Introduction

शुभकामना, and welcome to my guide. This guide will look at a long-awaited entry into Smite's roaster, a God significant in his respected mythology and across the smite community as a whole. After a long wait, he finally makes his appearance on the battleground. Ladies and gentlemen, Shiva.
Note: you don't have to follow this guide to the smallest detail. These are suggestions on how to play Shiva. I encourage you to see the comment section below and other tips.

Who is Shiva?

Shiva is a Physical Melee Warrior who can either support his allies or hinder his enemies depending on which state he's currently in during the cycle of his passive. Having multiple AOE abilities to control and damage enemies at his disposal and an ultimate with a large radius to deal with multiple opponents or allies, depending on which steps you take during your performance.

Pros / Cons

Pros
  • High Area Effect
  • High Zone Control
  • Healing
Cons
  • Bad Initiation
  • No Control over Stance
  • Low Damage

Shiva excels at covering large sweeps of area and providing effects that benefit his allies or hinder his enemies. It can also offer healing in a large area that can expand and be amplified based on the steps in your dance.
While Shiva has all he sure lacks in areas, his stances are on a cycle that changes based on the damage done to enemies, so you can't provide the status effects you want.

Abilities

Samsara
Shiva shifts between two stats, Bliss and Destruction, once a certain amount of damage is dealt to enemy gods. Each state provides benefits while Shiva is in that state:
While in the Bliss state, Shiva's abilities provide buffs to allies and have an aura that increases Hp5/M5 for him and his allies.
While in the Destruction state, Shiva's abilities debuff enemies and have an aura that reduces Hp5/Mp5 of enemy gods.

Emblazoned Sweep
Shiva spins his trident in a circle in an area while leaving a fire ring at the edge of the circle that damages all enemies. Any enemy god caught in the radius of this ability is pulled toward the center. Depending on which state of the cycle you're on, this ability provides an additional effect:
While in the Bliss state, Shiva and any ally who walks through the fire ring receive a movement speed buff.
While in the Destruction state, any enemy god who walks through the fire ring receives a movement speed debuff.

Damaru's Tempo
Shiva smacks the ground dealing damage to a cone in front of him. Before activating this ability, you can select 1 of 3 sections of the cone. That chosen area will now provide a knock-up.
Depending on which state of the cycle you're on, this ability provides an additional effect:
While in the Bliss state, Shiva and any ally in the cone receive an attack speed buff.
While in the Destruction state, any enemy god in the cone receives an attack speed debuff.

Pillar of Dawn
Shiva flies forward and stops at the end of the dash, where he enters a meditative state. While meditation, Shiva is CC immune, gains damage reduction, and provides a significant AoE effect on his state until the duration runs out or this ability is activated again.
Depending on which state of the cycle you're on, this ability provides an additional effect:
While in the Bliss state, Shiva and any ally in the radius gain three-block stacks.
While in the Destruction state, any enemy god in the radius is dealt damage over time until they leave the AoE

Shiva Tandava
Shiva becomes CC immune and starts performing his dance up to 4 steps. All his abilities to different steps of his dance. Each step provides a different effect:
Step 1 heals Shiva and allies in the radius.
Step 2 provides the effect from Steps 1 and 3 but cut in half. Any enemy or ally is in the radius when the step is performed. The radius and the effect become amplified.
Step 3 damages all enemies in the radius.

Tips, Tricks, & Combos

  • Follow the Rythem
It's good to have awareness and situational understanding while using your ultimate. Does your team need more damage, healing, or both? Picking which steps to go into can change how a teamfight goes when planned accordingly.
  • Chaînés
Shiva's low cooldown allows him to combo his abilities quickly and enables him to change states. Combining his abilities effectively separates a beginner from an experienced player.
  • Lockstep
Utilize his high crowd control potential from his first and second abilities to lock down opponents to take out a target or assist in team fights.

1
🠞
Start with Damaru's Tempo to knock up your opponent. Get close to them while in the air and use Emblazoned Sweep to pull them within basic attack range, and when the target runs past the ring of fire, they get damaged even more. This combo works best in Shiva's Bliss stance, thanks to the attack and movement speed buffs he will get. You can also throw in a pillar of fire to deal damage twice, or if you're in the Destruction state, deal damage over time.
Ultimate
🠞 🠞
Follow Combo 1 like before, but at the end of Emblazoned Sweep, you want to activate your ult and swap between Steps 2 and 3 to deal the most damage while providing healing for yourself. However, when in team fights, the kind of steps you want to be using depends on what your team needs at the time,

Stages of the Game

Early Game

Shiva can take full advantage of locking down and possibly securing a kill within the first five levels. Use his high aggression to bully the lane opponent but not too much, as his dash isn't something to rely on to get away from a gank.

Mid Game

Not necessarily bad. More like he plateaus during this state. Just farm lane, secure objectives, and push tower while applying pressure on your lane opponent.

Late Game

Now is the time to start helping the team; work with your high-damage dealers to secure kills. Utilize your high CC and areas of effect to hinder your enemies while supporting your allies.

Summary

In conclusion, Shiva specializes in controlling the area around him while providing effects that can hurt his enemies or help his allies, depending on which state he is currently in. Having access to the most potent form of CC in both primary damaging abilities displacement, Shiva can prevent most counterattacks for himself or his allies while also having a way to heal his team when it seems like everyone's in danger. Remember your stance during engagements, keep the enemy away or unable to fight back, and show them why you're called the Destroyer.

Is it really worth startin with the warrior axe to then have to replace it at 20 for the Bluestone?

Try Brooch > Glad > Binding > Contagion > Stronghold Amulet > Spectral/Spirit Robe/Archdruid

I'm guessing Stuke just made a boo boo and this should be a Bluestone starter as well.
