Rangda mask 500 gold feel free to build rangda's mask on ares because 10% movement + 10% cooldown is exactly what ares needs and 500 gold is super cheap for the huge pay off ares will receive.

Ares Conquest

Ares is a horrible guardian to front line with are has no disrupting Crowd control and no escape ability are will die all the f@#ken time out in front in a team fight he just a bad front line god.

(strategy)
Theres is a way to have a huge impact in a conquest game with Ares if your consider Ares not as a standard guardian but as an assassin a bulky assassin like bulk build fenrir!

whats a bulky assassin need to do?
Ares can play from the jungle and attack an enemies back line with unbelievable force ideally if ares can attack from the jungle use chains and cripples from behind when enemies are unaware then ult and sprint relic to escape all CC and head back towards your own team.

Ares can chain or combo down any one god without defensive items play a support role but pretend ares is an assassin in that support role and you will do exceptional

(Build)
Ares needs to do damage just to keep up in levels as ares struggles to level in conquest so in conquest building bulk without power on Ares is the absolute worst thing to do.

Ares needs power to kill minions,camps,ect that is to level up at the same rate as everyone else and minions are immune to penetration items but penetration items are necessary for killing gods quickly as Ares. (You just can't win Ares needs everything)

Building- Sands of time, shoes of focus, spear of desolation is an awesome start Ares can kill jungler's and gods to protect the ADC but Ares will be frail.

Hide of the urchin- Ares will get kills and assists so building hide of the urchin is a great idea

Aura's- any aura are a good idea

Starter items- there are times were starter items are a necessary other times there just a waste of gold and slow down your bulid.

Intro

Ares stone of gaia or jade emperors crown are great in solo. Ares can also be good in duo. Ares 1 shackles hits as hard as some ultimate attacks ares 1 hits at 840 magical damage and 120% scaling.

e.g chain 1. 2 ticks of 105(15%),105(15%)=210(30%) chain 2. 2 ticks 420(60%) chain 3 is the big damage with 4 ticks and doubling damage bringing the total damage of ares 1 ability to 840(120%) if fired slowly. or a minimum of 4 ticks 420(60%)per individual enemy chained.


Ares is an extremist he really struggles when he is behind but Ares really thrives when he is ahead

Supporting role as ares

ares is not the support that runs around burning enemy abilities ares support works better with damage. Well i think it does anyway if you want to run around forcing cooldowns use someone better for it like geb.

ares CC with gem of isolation supports the team with a 8 second slow that may as well be a stun.

Searing flesh: Can take at least 25% hp from bulky opponents

bolster defences can almost double more frail allies defences. with items totals to +70/60-91/81 protections. also buffs minions and the titan. and adds a 30% CC reduction to ally gods

CC ultimate that can nuke teams in a team fight.

Supporting allies by stopping fleeing enemies attempting to escape

ares support is capable of carry a team to victory if played well

are support most importantly. Should actively seek out and kill assassins and hunters in teamfights to stop teamates from dieing because ares is often times the most capable of deterring or killing them on your team by using bolster defence and slows such as shackles and curse and his ultimate attack for example huntdown gods like loki and neith.

bolster defence

bolster defence: I think this is not designed to make ares super tanky but to make up for the lack of bulk by adding just enough 40 on his protections and allies

Offensive hunters have around 40/60 protections at level 20 so it almost doubles there protections

With aura items in his build it totals to +70/60-91/81 protections. also buffs minions and the titan and adds a 30% CC reduction

Cooldown on cooldowns

Ares cool down builds are ok but even with max cooldown ares will still have to wait a really long time to use his ability thats why 20/40 cooldown is usually the most i use if i use any cooldown at all. to justify why i don't bother with cooldown is that on ares to use a cooldown build you have to sacrifice power and power from passive items making ares 1 ability shackles get less use from his 120% scaling now this matters because most hyper offense hunters,assassins and mage will be completely killed by an ares 1,3 combo early and late game.

Playstyle: 1. hit and run 2. hit and kill

ares plays like a hit and run god when the carry kills most of the minions get in fire a chain at a gods get back behind your minions/carry and try to keep health as high as possible for when/if they decide to pursue ares or if they initiate a fight then be ready to body block for the carry now idealy ares wants to start of in a lane helping with chip damage and not initiating a fight until there hunter/carry has less then 70% health then go for the jugular and kill the carry with ares shackles/flamthrower combo that slow and prevent most escapes but in order to kill ares needs to prioritise power in his builds also always try to shackles/ult as many opponents as possible(power fist bulk second)

Hazards

hazards:Hazards for ares are stuns or hard CC that often times cut ares 1,3 combo damage down to nothing.
I often have trouble with gods like kumbhakarna,bacchus,athena,cabrakan,yimir if you find yourself against these gods best build reinforced boots first and for khepri or ares build mark of the vangaurd and for skardi you may need a winged sword for skardi to get close or to run because of the slows. ares can manhandle most hunters or assassins but be careful of mages and any chip damage.

