Hi there guys and welcome to the new Tyr's patch Freya guide!
First of all: let us explain who is Freya (NOW):
Freya isn't an hybrid god anymore, but don't worry, things are going to get better, because she is still awesome, you just need to learn how to play her now (she hasn't changed a lot by the way, no more physical build, but if you were using a magical one, then don't worry, you'll be fine!).
Why am i making this guide?
Because i see a lot of Freya's players in game that still use a physical build (and die easily, without giving a shot to kill an enemy god), but the meanly reason is that i love my build and i wanna share it with all of you and see your comments.
Oh, if you have bad-comments and suggestions, please leave your ideas in a comment but in the most polite way, thank you.
Do you wanna know something on Freya's history?
Here: Your text to link here...
Well let's get start, thank you for reading!
So, this guide (at least the first build) is concentrate on a massive damage dealer that cannot be attacked, that's because you will slain the enemies first.
Let us divide the guide in two parts:
FULL DAMAGE BUILD:
Q: what's the point of this build?
A: to slain an enemy before he does, the best offense ---> the best defense!
Q: how?
A: picking up the right items at the right moment! I'll explain it better: i've always wondered "What does make Freja strong enough to kill her enemies?", well, i've found the answer! Her attack speed, yes, it must be it, because when you active Pulse you have a short time to shot your magical balls, but if you have more attack speed, you will shoot more of them and increasing attack speed, decreases the amount of time\chance which the enemy has to avoid your attack.
Q: so is attack speed all?
A: nope, you need to damage as well, here, i'll teach you a trick, if you active Irradiate and Pulse togheter you will notice your damage increasing, YES, because Irradiate will be used as a buff to increase your magical power when you use Pulse, useful isn't it? So we need to get some useful magical power focused items.
Of course another point goes to her huge lifesteal's passive bonus and to some cooldown reduction's item, but this last one isn't really necessary.
I'll explain why to pick up an item and which item we must pick in the items section of the guide of course.
Q: why do you have Fatalis?
A: i know, there are a lot of people who don't like this item, but now, now as ever, it is an important item, i'll explain you why later (Items Section).
MORE SURVABILITY BUILD:
Q: so, how about this build?
A: there is not so much to say about it, if you are in trouble because your allies don't come in your help or you are all alone or "JESUS THAT HURTED ME A LOT" if you say this phrase, then you should try this one, BUT! But i surely suggest you to pick the full damage build in any case, the only case which needs the help of this defense build is the case where you are hurted so much that you need to be more careful.
PROS:
-Very Large Damage-Amount!
-Very Agile! (Due to fatalis);
-Can face multiple enemies in one fight-stance (Thanks to Banish and damage-output);
-Can tower dive easily!
-Nice Crowd Controls!
CONS:
-Squishy;
-Her Banish can damage the team if bad-used;
-Low defense or not so moderate;
-Does not cooperate well with some gods.
CONQUEST:
Q:It is better to stay in lane or to jungle?
A:I always prefere lanes! Why? Well if you jungle, you leave your team-mate alone, it is true that you can organize an ambush to the enemies, but you are Freya, remember it, you are squishy in the early game and you are money dependant, if you want, you can try jungle, but i would suggest to do not do so.
I'm not a pro in jungle mode anyway, if you find it more accurate, you can always try it, but i prefere to use someone like Bakasura for those things.
LANE GAME:
Easy! Just stay near your ally, if he is a tank, you won, you must wait for the enemy to be under tower or alone or somehow in a good-range and then Banish him, activate Irradiate and Pulse and kill him (the tank will surely take care of the other enemies or you will destroy them too, ahah), remember to use your ultimate to evade in dangerous fights or to finish your enemies in easy ones, or to tower dive (i would not suggest that if the enemy is already a little far, but you are free to risk).
Against minions you can use just Irradiate if they are close or just Pulse, if you are missing a lot of life, combine the two skills and take a lot of life from the minions with your magical lifesteal (or VVB - Retun to base instead of staying there to waste mana).
