This Build Werks

The build provides heavy damage all the time. The start is slow but ends hard. Book of Thoth, Shoes of the Magi, Chronos' Pendant, and Gem of Isolation are all core items for Kuku. The final two items are almost entirely up to preference but I do think obsidian shard is necessary if there is even one semi-tank god on the other team. Poly is really good for the life steal and mana (esp with new book) and the extra basic damage is nice.

Better build: Book of Thoth, Shoes of Focus, Book of the Dead, Obsidian Shard, Polynomicon, Soul Reaver. Can swap book of dead for Gem of Iso.

Book of the Dead is absolute trash for Kuku on joust and Poly is even worse because Kuku simply does not gain enough power to hit hard enough on a basic. On top of all that, lifesteal is too low and there are better options to do more damage and have more utility. Also, your focus shoes are much worse on this build, so shoes of the magi would work much better because of the pen.

You don’t need that much lifesteal on him. His 3 and ult abilities are AoE (except his 1) which means he gains reduced lifesteal from those abilities. Poly is absolutely worth it on him since the book of Thoth buffs and the general synergy with Thoth and Book of the Dead. Book of the Dead isn’t 100% perfect in Joust but can be useful against comps with high burst (e.g they have a mage like Agni), but again I listed Gem as an alternative. Not sure why you’re talking about utility except for from gem of iso. You should be getting CDR shoes on him due to his passive and the fact it’s a book of Thoth build (even better if you include book of the dead). Getting Magus or Obsidian is of course game dependent (team and enemy comp accounted), having not one can be countered easily and you definitely want one of those if against a team with 2 tanks.

I don't really mind the double stacking (although now in patch 5.13 I don't recommend Warlock's Staff as much).

The reason this build is ineffective is because of its complete lack of penetration.

That video mainly addresses conquest issues, and while I didn't (but should have) say this is a joust centric build, it is. As well, it doesn't address the issue of the specifically kuku play. Overall, the video seems to be formatted to a specific play style, while ignoring that others play differently.

Im assuming this is strictly a conquest build because i cant imagine it's viability in arena.

building book and maxing stacks is relatively easy in arena. i max book, building it first within the first 5 minutes of the game with absolutely no trouble whatsoever. building sash just seems like a delay and a waste of time. by the time you have book built, im halfway done stacking it already. Just seems like sash in lieu of safety to build the book makes me think you're playing kuku a little too close to the action. You can build his health, but it wont change the fact that he's still kuku and basically dirty looks will drop him to 25% health no matter what items you build..

i think its a lot wiser to build mp5, mobility, damage, and pen way before health.

Kuku isn't really meant for arena unless you REALLY know how to play Kuku. I recommend learning to play Kuku in something simple with a lane, like Joust. I also updated the text to include that it give a significant amount of power, that comes from the stacks and the extra 300 mana. MP5 isn't necessary because late game you'll have such a big pool that you wont really run out. And you don't really need to be super mobile at all, especially early in the laning phase before you really start to either get aggressive and push hard, or rotate (if playing a game mode where you can rotate). And yes, by the time you have half the stacks for warlocks sash you do build book of thoth, that is literally why you build it first. Sash takes longer to stack, so you stack it first.
