Hey there! My name is Darkscare_13 and my GamerTag is (appropriately) Darkscare13. I use the same name for every game, original me. I'm pretty new to Smite, only started in January, and I got pretty hooked due to my friend. I hope you enjoy and get lots of knowledge from reading this!
(P.S - This is going to be a long text guide without many visuals. I'll keep the visuals up, but don't expect a lot. I'll provide a TL:DR summary after the text long chapters, but to gain the full information, please read the entire chapter word for word.)
Now, my favorite god so far has been Ao Kuang. I've gotten pretty far enough that I got the tempest skin and rank 10 with the diamond skin.
I'm pretty new to this guide making, and I don't have enough free time to code, so iÄşl just keep the minimum barebones text till I learn more. Sorry for no fancy images and stuff. (Nevermind, will update when I have freetime)
Now this build is pretty questionable, but it's gotten me through many games with a 2:1 KDR at least. Ao Kuang has been debuffed in the latest patch, but he still does a tremendous amount of damage. I've looked over other guides on
Ao Kuang, but I feel that they focus too much on power. With this build, you have more than enough power to kill an enemy. You don't need to kill them twice over. I feel like the only power you need are the
Shoes of the Magi,
Demonic Grip, and
Telkhines Ring, everything else should be focused on other things. With this build, I've done that thinking for you.
I highly recommend building in order as the item before usually compliments the ones after, I'll explain that in the equipment section.
Ao Kuang is a great mage/assassin, who, if fed, can actually hypercarry the team. The only problem is that he's hard to use at the first time, but with practice, you can actually get no deaths and many, many kills. The greatest thing to remember is to NOT be greedy, unless you have a sure chance that you'll get out of there alive, that gets you killed most of the time.
Ao Kuang heavily relies on his combo, and should always attack with the recommended combo (See below). He excels at taking down tanks with his burst damage and ultimate,
King of the Eastern Seas. He fails at taking too much damage though, as he is very squishy, but what assassin isn't? He is very susceptible to any type of CC or stun and will die easily without backup.
Ao Kuang's kit can escape, grant invisibility, execute, and slow. It's no problem to fight 1v1, but be aware of the enemies kit.
Pros: -Very high burst damage. -Very maneuverable/mobile -Has an execution - ![]() -Ultimate can easily double, triple, quadra or even penta kill. -Easily cleans up fights. -Win most 1v1 fights unless stunned -Not everybody uses him -Solid Waveclear ( ![]() -Good all around the entire game except early game -Balanced as can be |
Cons: -Very Squishy, only above ![]() -Iffy in team fights -Most targeted -First banned in Leagues -You WILL get hate for not playing him right -Hard to use/get used to -Relies heavily on both basic and ability attacks -If stunned, easily killed -Can easily mess up combo and have the tides be turned against himself -Poor early game -Kill steals like no tomorrow |
My sequence in any and all game really varies and depends on how much I mess up by putting the wrong point into another skill (Gets annoying a lot).
(Note that I'm not showing the actual button presses 1-2-3-4, but which ability you should level first as a priority.)
Passive - King's Sword
Let's first talk about the Ao Kuang's passive,
King's Sword. It has 3 charges and each charge, if used with an ability grants 5% more damage with only a 5 second recharge once out of battle. The passive also substitutes for mana when you are out. This could be a game breaker, so remember that in the heat of battle. This is a great significant buff, and should be used with utmost impunity.
Ability 1 - Dragon Call
You typically start off with Dragon Call, it'll give you a ranged attack and nobody wants to mess with a guy with dragons floating around him. It'll also help you get your speed buff and help your solo get his mana buff. This counts as a basic attack, and should be used for melee attacks, and not the ranged attack. By pressing two again, the dragons can be launched out as a ranged attack, slowing down the first god hit. Be aware that this can also be body blocked by minions. The ranged attack slows, but not by a significant amount. Shoot on your own terms, not on your own risk. You should max this SECOND
Ability 2 - Water Illusion
You should then get the Water Illusion, for your escape, not much to say about this except don't upgrade it at all. You're not going to use this for attack, at least I hope not. It does better late game (Tons of damage if you land it), when people finally realize you're squishy and chase you (and walk through your illusion) rather than somebody else. You should max this LAST
Ability 3 - Wild Storm
Your main attack will ALWAYS be Wild Storm, great poke damage and great wave clear, and it only takes 5 second to recharge without any CD equipment! The amount of damage it puts out is GODLIKE combined with
Dragon Call. You should max this FIRST
King of the Eastern Seas
*Jaws theme*
You have an X marked on your body! Oh no, there's an Ao Kuang nearby! ****!
"You have been slain" Goes the Announcer
"Kneel before me!" Goes Ao Kuang
This is my favorite ultimate as you literally cannot miss unless you get KS'd, body blocked, or if the enemy uses Greater Purification.
This can turn the tide in a battle, because this ultimate is great for cleanup, as you can easily get a PENTA kill if the time is right. You should max this WHENEVER YOU CAN
tl:dr
1. Dragon Call
2. Water Illusion
3. Max Wild Storm first
4. Level King of the Eastern Seas when you can
5. Max Dragon Call second
6. Max Water Illusion last
Equipment, this is what you came here to see.

Let's say you're chasing ![]() ![]() Magi's Blessing will take out any hard CC effect. I first discovered this is great against ![]() ![]() |
Ao Kuang is great 1v1, and due to this build, he can be viable in teamfights with the high hp the equipment offers. Although he can be in teamfights, he is usually the one to fall back first.