JUNGLE GAME:
Use Hand of the Gods to kill monsters fast, eliminate them activating Irradiate and Pulse, watch always your mana, carefull to your life, take the mana buff at the beginning and the attack speed one later, in the late game i would suggest you to take the take the damage one with the fire giant's buff too.
When you are lv5 go to your missing ally lane and say "SURPRISE MADAFAKA" to your enemies by banishing them and hitting them hard with Irradiate and Pulse, remember to use your ultimate too.
Even if Freya takes in the roles list the name of ASSASSIN\MAGE, she is not so good as jungler, but she can be a very good damage dealer that jungling will give an help to allies to get an easy kill, so kill = assist = gold! (Gold = fast build construction).
DOMINATION:
(I won't divide this match in sequences and i'll give you just tips, because i usually go where my allies need help, you must kick the enemies *** and dominate obelisks, that's all, defending is a risky, but not so bad choice with Freya).
This mode will be erased in the next patches, but i will give you some suggestions about it:
let's say the truth, Freya here is GOD (well she is a god), she can pick up kills like apples from a tree, especially if you have a nice group, she can move fast because of Fatalis, so she can help all the three lines in any case.
Freya is also good in defending (but not as good as a tank, remember that she is still a damage dealer, she hasn't a lot of survability), when an enemy put a step in your circle of the sand-guardian you can Banish him, so he will be hitted by the sand-guardian, but i suggest you to leave the defense to a tank guy, we have another job here, to help and dominate any pillar, in fact we are the damage dealer for excellence in here!
When you are in group and you need to defeat the fire guardian, leave him to your allies, you need just to banish who is attacking you and your allies and killing who isn't banished, it is really easy. Remember to start with some potions, since you need to stay in the circle in order to protect\dominate it. I don't really like this mode, but you will find it very easy.
REMEMBER: if an enemy is escaping:
1)if you have an allie who can surely protect your obelisk, then go and kill the escaping enemy with your Valkyrie's Discretion;
2)if not, stay there, he will return and you will have your revenge;
3)if you are conquesting an obelisk, do not follow the escaping enemy, the first thing is to capture the circle, then you can try.
Eliminating minions is always a key to win ( Pulse), in fact eliminating the enemy's one will grant you the chance to enter in the enemy circle without being killed by the guardian, so DON'T HIT THE GUARDIAN, kill your enemy and exit from the circle, then re-enter and conquest it, in any case, if there is an ally with, YOU FREYA, leave him the guardian, eliminate fast the enemies and then the guardian too, with your attack speed should be easy ((remember always your Valkyrie's Discretion if you can't exit from the circle).
The key to win here is: DO NOT RUSH IF YOU DO KNOW THAT THEY CAN KICK YOUR *** ( you can cost points to your allies ), wait for someone to help you in the early game, in the late one you will rock.
The formation that Freya can pick easily is a double one:
2-3 (freya + god - godx3)
You can stay with a tank to protect yourself but you are the damage dealer, never forget that, take the kills and buy items.
3vs3:
Do you really need a guide for a match like this?
Very well: in the beginning remember to take the mana buff, it is vital to you if you have\don't have meditation, in any case you will need it, you can ask help to the other members of the party, it is always useful if you are in charge as a clear lane character (Otherwise you can always pick up the speed buff).
In the early game: wait to take the skill Banish and then use it immobilize the tank or the best damage dealer in the other group, do this if your allies are near your banishing circle, then as always Irradiate + Pulse = pew pew mode, you will surely get a kill.
In the mid game: you should be already strong, i would suggest you to pick a protection, like the Wall of Absolution \ Void Stone after the Fatalis, so you won't take too much damage and you will have the chance to win a 2vs1 fight (in which you are the one).
In the late game: well, did you take the Rod of Tahuti? Then you are going to smash your enemies and if you get Spear of the Magus, you will be able to slain the enemy tank (if they have one) all alone.
TIPS: during the early game, stay under tower, you can easily get a kill with Banish your enemies when they are under your tower; the only one who can kick your *** is Chang'e, since she will heal the other party members, but don't worry, you must eliminate her first, remember to use Valkyrie's Discretion just after she had used her dodging ability; remember to take attack or attack speed buff sometime; rushing against towers\phoenix\minoutar is a good idea in the late game, because you will have a lot of magical power and attack speed, it should take you like less then 5 seconds to put down a tower (i personally put down the minoutar all alone).
