This is my first build, and so I decided to show an unexplored way to use a character that has worked reasonably well for me. As I am a noob, I am sure he will be better used in your hands. This Guan Yu build focuses on reducing cooldown time to a minimum.
Even if you ADORE this build, I do not need friend requests. But thanks anyway.
EDIT: This build works like a charm on Conquest. Just don't get carried away.
EDIT: This build works decently well on Arena.
The goal of your life as Guan Yu is to have zero cooldown and major mana. So, to accomplish this, you get all of the cooldown-reducing items as fast as possible. And, it just so happens that almost every item that reduces cooldown adds mana as well, so we don't sacrifice (much) mana for our cooldown spam.
Still, despite the temptation to start early, boots first: for speed, go with Boots of Celerity. If you want more mana, at the cost of speed, go with your standard Boots of the Magi.
The order I chose for the cooldowns was Chrono's Pendant>>Fatalis>>Jotunn's Wrath>>Breastplate of Valor, just because it seemed to me to be the best order for balance. If you are considering pumping out max damage early, then move the Fatalis and the Jotunn's Wrath up in your list. Whatever you do, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TANK. It does not work well, despite the BoV adding a bunch of protection. You are not Ymir. Don't try to be.
This build will drive people like Bakasura absolutely NUTS, because they are the ones supposed to be dealing massive damage, but with your cooldown reduction, where they use a normal attack, you use an ability, and thus they have no chance (usually).
Pros:
As fits a spam character, your first goal is to have 0 cooldown time if possible. Early in the game, you have no cooldown passives, so you need the white camp early. If the Red camp is open too, so much the better, but really the white one is the key.
Later in the game, when you have 1/5 of your original cooldown time, don't bother with white. Go green and yellow if you can, and get the tanking capability, even if it's only for a short while. Remember to always stay close to allies early, so if you need a quick cooldown reduction, you can go with your TG and reduce cooldowns in a pinch.
Other than that, just spam. Troll. Annoy the enemy. Win. That simple.
Looking back over what you see here, can you:

I have found that, at least for me, Guan Yu has no max cooldown reduction, so I can get my ult off of cooldown with 2 heals and 2 dashes, as long as my dashes and heals get the cooldown reduction.
Good luck using it!
