Build Summary

Notes Start with starter gem and T1 Rod. Then move into cool down shoes and either soul gem / spear of desolation. The health and healing from early soul gem is nice if you are against an aggressive jungler and need more survivability. The spear of desolation is good for pushing early leads with an aggressive jungler on your side. Ultimately, you would want both of them.

Staff of Myrdin is highly underrated, with how Chang E likes to engage with a blink-ult-3-1 combo into the back line with full stacks of Archmages' and Soul gem procs. The extra button to press from Myrddin makes she even more slippery and the CD and Pen won't hurt.

Then, shoes can be sold for a variety of items. It can be: Rod of Asclipius for more burst healing, Mantle of Discord for CD and survivability, Spear of Magus for pick off style comps, Obsidian shard against tankier teams.

You will always want to have blink and beads for the relics. If against a farm based jungler and mid, you can opt for blink first relic if feeling confident about pushing early leads and getting early blink ults. If not, beads is always a good starter relic. No need for aegis because her 2 provides immunity. However, her 2 must be used before CC to be effective, hence why a beads is still good on her.

Finally, don't forget your wards.

Extended Build

Introduction

Chang E has been one of the most highly prioritized mages in the game right now, and she does well with the current best items and is arguably towards the lower end of mages that were affected by the global anti-heal changes. She can fit well in both mid and solo, and that's what I will be making a guide on.

A lot of this guide will come from personal experience of a 70 % win rate on Chang E (for some reason) and guides/ideas from pro players (Fineokay, Nika, Bigmantings) and YouTubers (Incon, who has excellent guides).

This guide offers a lot of details and nuance about the character, and for the sake of size and time, the match ups will be added in later dates.

General Mid Strats

In mid, the season 8 start has mid and ADC start at the Red. Chang E excels at early pressure, and if you are confident about avoiding poke, then starting with Conduit Gem and Lost Artifact (T1 Rod of Tahuti) with pots and HOG (hand of the gods) allow you to quickly get to the mid lane and apply pressure.

Chang E's level 2 is strong with her 3-1 combo able to hit all of the enemy creeps and heal up your melee creeps. With blink on both mid and jungle, this can lead to easy first blood due to her base damage. In terms of scaling, her numbers are rather lack-lustre, due to how easily you can hit her abilities.

Purchase items with her bunnies whenever you can, but when in mid, don't be shy to also just back when needed due to the number of fights happening in mid in the past 2 seasons.

She should be able to full clear after getting the shoes with her 3-1 combo. In terms of levelling, if against a high CC mid and jungle (erlang's long range root for example), an early investment into the 2 will slow down the clear, but make she a lot harder to kill. Else, put a second point into 1 at level 3 before a point into 2 at level 4. After getting the ult, she should level the ult first, followed by her 1, 3 and lastly 2.

Like most mages, she becomes the strongest in the game a few items in (Rod, Shoes, Spear of Deso), so seek to use this chance and start fights with blink engage. A blink ult into the backline is the most obnoxious thing for carries to have to deal with. A chapter on her nuances is also included in this guide.

Into the late game once she has all the items, she should be looking to position with the solo laner/jungler for diving. She thrives into squishy comps with a lot of single target damage, as that meant it will be difficult for them to apply anti-heal, beyond the application of an ankh.

Chang E fall off in the poke battles around the FG pit due to her range, and she can be killed easily in late game if caught out alone in the jungle. She thrives best in dive comps, though makes up for other comps with her sustain. Chang E can often survive when many other mages won't, though if you die after getting off one rotation of your abilities and force out the relics from the enemy carries with your blink ult, your team should be able to clean up, assuming you dive together. (This is where the VVVF Follow me and VSA I'll attack commands are very helpful.)

In late game, her bunny can also be used to by Sentry wards. Please ward.

General Solo Strats

The solo lane is where I started abusing the Chang E pick from way back after seeing Fineokay putting her on number 2 of the mages in solo list. The buff to her 3 damage in mid-season 7 makes her clear better in solo lane and her identity of a melee mage even more annoying to play against.

Chang E is strongest in Solo at the early levels due to her clear. Some like to build full damage in a similar way to her mid-build, and there is nothing wrong with that. I personally enjoy a tankier and more healing/utility-based Chang E from the solo, which allows her to box into the warriors into mid-game with Lotus Crown online.

She has good early pressure, but watch out for even higher pressure gods like Cu Chu who can out-damage and out-clear Chang E in the early.