1vs1:
THE EASIEST!
Who is your enemy? NO ONE CARES! Because you will take nice defense items against him and you will still have a nice damage!
How? Simple!
Early game: take the mana buff, as always, i would start with Vampiric Shroud, it gives you a nice defense, then Shoes of Focus, then Demonic Grip. Stay always under tower, same banish trick as in the other matches (while the enemy are in Banish, activate Irradiate and Pulse, it is good to do this if the enemy is under your tower, your magical lifesteal will give you resistance to the enemy's minions attacks). Get some kills and buy Fatalis.
Mid\Late game: remember to take some buffs: attack speed \ attack one. So, what's the enemy? Physical? Take Wall of Absolution + Breastplate of Valor as 4th and 5th items, then Rod of Tahuti or the new item, that should be really good, the SOUL REAVER, because you can hit harder in a smallest time and you won't need to shot so many Pulse's balls.
If you can do this **** in 3vs3, then here should be a piece of cake!
ASSAULT:
If you are lucky, Freya will be your god in assault, but don't be so happy, she has some troubles in this mode.
Early game: you need to be more carefull, you are a god that hasn't a lot of defense, so starting with Vampiric Shroud is a good choice, because you will have sometimes to fly over 5 enemies, it will give you more chances to survive. Next: Shoes of Focus, the cooldown reduction is a fine choice in this case, because when your allies attack, they need your support and you must be ready to use your skills. Banish will be your only weapon to save your allies from a certain death, there you will be just like a support, if you see that the things are getting hot, use it and escape, this is still early game, you do not need to be killed now for gaining max 1 or 2 kills, that's a kamikaze's attack.
Mid game: if you haven't take Fatalis after 8 minutes, do it in any case, you need to move faster then you can, you must chase your enemies and retreat instantly, remember that in this case (chasing or evading) Valkyrie's Discretion will come in help many times and grant you a kill or two with an escaping chance. A good item choice should be the Bancroft's Talon to have more magical lifesteal and Spear of the Magus to gain penetration and killing fast, i really suggest you this last item.
Late game: road of tahuti, is your solution, this will grant you the chance to do a lot of damage and it will give to your party the chance to kill your enemies after that you smashed them, remember: assist are always a good thing, the party will take money and the other party members will be stronger then before, i'm afraid to say that here you can't stay alone versus 5 enemies, you surely know it, you must stay near your team, Banish when you get troubles or you need a fast kill and Pulse if you need to damage the enemies.
Suggestion: in this type of match, to being useful is more important then to do kills and be cool, you can get 30 kills and 0 deaths, but no one says that the enemies can't win, it's all a cooperate game. If you miss some kills don't worry, the winning price of a good cooperation will give you a winning match, i assure that.
ARENA:
It isn't so different from assault and you don't need a lot of defense, i won't divide it in early\mid\late game, i don't need it, the suggestions are always the same:
Banish to help allies and to take kills;
Valkyrie's Discretion for evading death or killing chance;
Purification Beads against Ares;
meditation can be useful but i suggest you Girdle of Might (i don't really like sprint because i usually use the Fatalis, but you can always try it, in my opinion it is better to spend 2000 gold in order to have attack speed too, but Freya can be played as you want, you must build yours, mine is just a guide \\ i don't like Shard either, i take it sometimes, i must admit it, but it doesn't come in help, i prefere Hide of Leviathan as a 5th item);
cooperating is always, if you want kills;
when you see minions, destroy them with Pulse, you will gain life from your passive and you'll create a distance between your team's score and the enemies's one;
Vampiric Shroud can be good, but starting with Shoes of Focus is good enough too, if you are a nice player, you won't need Vampiric Shroud;
buffs are not so useful here;
you can have troubles with Zeus, but your allies teamwork will shout him down, if not, the normal combo of Banishing him + Irradiate and Pulse should work, i always kill him before he can use 2 skills (remember to take a certain distance from him, if he hits you 3 times, he will stun you, so Banish + Valkyrie's Discretion can be a nice combo to finish him off before being hitted);
tower dive with your ulti, when a piece of **** is going to return to his base.
