Tsukuyomi Build

Starter Items

Notes Starting item is really about personal preference and play. For a jungling Tsuku, your best bet is Assassin's Blessing. If you're intending to solo lane or are playing Clash/Duel, Attacker's Blessing is your go-to item. I then tend to rush Transcendence, unless I'm facing a quicker god. I'll jump into tier two boots if necessary on my first back to the fountian.
Buy as many mana/health potions as you deem necessary to outlast the enemy jungler/laner.
The first relic can be a tough choice, but I usually veer towards Aegis Amulet. Blink Rune can be used to initiate a fight and gank from the jungle (which is quite a tasty prospect, honestly).

Main Build

Notes "Oh no, two stacking items?! How ever will I build both?" you may ask yourself, but fear not! Tsukuyomi is currently over-powered and can easily clear minion waves and build both items. Having that bit of lifesteal is extremely helpful in teamfights and gives him enough staying power to outlast threats.
Arondight may be a surprising choice, but consider this: his Ultimate lands you directly ontop of an enemy of your choice. Landing and dealing an extra percentage of power when striking is VERY GOOD.
Of course, with Elixir of Speed online, you can swap Warrior Tabi for some other situational power item (or even defensive, honestly).

Anti-Heal

Notes I find Brawler's to be the perfect solution for healing gods. Placing caltrops underneath gods actually procs this item effect, meaning they have reduced healing for 8 seconds while you begin your onslaught of attacks.

Situationals

Notes If you find yourself getting clapped, I might suggest Void Shield to replace Soul Eater or even Heartseeker, whatever the situation demands. This is also an alternative item when selling boots. If you're feeling like creating a bruiser Tsuku, Void Shield is a must. Berserker's is a notable item since they've improved it with the update, but I don't know if it's worth an item slot. Usually, when Tsuku is at low enough health, he will typically just perish.
If you don't like building stacks, are in a low scoring game, or generally dislike Soul Eater, Bloodforge is an alternative that provides great power and a bit of lifesteal.

Tsukuyomi's Skill Order Notes You may be asking yourself, "Why is she ignoring the caltrops until the end? They add such a great debuff to the enemy!" Well, you're quite right. That slow is phenomenal, with a percentage of damage to boot. The simple answer is this: the rest of Tsuku's kit is just better. The caltrops are a great way to ensure the enemy will not leave your encounter alive, but I find that investing in Kusarigama and Dark Moon Shuriken earlier allows Tsuku to hit harder and stun longer earlier. I always improve the ultimate on any god as soon as I can, as that improves damage.

Tsukuyomi channels the power of the Full Moon, gaining Crowd Control immunity and 20% Damage Reduction. He fires forward 4 powerful piercing beams of moonlight. Enemy gods damaged become marked. Each beam can hit up to 3 enemy gods. After firing all beams Tsukuyomi charges forward at light speed, dashing through all enemies in the order they were hit, dealing heavy damage. Introduction

Welcome to my guide for Tsukuoyomi, God of the Moon
My name is Red. I'm a casual player with a lot of experience in Arena, Joust, and Clash. I play Conquest occasionally, mostly filling the Jungling and Solo roles. This is my first published guide for SmiteFire, as I really enjoy Tsukuyomi. Please be patient as I update and fix errors accordingly!

Let's dive into Smite's newest assassin, Tsukuyomi.

Pros/Cons

As with any god, Tsukuyomi has pros and cons that align best with certain playstyles.

Pros:
  • Range Options (did someone say BUSTED ranged basic attacks?)
  • Great Utility
  • High Single Target Damage
  • High Powered Ultimate with ability to target multiple gods

Cons:
  • Very Squishy
  • Low Mobility (he has no dash, jump, etc.)
  • Limited Boxing Ability
  • Low sustain (until you get a couple of items online to boost your passive.)

