The build provides heavy damage all the time. The start is slow but ends hard. Book of Thoth, Shoes of the Magi, Chronos' Pendant, and Gem of Isolation are all core items for Kuku. The final two items are almost entirely up to preference but I do think obsidian shard is necessary if there is even one semi-tank god on the other team. Poly is really good for the life steal and mana (esp with new book) and the extra basic damage is nice.
Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.

The reason this build is ineffective is because of its complete lack of penetration.
building book and maxing stacks is relatively easy in arena. i max book, building it first within the first 5 minutes of the game with absolutely no trouble whatsoever. building sash just seems like a delay and a waste of time. by the time you have book built, im halfway done stacking it already. Just seems like sash in lieu of safety to build the book makes me think you're playing kuku a little too close to the action. You can build his health, but it wont change the fact that he's still kuku and basically dirty looks will drop him to 25% health no matter what items you build..
i think its a lot wiser to build mp5, mobility, damage, and pen way before health.