That's all, no more, no less, you only need to get some core items: Polynomicon + Fatalis + Demonic Grip + Rod of Tahuti ( Shoes of Focus too obviously).
VVGL - Good Luck!
ARENA DESTRUCTION BUILD (TRY THIS OUT):
EDIT: due to my past experiences i added a new arena type build that is more suitable for person who likes to strike in the early\mid game time. I really suggest you to try that out if you are against squishy or not so tanky gods. It is NOT an experiment, it really works and i think this is better for people who knows how to use Freya (if you are here, you don't clearly know how to use her, in my opinion, since it is not an hard character).
First Fatalis , it will give you a base movement speed + some attack speed, if there are not so much tanky gods in the enemy team, you won't need magical penetration in the beginning.
Then Shoes of Focus (Or the other type is good too, you can choose either cooldown reduction or penetration), you will need mana and extra movement speed to follow enemies due to the Fatalis bonus passive speed.
Take the Bancroft's Talon for useful magical power (100, you know) and the passive is great, it perfectly meets Freya's passive, do we really want to talk about the lifesteal? We will when you'll have Polynomicon item, that's because you'll heal yourself as you never did. (The passive of this item has been nerfed , but still, its is a great item, core one).
Last but not least pick those items: Demonic Grip ( penetration + attack speed , thanks this item for your next kills, thanks its passive ) Rod of Tahuti (Well nothing to say here, look, it will give you a mp5 bump, but still, the magical power bump will be your ace).
That's all.
So let us explain the skills:
Freya's basic attack's magical damage is increased, just keep this in mind, you don't need to know anything else. This skill can be used to finish with basic attacks an enemy who cannot escape with any dash or he has all of his skills in cooldown, it is a great choice to defeat minions with it and it will help you in destroying enemies's towers. (With the post tyr's patch, now it deals more damages).
Freya's change his basic attack's range to a distance-ranged one! AWESOME! It also gives you a lot of magical power's damage on the enemies and it slows your enemies as well, but try to immagine it while using Irradiate buff, you will deal a large amount of damage, BUT you will consume a lot of mana, keep it in mind, in fact, i suggest you to use just Pulse if you want to eliminate minion's, jungle's monsters, fire giant, gold fury or towers and to use both the skills togheter just against an enemy god. That's not all, Pulse will deal damage to nearby enemies too when hitting one of them, in fact it is a good idea to eliminate minions at a great distance with it. (With the post tyr's patch, now it deals more damages).
This is a skill that will block your enemies (yes, plural) actions for a small amount of time, but you will not be able to hit them while under this skill's effect. This is an handfull skill that i use when the enemy is actually running away, so i can stop him, activing Irradiate and Pulse while they are under Banish effect and then kill them with basic attacks. Naturally it can be used wrong, for example, if your enemie is already in the range of an ally who can surely eliminate him, DON'T BANISH HIM, that's because your ally won't be able to hit the enemy for the time which the enemy is under Banish effect! So you will give to the enemy the chance to recover his skills cooldowns and then escape using of them. VCC - BE CAREFULL!
This is Freya's ultimate skill and it is awesome, Freya flies in the air and cannot be hitted by any enemy (except Zeus and Loki, with some skills) and she will shot exactly 4 balls full of magical power to a really ranged distance! This is awesome, why? You can tower dive easily, you can finish an enemy who is running at a large distance (if you cannot catch him with Banish) and you can always escape from a large amount of damage and give to the enemies 4 shots before to disappear! Muahahahahah! (Remember to use Irradiate first, before to use the ultimate, so you will be able to hit harder!) Oh, almost forgot! You have a limited time in which you can fly, i don't know how much it is, but it is less of 5 seconds, so SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT AND ESCAPE\CHASE!