Skills

Passive - Shingetsu & Mangetsu
Shingetsu & Mangetsu are coming for you. As any legendary fighter will tell you, one must always name their blade. In Tsukuyomi's case, he has named his twin tonfa after the new moon and full moon. His passive ability grants him buffs dependent upon dealing damage with them. These buffs also increase with a percentage of Tsukuyomi's power. As he gets more items online and increases his power, his passive also scales accoordingly. This passive is incredible and make this assassin worthwhile.
1 - Dark Moon Shuriken
Dark Moon Shuriken is an ability made for engaging and chasing. You see any enemy through the jungle. You activate a Blink Rune to gank the lane. The Metal Gear exclamation mark sound pops off as you launch a Shuriken at the enemy, doing damage and stealing their movement speed as you close the gap (if you fire off the basic). Not only does this ensure you can catch the unlucky god you're pursing, but you reduce the cooldown if you retrieve the shuriken. I personally like to hold onto my basics until I use all three abilities on a god. If they do not fall to your onslaught of skills, the ranged basics make SURE they don't go home. This ability also passes through all enemy minions, dealing damage to each on that line.
2 - Kusarigama
Kusarigama might just be the most powerful ability in Tsukuyomi's kit. This ability activates in a small circle around Tsukuyomi, dealing damage, disarming, and finally STUNNING the god in front of him (in a short line). You can and will stun more than one god if they are clustered too close to one another. I love to use this ability to save an ally from another god's wrath (i.e. stunning a Hades that is pursuing my comrade so he cannot finish the job) or to immediately stun after ending Tsuku's ultimate ability. If you find yourself facing a god with wicked movement speed (or dashes or jumps) and need a quick escape, this ability gives increased movement speed to disengage to try and save your own life.
3 - Silver Moon Caltrips
Silver Moon Caltrops are pretty powerful (and a little too good if you ask me). Placing the caltrops beneath a god does damage to them and slows them while they move across them. They remain in place for the duration and continue to damage and slow every god that BARELY touches them. Trust me. I've had plenty of Tsuku's actually kill me with caltrops because I wasn't paying attention to the ground. I've also hit plenty of gods with these just as they turned to run from me and managed to snag a kill. I've dropped them beneath other circles from allies and attempted to obfuscate them, as well. I recently picked up a trick where if an enemy Tsuku is ulting an ally, I'll drop caltrops beneath them so the enemy Tsuku takes damage every time he dashes through them. This ability lands in a moon shaped arc which is decently sized and can easily encompass most of a lane. These also continually damage minions as they march through them in their line, making this ability great at minion clear.
4 - Piercing Moonlight
Piercing Moonlight might just be one of the most insane Ultimates in the game. Not only do you feel like a Dragon Ball Z fighter upon launching it, Tsuku deals damage to every god hit by each beam and ends his dash on the final god hit. This beam does hit multiple gods in a line if they're all clustered together, meaning you can, in theory, do up to TWELVE dashes. That's actually one of Tsuku's achievements, and I got it on my first match played with him. Just launch yourself into oblivion and hope for a kill, because you're almost guaranteed to get at least one, if not three. The aiming works similarly to a Ra ultimate line, but you can aim each beam individually. This is the scariest part of Tsukuyomi, as there is absolutely nothing you can do to counter this, aside from activating an Aegis Amulet. If Tsuku only targets a single god with this ability, the Aegis will effectively stop the whole ultimate and end his dashes early. As of when I'm writing this, the ultimate has a bug where Tsuku can be pulled out of it if he is hit by a hard CC while casting. He is supposed to be immune to CCs during his ultimate, so I imagine HiRez will address this issue in a patch.

Tactics and Engagements

Tsukuyomi players need to have a plan when engaging and enemy. Just jumping in to lend a hand could actually be detrimental to your team if you don't think ahead about how to escape after securing a kill or two. Remember, as an assassin, your goal is to be a finisher. If you can confidently pick off a god, then do NOT HESITATE!
Typical engagements go as follows:

  • You see one of your teammates start something they can't quite finish.
  • You lock eyes with this enemy god, and you see fear come over their expression.
  • The assault begins with a Dark Moon Shuriken toss, right on them. Follow up with the basic and close this gap, stealing their movement speed and making it YOURS.
  • Follow up with a Kusarigama, making sure to land the final strike in the line on your target. If you miss, they'll have taken damage and be disarmed at the very least.
  • At this point, they'll be stunned, you can either lay down the caltrops to ensure they take damage if they run, or just follow up with some basics. Kusarigama hits so hard, they may not even live the onslaught.
  • If needed, you can hit them with another Dark Moon Shuriken as they run away, if they live your attacks the first time. Remember, cooldown decreases when you retrieve the Shuriken.
I typically use the Ultimate to start a team fight, especially if all of my allies are close by and the enemies are grouped up. The Ult can also pick off a single god, but it's way more effective to at least bounce between two targets like a ping pong ball. The initial beams do a lot of damage and can be used similar to a Ra Ult to get a snipe on a god at very low health, but then take advantage of the remaining beams and target your next victim.
After launching an Ultimate, I typically do as follows:
  • Hit at least a couple of gods with Piercing Moonlight and end the dashes on the god I want to eliminate first.
  • Immediately after the Ult, I launch into Kusarigama to stun the target I've landed on.
  • While they're stunned, I'll drop Silver Moon Caltrops at our feet and launch the basic attack.
  • If Dark Moon Shuriken doesn't finish the job, then the next ranged basic attack sure will.
Keep in mind that Tsukuyomi has no dashes (aside from the Ultimate), meaning if you do not finish the god off, you are in jeopardy of getting clapped first. Tsukuyomi's biggest threats come from gods who rush him and close the gap first, like warriors and other faster assassins.

Conclusion

Tsukuyomi is definitely a forced to be reckoned with, even after his inevitable nerf. The entire kit is unique for an assassin, giving him ranged basics that are sure to finish off anyone limping away from a fight. Piercing Moonlight can launch you between enemies like a rocket, leaving behind death and destruction in your wake (and a high assist score). Dropping caltrops when enemies are pursuing or running allows you to gain ground, potentially saving your own life or ending another.
All in all, Tsukuyomi may not be the ninja we needed, but definitely the ninja we deserve.