When faced against high-pressure warriors in the early, don't be afraid to let the minion waves into the tower until you can confidently full-clear with a single rotation of 3-1 combo. Once you can full clear and get lane pressure, look for deep wards in the enemy jungle and the totems. Chang E pushes leads very well and can rotate early into mid-fights. Due to the nature of solo laners rotating into fights, her ult will likely be more effective due to the surprise pathing.

Her passive also works great in Solo, as she can continue farming. Though her mana problem will be exacerbated if her blue buff is consistently invaded and she didn't get totem. However, both Lotus Crown and each tier of Rod of Tahuti has MP5, which should help with the issue.

When against a more passive solo laner (most guardians), blink will be useful for either getting out of sticky situations or getting early kills in mid. When against aggressive solo laner, beads is always a great option.

Into the Gold Fury and Pyro fights, her sustain will be great, which is why lotus crown and soul gem is exceedingly helpful. Moving into Rod of Asclipius also gives her health and movement speed alongside the healing passive.

Into the Late game and FG, her job is split between ulting the enemy backline and peeling the ally mid and adc with the application of her lotus crown proc. The Sundering Axe with her healing gives her an obnoxious amount of sustain into the late game. With sentinel's embrace on the support most games, she won't be lacking tankiness like last season.

Selling the shoes for Ethereal stuff will be the spiciest option, as the HP stealing from both E-staff and Sundering Axe will chunk away the diving enemy solo laner, and the Lotus crown prots (20 of each) makes your carry much harder to kill.

Once again, she will fall off in damage into the late with the bruiser/utility build, but your job is to utilize your stuns and healing aura to help keep your teammates alive.

Team Fighting

Chang E's one of the more fun gods in team fights, quoting Pandacat "I feel like I am always hit by something from Chang E." Her 1 and 3's large area makes it really hard to miss the abilities, and that makes her really suitable for one-shotting both carries if they stand too close to one another.

Chang E works great both as the primary and secondary engage. If she blink ults first, the goal is to force relics and push the carries back. If she (blink) ults second after another diver has gone it, it will mostly be to finish off the target and/or heal up.

When building full damage, her whole identity is blink-ult and one-shotting the backline.

When building bruiser, her identity is peeling/healing for backline and ulting the divers. When possible, ult the carries instead.

Chang E is most awkward when she used her rotation of skills and everything is on cool down in the middle of the enemy team. That's when she just dies, which is why investment into Cool Downs are always worthwhile, and diving with your teammates too.

Save her immunity in 2 for the more telegraphed ultimates. When she's locked in a CC chain, bead first and wait until the end of the beads duration before popping her 2 for the max duration of CC immunity.

The Nuances of the Character

Character Animation
Her animation is one of the best feeling in the game. Set her 2 and 3 on instant cast and 1 and ult on normal cast. You can do auto attack cancelling by going auto-3-auto-1 when feeling confident with the character.

Hitting the 1
Sometimes when the enemy is too close, her one can miss because the enemy is to the inside of the moon cone, which is kinda dumb. Fighting at just outside melee range is the best for her.

Timing the 2
The duration of her 2 is not as long as Sol's immunity in her 3, but the duration is longer than you think. The exact usage against different gods takes practice, but for something like Scylla's ult, don't press the 2 too early.

Styling with the 2
You don't have to move in a straight line when in her 2, and you use it to weave in through the fights. When moving out of the base, using her 1-2-3 also allows her to get quicker to lane.

Hitting the 4
Her 4 is her most useful skill in combat, though in most scenarios, hitting a 3 man ult will be the most value you can get from it. There is a tiny delay after pressing the button, so you can still swing your camera and change the angle of the projectile after pressing the button. The timing takes practice to get down, but the instant bursts and stun is very satisfying once hit.

Her Passive
Her bunnies are great through all stages of the game, unless you wanted to sell stuff.

Cringe?
Here's to more Chang E abusers out there. Have fun.

Yeah I have a love hate relationship with current doom orb and Warlock is just hard to fit in somewhere. I do really like the Pen and CD on myrdin a lot. The passive is really just stacking more dmg for the one shot.

you are 3 stars ahead of me so you have somewhat of an experience gap and i have a love hate with them too like i hate building stacks and i like doom orb for the movment speed because the way chang'e moves makes it easy to maneuver around abilites and it also is nice with your pasive

Are you really getting that much use out of soul gem in the solo build? Maybe swap it out for Genji’s or Void Stone?

Genjis and Void Stone will both work. Soul Gem's bonus heal procs on both Rods and I just like tbe higher damage from it.

Also I’d recommend reordering the item order to how you would usually do it in game, also possibly adding your level 1 start as well.
