watched as he just started wrecking everyone with Rage, building up power from his opponents attempts to harm him. Once he got Slash, he was always landing insane damage with criticals!

The real satisfaction came when he finally evolved into Charizard. That awesome fire dragon on the box of the Red Version, and the main reason I went with the Red Version over the Blue one. And damn was he worthy of being on that cover. I thought Charmeleon was crazy strong, but he didn't even compare to how much stronger he became after evolving into Charizard. Nothing could withstand his sharp claws, his searing flames, or his blazing speed. Gary's Blastoise had nothing on him, not even a super-effective Water Gun (oh dem gen 1 movepools) could scare this mighty dragon. Having that Charizard really made me feel like an invincible trainer back then.

Sure, people can say whatever bad things they want about Charizard, like how he sucks in the competitive scene due to abundant weaknesses, and has continually gotten worse with every generation, or how Moltres is a statistically superior Pokemon. Nothing can deny the nostalgia however, and nothing can deny what he was to the many kids who grew up taming that fire dragon.

Waiting on a good new MOBA, please.

Totally agree Sunfall, I had a similar experience. :) I think I was less strategic about it though, and just thought Charmander / Charizard was the coolest!

I really like Bulbasaur now though... I think because I love dinosaurs / plants. They're all really good though to be honest. :)

Guys, Magikarp ftw. After seeing my friends lvl 100 magikarp, I was like, you could forn the most ultimate magikarp withn baton pass from agility from Jolteon and belly drum from smeargle then flail. The days.

But I do have the Charizard Plushie, still like him

My level 100 charizard will kick a level 2 mew twos *** anyday.
