If you are reading this, you have chosen to play Agni, the Hindu God of fire. He is a mage ranged character. In this build, I will show you how to make an effective arena or domination build where you can, like me, easily rack up the kills.
Note: This build may or may not work in Conquest.
You will want to start off with the boots of the magi, as they are one of the few items that boost speed and mana. As you will be using lots of mana, the potions are essential. Activate them around half mana, and you should get full benefits.
Then, buy the talon. The talon allows for more survivability, as it has a little bit of LS on it, and it adds a straight 100 MP to your hits. Not to mention it's cheap-ish price.
After this, buy the gem. It will allow you to land your combo's much more easily, and it provides a benefit to team-fights and running away. It also has HP and Mana bonuses, so it will help keep you alive.
Next comes the good old Rod. This will multiply your MP and add some MPS, and your effectiveness will begin to spike around here.
Last in my build, you should purchase the Obsidian shard. It adds a very helpful quantity of MP, and more importantly, allows for Penetration of enemy MR. This will make your attacks 33% more effective.
By this time, the game should be near it's end, and the ticket count should be nearing 75ish. Here you can do whatever you feel like doing. There is one more item slot, and it will be your choice as to what to buy. I usually buy a lifesteal item or more MP. It really depends on your choice. On this note, after a little bit of experimentation, the Polynomicon tends to become very useful, as you will be using basic attacks in conjunction with abilities to get Combustion.
Abilities: Buy Sprint to run away or Aegis or Beads for Ares' ultimate.
When upgrading skills, you should already be able to upgrade one of each three. If not, then this build is for DOMINATION and ARENA players, where the levels start at THREE. So hit F1, F2, and F3 to upgrade each ability once.
You will want to try and always upgrade your Flame Wave, since it is a very good damager, hitting 600's end game, and scaling up to it from the start.
Then, you'd want to upgrade the Path of Flames, as it is a nice DoT for the sand demons or for other players, and can deter them from crossing it, wary of damage. It also sets off the Noxious Fumes.
The Noxious Fumes will be used primarily for stunning, and the duration does not change. So that has last priority. It also can act as a weak DoT, but also acts as a deterrent to those moving, as they would not want to be potentially stunned, and can be a life-saver or gank-maker.
The ultimate, Rain Fire, will be used primarily for heavy damaging and killing those on the run. Watch for the delay between cast and impact, and learn to lead your target and blindshot around corners, as it can be the difference between the enemy getting away and you getting another couple hundred gold. XD
Last but definitely not least, the passive, Combustion. After four hits with the basic attack, the next cast of Flame Wave or Rain Fire deals 10% of your MP for 3 sec every .5 sec. This is 60% of your MP over 3 seconds. This may not seem like much, but it really is more than you think. Say, for example, at end-game, you have 600 MP. Take 60 for every 100, and that is 360 damage. And it has no cooldown or mana cost, just every fourth hit get you another. Use it!
Now here is how you're going to want to play Agni. He is NOT an initiator of team fights, and has decent poking abilities. Yes, you can toss a meteor at the enemy god, but that meteor may be used elsewhere. This is subjective, sometimes its a good idea, sometimes not. You will want to stay back inside your sand demon (dom) or next to your allies (arena) and use abilities, namely the flame wave, to kill minions and the fumes/dash combo to stun enemies.
Before level 5, just hit the enemy minions with your basic attack or flame wave when you build a combustion.
After you get meteors...
Keep moving, and toss those little fireballs out of your hand to build up a combustion.
Then, when an enemy over-extends or your allies push, drop a noxious fumes on the guy who seems to be the squishiest, and then charge with Path of Flames. This is more effective than the use of fumes and then flame wave, as there is about a 1.2 delay between the fumes and wave, and any smart enemy will try to book it to escape. The fumes/dash combo is nearly instant, and places you in position to actually hit with the wave.
