Introduction

Chang'e is an utility mage.
Her identity is this: "Annoying to counter." That is all.

Chang'e didn't get love. Every patch gave her nerf, except adding damage to third skill and Rabbit speed buff. So she is not a good god to pick actually. Everyone says she is 'balanced', but where is balance in Smite? All mages deal hard damage while Chang'e cannot clear minion wave with single skill. She needs more love, but Hi-rez always ignores her and Aphrodite.

So if you want to play safely, you need to build her as a bruiser.

Pros / Cons

Pros

    Her passive and 3 make Chang'e stay in lane long enough. After 11 minutes, Chang'e usually doesn't need to go to base.
    1 is hard to miss.
    2 and Fast movement speed make enemies upset.
    3 has healing reduce, so she can counter warrior gods who have self-healing well.
    She fights well against with melee gods. => Warriors, Assassins

Cons

    Chang'e is one of the worst stated-god... Low damage, low heal, low mana, low protection.
    Rabbit is not smart enough, so sometimes he wanders in jungle.
    There are too many Anti heal items. 120% healing reduce in 8 seconds. Yay.
    She can't fight against with long-ranged gods. => Mages, Hunters

Items

Early Game


Warrior's Blessing helps you sustain more. If you hit an enemy god, you get 40 health and 40 mana.
Place Wards usefully, actually jungles don't gank solo lane at early game, but prepare for the worst, aye.
If you can't sustain well enough with Warrior's Blessing, use Multi Potion. With her low stat, Chang'e runs out with health and mana easily.

Let's be Tanky!


Warlock's Staff with full stack gives you 115 MP, 500 health, 400 mana. Just snowball slowly.
Shoes of Focus is fine with Chang'e. She needs to use her 1 often, but she got nerf that 1's cooldown is 6 seconds. So we need to reduce cooldown.
So I recommend Breastplate of Valor and Genji's Guard. High protections to cover her low stats, and cooldown reduces. Of course you can build Genji first if you meet Magical solo laner.
Gem of Isolation is good to all mages, I guess. 90 MP, health, and slow option. In late game, these boys get faster, so you should chase them. Gem is very useful.

What should I build next?


I will give you three options.
Shaman's Ring gives you 100 power and movement speed, also semi-penetration option.
You should pick Bancroft's Talon if you haven't been a good player, so if you want to sustain more, build it.
Build Divine Ruin if there are so many self or team healers.
Yes, you don't have penetration. But when you build this items, it would be late game. A team fight. Your position is not a dealer, but a support. You don't have to deal damage that much. Just poke and make them upset.

I got Speed of Elixir!


Then build Shield of Regrowth. As I said in Introduction, Chang'e's(lol) identity is an annoying god. This item gives you 10% cooldown, so you can keep full cooldown reduce. And it gives you 400 health and movement buff. This is the only hope of healer gods.
You can cover your MP with potions, so don't worry about 55 power.

Relics?


Like every solo laner, I recommend Teleport Glyph. You should upgrade it if your team lost many towers.
And I want to build Sprint or Shell. Sprint makes our team fast. Shell protects our team. We should build it wisely.

Tips

    You have Rabbit. USE THIS BOY. This is not an animal abuse.
    Poke enemy solo and minions with your 1 often.
    Chang'e has passive that remove backpedal penaly when she uses her skill. So you can do Hit-and-Run.
    Do not spam your 2 at early game. It has long cooldown after nerf...
    Use your 3 in perfect timing, when enemy uses their healing skill.
    Spam your ultimate in team-fight. Of course you must hit them at least 2.
    Spam your 3 in team-fight.
    Make enemies upset.

Summary

Chang'e needs buff. Mage who needs protection? Eh. Don't rationalize this situation like, "She is an utility mage" "She is balanced". Nope. Chang'e is not good enough in this ocean of OP.

No, but it's funny to read. You should know by now that Kriega expects everybody to know the meta and he can't be bothered to explain a build's failings because he's too sexy for this site. I've also heard that he's a model who likes to shake his little tush on the catwalk.

If you are going to make a solo/tanky Chang'e I don't think you will need Bancroft's Talon (I don't think you will need it at all, in any modes).

Also last time I played with a Chang'e solo I built: Shoes of Focus, Chronos' Pendant, Celestial Legion Helm, Void Stone, Shield of Regrowth, Mantle of Discord then I sold shoes to get Spirit Robe due the high CC the enemy team had. Maybe this could be an alternative without stacking for your build.

SmiteFire & Smite

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions.