If you wanna be a brawler Ares you should still make use of his passive and do something good for your team as well as damage. So something like this:
As you can see you get +50 damage, + 4% lifesteal (not counting Bancroft's passive), +5 pen (due to void stone aura) but you lose out on spear passive ofc. so -40 pen when on 5 stacks. -40 physical prot, + 75 magical prot, + 100 health + 25 hp5.

But the most important thing is that you give your teammates:
+20 magical prot, +30 physical prot, 20 mp5 and 25 hp5 as well as 30 magical power and 12% magical lifesteal and 20 physical power and 10 physical lifesteal.

So you lose some power, lifesteal and penetration. But you do a whole lot more for your team and.
If you got your auras on all 4 teammates that is +80 magical prot +80mp5, + 120 physical prot +100hp5, + 120 magical power, + 48magical lifesteal + 80 physical power and + 40 physical lifesteal. :P

And you will still be top damage every game. You should also IMO go shoes of focus so that you can force more beads with blink ult. Ult cd from 90-80 can be pretty important.

yer thats a great build i normally build something like that in joust that build looks like a standard support build.! just note: (that in conquest you may fall behind often) with that build one of the big reasons nobody will pick ares in conquest is because the standard support build is not easy to use at all

Im an Ares main, I kinda know what Im talking about lol.

If you replace pen boots and pythags (153 damage per tick) with Shoes of Focus and Spear of the Magus. You will save 600 gold, still keep the same cooldown, and do 166 damage per tick.

Thats against squishy jungle practice Ra. If theyre tankier spear will do even more damage.

Cheaper, same cooldown, more damage = win win win. Tahuti is also bad since it only increases your damage by 16 per tick, while costing a **** load of gold. If you dont build another defense item, you'll be squishier than your solo lane warrior and get blown up. The protections are way more important than the little damage tahuti gives you.

If you want damage, you get spear and thats it. Thats all you need. From there you need protections, health, and utility.

thanks again masterricu. Very interesting comment i'll have to experiment more with the spear of the magus as item 5 but i like an aggressive with pen boots good for mid game aswell Ares is strong early-mid game. anyway on the defense's why even use ares if your going to run a hard tank build. Every other guardian can tank not just a little bit better but way way better then ares can and they have more useful CC. Ares tank is kind of pointless.

From my point of view ares is kind of like a warrior and guardian hybrid. in my build i have 177/155 defence after bolster defence and 200 is solid so yer his a little frail but i have no problem with defence in this build if your equal level or above defence is fine and most the time im above the enemies because ares owns everything.

If your using my bulid and your worried with defence just get mantle of discord and spear of desolation or stay away from mage's. i looked at your builds and they are good but too bulky for me there's power there but not enough to 75-100% gods and you don't have gem of isolation thats crazy.

I can see we not going to agree on some things i like power more then pen and more then bulk and you like bulk anyway i will try use spear of the magus more it's just i never have any luck when i build spear of the magnus. laneing seems to get overwhelming.

Get Spear of the Magus over tahuti. I explained this in my ares build. You will save $1,200 and still do the same damage. Ares also needs more protections, I'd suggest youd get urchin instead of pythags.

Thanks for the comment masterricu i'll add in spear of the magus as huge turbo damage but im sorry i'll have to disagree its not better then what i have in my build it won't fit well. spear of magus has great damage on ares because of DOT but will not allow you to kill the same. Ares is not in need of more protections if your the same level as the enemy's its like building a bulky hunter theres no point i believe ares most importantly needs POWER not bulk and not pen but it really depends on your enemy's because you'll try to counter build e.g against nox you need cooldowns. 1 of many reasons for power for example is "searing flesh hits minion's harder with power late game because of scaling. (minions get tougher over time)". if you fall behind then yes he will need protections. urchin is really good on ares but urchin offers no team support and no power i think it takes to long to stack compared to the alternative's that are instant protections and if you build urchin after item 3 you really need it to be instant pythags is there for power and cooldown or for bulk and cooldown is the mantle but only build mantle if your under-leveled. cooldown give a little more space with beads and more presence. with my build you can support really well. bulk with items and auras and bolster defence well enough and get around 20 kills and win like all 1v1's and offer a huge contribution in 2v2's
