Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.
SMITEFire is the place to find the perfect build guide to take your game to the next level. Learn how to play a new god, or fine tune your favorite SMITE gods’s build and strategy.

For example, you really don’t wanna build Book of Thoth or Soul Gem on Anubis, so I’d start by removing those. I’d also swap Spear of Desolation for Spear of the Magus which is a core item for him, since all of his abilities deal damage over time and this can proc Magus’ passive.
So, the build order would be Bancroft's Talon, Shoes of Focus, Spear of the Magus, Chronos' Pendant, Typhon's Fang and Obsidian Shard (swap for Rod of Tahuti if the enemy comp has no tanks).
If you don’t want CDR (which I don’t recommend at all), swap Shoes of Focus for Shoes of the Magi and swap Chronos' Pendant for Spear of Desolation (or Divine Ruin if the enemy team have healers).
As you said, biggest sin here is not including Spear of the Magus. I typically wouldn't build Obsidian Shard as well unless against the tankiest of comps. Magus should do nicely for core pen otherwise.