IF: enemy is stunned
Use Flame Wave and start dropping meteors. LEAD THE ENEMY TO HIT, or your meteors will be wasted. You can drop them on yourself if the enemy is a melee and they try to attack you, watch as they run into your "pop rocks". XD
IF: enemy is NOT stunned and at low/medium health
Attack as above, but don't fire all three meteors. They are finishers and pokers, not damagers, at least until max level. The combustion should also inflict a nice DoT, and recharging it is a piece of cake.
IF: enemy not stunned and at high health
Turn around and run.
Try to stun them so that they are in a bad place, like against a wall or inside a demon's range, as that will make it easier for you. I have killed a Loki by finding him with the Fumes (the damage pops up of his "invisible" form and shows you where he is) and stunned him there. He was at low health, so a single Flame Wave finished him.
Also, continuously throw basic fireballs. This will ensure that you have a charge of combustion built up, and hitting enemy Gods still counts. Although you may only do 40 or so damage per hit, it builds up. Agni is all about chipping away at the HP until they are vulnerable (between 3/8 and 5/8 hp or so), then killing them so quick they rage-quit.
After every engagement, back up a little and let your cooldowns cool down. If you can't use powers, you WILL die or at least be useless.
Use the Flame Wave as primary attack, and the odd meteor when needed, as it recharges in 20 seconds per meteor. The noxious fumes and path of flames should be exclusively used together to attack or to run away. The Path can save you. Loki tried to assassinate me, and he got me to 30% hp. I slapped a fumes straight down and then dashed towards spawn. He got stunned, I was safe. Otherwise, I'd have been dead.
You don't have to drop a noxious fumes first. You can use Path of Flames to put some fire on the ground, and use that fire DoT to set the fumes alight. The fumes light when the damage ticks, not just in the path; there may be a delay. Use path, turn around, and pop the fumes. They still detonate and stun. You can also throw a meteor first, and put fumes under, but try not to accidentally use 2 meteors. It's hard to do, with a window of .5 seconds. The combo is: 4-click-right click-1-click-4-click-click. That could kill.
You can even lure enemies, by just kind of moving closer and closer and baiting them, then pulling back, dropping fumes, wave, and meteors. This is best done at around half health, but watch out for those who can actually kill you.
Agni plays very good against squishies and melee fighters. You can just drop meteors on yourself, and they will have to either give you some breathing room or take serious, sometimes fatal, damage.
Your worst enemies will be Loki, though with a combustion DoT, you can track his invisibility by the damage ticks, a good Freya, as she can deal serious ranged and melee damage and her ult will finish you, and Artemis, with her boar and rapid fire. Keep and eye on these Gods, Loki more-so than any others. Just remember, when all else fails, you can try to get an afterlife by tossing fumes then meteors on yourself. It may even save you, you never know.
Try to reserve your Path of Flames for the stun combo or for a really nice DoT. It can clear minions well, and is a nice escape move. Try not to waste it, it can be used very nicely. Use it wisely, as it is VERY versatile, but has a relatively long cooldown.
ALWAYS KEEP A COMBUSTION READY. <3
When working with allies, its best to have one who can stun. Anubis should be able to take care of his own, so just let him get the kill after a mummify, or toss a single meteor, and hope the delay lets you get the last hit. Gods like Thor, Arachne, Ares, Ymir, Hades, Artemis, etc, are your friends. And you may not even need them. You have a stun too.
You want to stay behind the tankish ones, and not take as much damage. Also, stunning an enemy so your ally can get a good hit is perfectly fine, and is good for the team. You can take a little bit of damage, and you have a semi-escape ability, so don't hesitate to literally block the enemy movement with your character. There is clipping; I have blocked a Ymir from killing a Cupid before, and I ended the encounter with an assist after our Thor got the overextended Ymir with my help.
The items should help a little, building up health, but you won't have any decent resistance, so watch out.
Pros:
Massive, quick damage with combo's.
Has an escape Ability.
Fun to burn people.
Can rack up multi-kills on groups.
Has a stun.
Combustion extra DoT without spending more mana.
3 charges for the ult.
Cons:
Squishy.
Uses combo's so needs all cooldowns reset.
8-15 second cooldowns.
No super-high one-shot-kill ability
No good close range abilities to deter pursuit (Ra has that flash thing, He Bo the river).