Freya's PASSIVE has been changed now! Now it gives you 15% of magical lifesteal to all of your abilities, that mean that using Irradiate + Pulse will give you a larger amount of lifesteal instead of using just one skill, really helpful.
REMEMBER: after this patch the magical lifesteal from your skills (except the passive) has been removed! So do not thing to have a large magical lifesteal, but it is still good.
Let me explain the items:
Well, i prefere cooldown reduction's shoes, since you will be able to use always Pulse and Irradiate when their effects will be expired. (1st item)
This is a core item, you will increase attack speed + magical attack, what do you want more than that? His side effect is powerfull too: your basic attacks will reduce your enemies magical protection! AWESOME and it is a stack-effect! (2nd item)
Why do you need this item if you already have the Demonic Grip? Because you will have your movement speed increased, in order to chase the enemies and you can run while running backstep without loosing speed! Your attack speed will be insane too, PEW PEW MADAFAKA, that's what you will say often, it is really a great item, sometimes i finish the game without purchasing a ****, just this item and the Demonic Grip,that's because the really power of Freya is her attack speed. (3rd item)
This item is a core one, why? It will duplicate your next basic damage after activating an ability, so double first hit after Pulse or Irradiate, useful hu? POWEFULL!!! You will eliminate the enemies in no time. (4th item)
With the last patch the effect of the item is totally magical, even the physical damage has been turned magical, so no worries about it, it is really useful. (Of course, the double effect it is actived after Banish or Valkyrie's Discretion too).
Well, do you need some sort of explanation? It will grant you a large amount of damage, be sure about it. (6th item)
OTHER ITEMS:
warlock's sash This item provides you with magical power, but still, you need to replace an early game item in order to unlock his full-potential effect, that's because you need minion's kill, i'd suggest it just in case you miss some magical power, not a key\core item though.
It gives you cooldown reduction, still not a great item for Freya, pick it up if you choose to go with Shoes of the Magi, because you will lack in cooldown reduction. Still this would waste your build, because you will need cooldown reduction since the early-game, great suggestion in replacing it with Shoes of Focus.
You can pick this as 5th item, you will slow your enemies more then before thanks to Pulse too and you will have more mana and magical power
(Still not really needed).
This is a very useful item since it will give you a lot of magical power and lifesteal, so you won't need to return in base to charge your health and you will face the enemies without fearing to loose too much health, use it
just if you have to build a lifesteal emergency build, before building the Polynomicon, build this, it will sustain you to life.
Oh noes! There is a tank! DON'T WORRY, you are Freya! With this item, if you could not defeat an enemy's tank, now you will DESTROY him! It gives you a lot of magical penetration, so it is a very useful item.
The Soul Reaver is the new item introduced with Tyr's patch, i would recommend you to take it instead of Rod of Tahuti if you are going to take the defense build, why? Because if you do not have a large amount of damage, with the defensive build, then you really need that 15% of health-lost on the enemy. Really useful if you wanna finish the enemy with a stroke of luck or just giving them no possibility to escape, it does 15% of enemy's health damage every 60 seconds, so it can come in handly, it gives you 300 mana and 100 magical power and it costs 3100 gold, 6th item in build.
DEFENSE ITEMS:
This item can be used as a substitute of the Demonic Grip or Fatalis, the possible combinations can be considered as: Fatalis+ Telkhines Ring=more survability of course, thanks to the magical protection and you'll deal more damage with the Telkhines Ring effects, but in any case you'll lose a 15% of attack speed, that's not a lot, still it's a bit. So, take it just in case you are going to fight against magical power-based gods, if you feel you can't do it without any defensive item; otherwise you can have try with (i do not recommend this one) Demonic Grip+ Telkhines Ring= You lose a lot of attack speed and movement one, that's not really nice, because Freya must be fast in all the ways she moves, yet you'll have more protection but, in my honestly opinion, more movement speed is more avoiding-chance chance and more avoiding-attack chance is safier than 30 magical protection buff (Early game useful item).
Why do i call this item a defense one? It gives you more survability at the beginning, i surely suggest you to take it as your first slot and then replace it later (First item in defensive build).
