While I was wrong about it being in the Atlantic, Bikini Atoll is not part of the US. It's part of the Republic of the Marshall Islands

For all intents and purposes, the United States owns the Marshall Islands. It's even marked on maps and globes as being one of our territories. It was also where we tested some of our nuclear weapons (something that has led to the belief that the reason that the characters from SpongeBob are humanoid is because the radiation mutated them, but that's crazy talk). Regardless, in SpongeBob lore (I can't believe I just said that) Bikini Bottom is treated as a 51st state, complete with its own license plates.

Holy **** things just escalated. Also, thanks for clearing that out, I never actually got to a page that explained the thing the way I wanted. Looks like they're getting the Puerto Rico treatment. Btw, are they officially recognized as a country by the UN?
