After a bit of a break from Smite, I'm back and playing loads of Conquest now. This build absolutely provides the best combination of damage and utility for Hera and her team. I find Hera to be a rather simple god to be extremely effective within any fight. She has good damage and can be a good source of CC as well.
I'll explain the build, her kit, and how to play her in the next few chapters.
Mages blessing is pretty standard for any mage mid lane. The bonus power and ability damage help with early clear, the bonus mp5 helps you stay in lane, and once evolved the cooldown gives you the ability to have all your kit up quicker.
Lost Artifact is my recommended item to start with. The power and mp5 help in the same way they do as mentioned in the mages blessing section. Do not build lost artifact into Chronos' Pendant until you build the boots. The artifact gives a stronger early lane than 6% movement speed does.
Shoes of Focus- Cooldown is pretty huge on Hera. Spamming Argus and polymorph is more effective than life stealing 8%.
Chronos' Pendant- Power, cdr, and mp5. Major power spike as Hera now has damage up very fast has her shield and can cast Argus all the time.
Charon's Coin- Pen. Passive. Power.
Doom Orb- Just really powerful right now. A lot of power and movement helps a ton.
Soul Gem- At this point, you can sell your blessing for Soul Gem. I would recommend buying t2 of soul gem first and then selling your blessing to buy the full item. Power helps damage. Health gives a smidge more survivability. Lifesteal for small sustain. CDR for reasons mentioned prior. And the passive isn't bad either for extra damage and sustain.
Soul Reaver- This will do work late game for damage. Percent pen is really nice. The % damage is just really nice.
Spear of Desolation- Keeps you at full CDR after selling mages blessing. Power, pen, cdr all good. The passive stack so well with Chronos' and Hera Passive to keep your abilities up.
Divine Ruin- Good power and flat pen. Mostly for the anti heal if the enemy team has decent healing. If you're not sure you need it, buy it. If the enemy team doesn't heal then don't buy it.
I do want to list some items that do not work on Hera. I prefer to use items that benefit Hera and Argus. Rod of Tahuti passive does not work on Argus, but will work on Hera. Gem of Isolation- Same as RoT. Staff of Myrddin- This item used to proc when Argus was cast but it got changed to work when Argus runs out of time or dies. I find a second ability when Argus dies is not very useful as Argus is meant to be used aggressively. I do go into more detail on this in the next chapter.
Rod of Tahuti- This does not work on Argus and I don't think the damage is more worth the other item I have listed.
Gem of Isolation- Polymorph slows and Argus can slow. I don't think an extra 20% slow for 1 second is better than the recommended items. Especially since Argus can't pro the slow. The health and ccr added on just aren't enough.
Book of Thoth- Book is a good item on some mages but I don't like using it since it's passive works from mana from items and Hera doesn't build any of those items that come with mana.
Book of the Dead- 100 power or better from other items. The passive is just kinda weak. Hera doesn't want to proc the shield and already has her own shield. Other items are more useful.
Bancroft's Talon- Sure this is a great item but not the BEST for Hera. The power is very nice and life steal, though not super useful, can be nice but I feel as if everything else just does more for Hera.
Warlock's Staff- Health and mana not necessary for Hera. Other items give more power or better stats/ passives.
A brief note on level sequence- RA assault has more damage and better cooldown than polymorph so always start RA. Level 3 you can choose to go shield instead of polymorph but you shouldn't need it. The damage for your clear is too good. Only buy shield if your life is in that much danger that early. However, you do want your whole kit up by level 4. The shield is a big deal for Argus so make sure you have it.
Commanding Presence (Hera Passive)- Hit enemies while Argus is on cooldown to reduce his cooldown and the Divine Shroud (Shield) cooldown. The Argus heal can be important but it's also important to just hit enemies anyways.
Royal Assault- This ability is weird at first. The semicircle in front of Hera does damage and knocks back minions (this does not knock back gods or other pets) to the rectangle. The big damage comes from the fists (rectangle area) Learn the casting times. Cast this ability directly on yourself when you get jumped on by a melee god.
Polymorph- A line ability that does good damage, slows, and CC's. Has a small wind up time but once you get used to the timing it's easy to use. Use it in fights to completely shut down your enemy.
Divine Shroud- Gives Hera and shield and movement speed buff. Her semi-escape tool/ attack tool.
ARGUS, THE DEFENDER- Hera's combo piece. Drops down Argus from orbit to absolutely ruin the game for your enemy. Damage and a knock up. With a pet that can lock down an enemy team. Use divine shroud to create an area of tick damage around Argus and makes him FAST AS FRICK BOI. On top of all of that, Argus can freaking SLOW in his hit chain.
COMBO- Drop Argus, Divine Shourd, Polymorph, and then clean up with RA.
Argus for Argus, Divine shroud for AOE tick, poly for cc and damage, and RA for killing blow.
Argu- I mean Hera can win a team fight if played right. Aim for their damage and end them with Argus, stop their damage with polymorph, and then kill the tanks because who says you can't?
Peel for your team with Argus and polymorph.
Tank towers with Argus.
Drop big boy and win pretty much. Name of the game is hitting level 5. RA for damage. Poly for CC and damage. Shield for Argus damage and as an escape tool. Argus to win the game. Hera is very good when used right and the most important way to learn her is not reading my guide. PLAY HERA TO LEARN HER. She's my favorite god in Smite as of now and it's for a good reason. Almost anytime I play her I can carry my team.
If you are in a team with a Hera please help her stay alive and farmed. She can easily carry a team to victory when played and supported right.
Play as a team. Don't be greedy. Make the enemy team fear Hera.

Edit: Nevermind Hi Rez changed it.
Also normally you finish casting you ability when you can AA or use another spell again.
EDIT: it depends if the item passive activates "on cast" or "on CD" of an ability. I'm assuming the first for hera otherwise it's worthless.
The item procs after the summon (aka spawning argus). It won't proc when you use it to control the summon. Which can be seen as working as intended cause moving it won;t have her cast an ability.
Dev, there are nicer, less passive-aggressive ways of expressing your opinion. Is everything ok? I usually don't see this kind of response from you.
If you reread my comment you would have seen I did get why you put the comment as I did note that hera is one of those gods with an unique ult by having it be a summon.
This sorta makes me curious on how it interacts with The Morrigan (does it proc on god form or after you return to normal) and peopel like Ao Kuang ( Sun Wukong) where the ult has an initial and a second cast.
But I bet that it procs in the first cast
that would suck as this will have the 10 second window ticking during the time you decide where to land (or the landing eating it)
Ao Kuang can't abuse this item, i think, since it would cost the second damaging part of his ultimate as the damaging ability. Pretty sad.
Yes the build lacks penetration and penetration is super important to be able to fight EARLY and MID game teamfights against tanky characters. Obsidian Shard its fine but its not flat