Really great item, it gives you a lot of physical defense avoiding you some basic attacks and giving you magical power too, good one (Mid\Early-game item).
Really good item, it gives you mana, physical protection and COOLDOWN REDUCTION! Core item in defense build, in my case (Mid\Early-game item).
It gives you magical protection and magical penetration\power, nice if you wanna to have magical defense without loosing damage! (Decide yourself when to pick it up, but i'd recommend to do it in the mid-game).
I take it very rarely, but when i do it, the other team fatigue to defeat me, that's because of the huge health + magical protection add, it's done, now you need just to add some magical power(4th\5th build-item).
If you don't want to take the Focused Void Stone and the Wall of Absolution you can pick just this item, it is complete: health + mana + physical\magical protection, reeally a great item (Mid-game useful stuff).
ACTIVE ITEMS:
meditation Yes, you will lack mana at the beginning, but you will have this with you, so it is a great help, but i would not suggest to take it just at rank-1, it's wasted.
It is useful if you wanna escape from enemies's ultimate or attacks (like the Ares one).
This one does the same effect of Purification Beads but still it is enhanced, since it will protect you from being damaged.
Useful if you wanna take jungle buffs at the beginning or just eliminating minions fast.
Cool one, it grants you a large amount of damage when you need it, i do often take red\attack camp-buff too, that fits really well with this item effect.
So, what do i take? I really suggest you to take Aegis Amulet or Purification Beads+hand of gods or, in the case that you are confident in your skills, then you can surely choose Girdle of Might, but if you want more survability then, i'd pick up meditation rank-3, so Salvation is ok too.
I really thank you all of you who will comment or read this guide and find it useful.
Also i would ask politely to vote my build as good or bad, i don't care about the result, but i wanna see a result!
Leaving a comment will give me the way to hear your opinions, it would be great.
And a facebook Like is always good to see!
Thank you!
Best regards,
Aigis (IGN: Aigis93).

Gem is pointless. To get the max out of polinomicon you activate pulse, hit them once to use the poly charge, you activate irradiate, and melt their face. Your pulse slows them for the 25%, making gem absolutely pointless. I personally don't like fatalis either, why chase them when you can just levitate them. replace gem with spear of magus, and replace fatalis with a defense and you have the freya god build. Drop tanks in 6 pom poms and everyone else in 2-3.
I totally agree, in fact i also suggested spear of magus as a replace of gem, but still, i'm not very skilled, so i prefere to be sure to slow them down, banish can fail easily tho. It's just a matter of what do you prefere. I personally like this combination and i'll play with this one. Spear is a good time in any case, i do take it a lot of time.
I am trying this build out now, the guide was well written. Good job and thanks
Thank you very much, hope it helps!
I'm new to smite and I was wondering what the best time was to buy your actives?
The actives must be bought at the beginning of the match, if possible, or in the early game.
I have been using the same build for months now. Nice to see a well written in depth guide that confirms this for everyone to see. up vote for you!
I really thank you :)
ADDED A SECTION THAT WILL EXPLAIN HOW DID I CHECKED THIS OUT AND WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO GEMS.
@holmzie Polynomicon is usefull instead. Once you active Pulse or Irradiate the "balls" that you shoot will be counted as basic attacks, so the effect is:
-active Pulse
-next basic attack (ball), so the first ball that you shoot, will have an increased damage.
(Oh and the polynomicon is a magical item, so your point is wrong in any case)
By the way i know where you are confusing: the polynomicon as 100% of magical power as physical damage to your next basic attack (a ball if you actived Pulse), so, even if your skill is pure magical, you will hit for half of the damage physical! So your enemy must have physical and magical defense to avoid that and it is really difficult to have both the defense if he isn't a tank character, so if he want to eliminate the Polynomicon effect, he needs to decrease his attack to increase his defense, that's your point to win, because Freya will rock him in any chance.
ADDED A BETTER DESCRIPTION FOR POLYNOMICON (so there will be no mistakes :))
@SanityForge, now you should be able to see it.
Oh and i remind all of you to vote the build please >_<, thank you! It was an hard work for me to put it up.
