Introduction

Hey all.... my name is GrumpyWalrus. This is my first SmiteFire Guide. I wanted to do a guide for Anubis, who is my favorite God to play, however I feel like a lot of guides don't really do him justice. I've been playing Smite for about a year, and have mainly played Anubis (6200+ kills, 4500+ Assists, 400+ wins at the time of this writing) so I've played him quiet a bit (although not completely, I do have several other Gods with masterys as well). That being said, I'm just now starting to understand how he should truly be played. He is by nature a solo lane God (although can be a fantastic Jungler).

QUICK SIDE NOTE.... This guide is not the be all end all guides to Anubis. There can be no such list. Every match is different and every match up is different. You should learn to read what your enemy is building and change the build accordingly, however this is a good starting point that is a nice, well rounded build suitable for most situations.

Also, there will be more to come with pictures. This was typed on my lunch break at work when I had limited access to most of the content. Fill free to leave any comments with criticism or ideas. I'm always open to learn something new.

Pros / Cons

I don't like Pro and Con lists, as I think any God can be played in a way that has minimal cons depending on item selection and positioning in lane, however.....

PROS.....
Highest Damage Mage in the game....period.
Potential Backdoor
Can Ult Gold Fury, Fire Giant, and Titan
Can function as Mid, Solo, or Jungle
One of the best 1v1 Gods in the game

CONS.....
No escape
Very squishy
High gank potential (which is why this is a solo guide)
2 of 3 abilities leave him rooted

Items

A lot of the items are self explanatory and appear on several, if not all guides for Anubis... so we'll ignore those items. The ones most people might question are Gem of Isolation, Spirit Robe, and possibly (though I can't understand why) Spear of the Magus...

So first.... Spear of the Magus. This item is MADE for Anubis. It plays perfectly with his natural passive due to the reduced protections. It's perfect for Anubis and increases his damage and penetration to an unbelievable level.

Secondly.... Spirit Robe. I go back and forth on this item honestly. There are better defensive items that can be chosen depending on the God you're matched against. (Baka=Witchblade). Spirit Robe adds a nice security blanket of both physical and magical defense for team fights, as well as a small amount of CDR, which is the only CDR item I build.

Third..... Gem of Isolation. I build this item a little later on for the team fighting phase. The added slow coupled with the natural passive slow of Anubis 3, Grasping Hands, can be deadly to most enemy Gods caught in it, so much so they waste either beads or an escape to dodge the damage, leaving Mummify to trap and then melt their face.

Some items that you might consider....

Chronos Pendant.... I've built this item for a long time, and while the cooldown is nice, but Anubis isn't really a CDR God. He's designed to be a ultra carry, high damage God. CDR doesn't really add much to Anubis, and the added damage you can receive through other items are much much.... did I say much better.

Soul Reaver..... definitely worth a thought. If you find yourself unable to deal enough damage quickly to be effective, consider picking this item up in exchange for either Spirit Robe or Gem of Iso. *****WORD OF CAUTION***** If electing to change out Spirit Robe for Soul Reaver... you might consider changing Shoes of the Magi out for the CDR Shoes (Shoes of Focus).

Skills

You'll notice (if you've looked at many other guides or played Anubis much at all) I build my 1 (Plague of Locusts) fairly late compared to others. That's because of the rooting effect PoL has. I only typically use the 1 if I'm securing a kill or as a last ditch effort to Zone or attempt to finish a kill when escape is no longer an option.

Grasping Hands, although the weaker of the 2 regular ability attacks, is much safer since it can be fired from a distance. Most Gods are going to turn and run when GH has been used either on them or near them, creating a safety barrier between you and the enemy God, and if they choose to press forward, you can Mummify and then melt their face.

I also like leveling the Mummify a little earlier than normal because it keeps the enemies in the damage longer.

ORDER OF ATTACK
Most people assume that you should wrap your opponent then cast Grasping Hands or PoL, however this is incorrect. Grasping Hands can be cast first, then wrap your opponent and either ult or PoL depending on positioning. If this is followed (3,2, then 1 or 4) you're more likely to maximize the amount of damage done to the enemy God.

Actives/Consumables

Consumables are obvious. You need Mana potions and Wards. Lots of Wards. LOTS. OF. WARDS. Did you get that? Ward everything on the solo side, even Mid lane if Mid is not warding properly. Wards are important. You're playing a God that is rooted for 2 of his 3 attacks, that has no inherent escape. WARD, got it?

As far as Actives go.... it varies on so many things I can't list them all.

If the enemy team is stun heavy, you'll need Beads (and maybe Magi's Blessing..... but that's another topic).

If they're high damage potential (Poseidon's ult) you're going to want Aegis Shield.

Combat blink can be helpful as an escape or engagement tool, but be careful to not blink out of position.

Weakening Curse can also be super helpful for slowing enemies down to keep them in your damage, or even as an escape aid as well.

Play to your strengths and see what works best for you in the situation that you're in.

Team Work

I know I said Anubis is a solo God, and a 1v1 master, however this is a team fighting game. You're going to have to be there in team fights. Anubis works best as a deterrent. You should stay just behind the team, as a fictional "line in the sand" daring the enemy team to leap into the center of the fight. A last line of defense that dares an enemy to come close enough to be wrapped and face melted.

Anubis should never be the one to initiate a fight. You should always make the team fight on your terms (which they're not going to want too). Wait them out. Make them engage, even if it's the tank. With the natural passive as well as passive from Spear of the Magus, you can melt through even the biggest tanks with relative ease. Then the enemy team is backpeddling because they've lost their frontline and you can drop a Grasping Hands to slow the enemies down and deal massive damage. Before you know it, you've won the fight and can either safely take Fire Giant or push a lane or tower that is behind.

Speaking of pushing... Anubis is not a split pusher. He is an ability based God, and abilities do not affect towers. Leave the split pushing to the ADC or Jungle. Anubis can be effective early game pushing lanes when ganks are less likely and you're easily winning lane, but stay with the team late game. Trust me.

First thing i want to mention is, why do you not start off with the first point into the 1? It does more damage then the 3, lasts longer and you can adjust your aim. I found it to be a lot more helpful, since you will clear buff camps much faster. And when you buy the tiny trinket, you will get out of the first minion wave with minimal damage, and by then your 3 will be activateable.
With your experiance on Anubis, do you think switching the bancrofts talon from early game to a Phytaghorems piece later is a good idea? The phytagorms will give you 25% lifesteal as such, and with the Anubis passive even a 50% LS after just 3 stacks on the P. Additionally, it will only leave you short of 10 MP compared to the Bancrofts, but the passive of bancrofts of course will increase your MP the weaker you got HP wise whoch phyt. cant offer. Since however you will be at about 700-800 MP with full build, those potentially 99 MP more from bancrofts passive seem neglectable when you get a twice as high LS in return as well as the 10% CDR.
Let me know what you think, it was just a mindgame that just popped up.

Edit: I usually level my 1 and my 3 with each other, to get the most out of the 1 (Most damage ability in game) and the 2 ( stuns longer which will help your ult and 3 of course). Have you ever tried going for the 1 instead of the 3 first and being more careful?

Not bad, but there are problems.

Thanks. It's still a work in progress. I just haven't had much time to update it lately. I'll see what I can do to make it more visually appealing later this week.
