Lets get the Pro's and Cons done now so you understand how and why this guide works.
Pro's
Overkill Burst Damage
Good Escapes
Can Snowball like the Plague
Cons
Needs a Decent Amount of Farm
Squishy like you can never Believe
Firstly throw out any ideas you have that Loki is a Carry, there are a lot of the standard carry builds for him and while they give him good attack speed/crit and dmg, there is a massive problem, he is very squishy and focused down in seconds.
So, this guide is how to maximize your initial burst damage, i will get exact numbers but from the last few nights, at end game im around 2000dmg in a single burst, excluding auto attacks/crits etc. and i will update this as i find better ways to increase the damage.
Please carefully read the teamwork section as well, this is very important, because if you dont i will think less of you as a player and a person.
I know right your all looking at me like im an idiot, wtf is this build order this doesnt look like a carry, good, your not a carry, your an assassin with a ridiculous burst dmg.
Warrior Tabi
These state of the art sneakers will grant you more damage, more penetration, speed and crit, nothing wrong with that.
Void Blade
This sexy little blade gives you a bit more protection which you damn well need, a good amount of extra damage and flat penetration. now the reasoning for getting flat penetration that is instantly applied over executioners style are armor breaking is that when loki engages, you want the enemy to be dead, you dont want to have to keep attacking him, because chances are he has more life then you will have...ever. you dont want sustain damage you want, dead enemies the moment you see them.
Hydras Lament
Its expensive i know BUT, Loki has one of the highest physical damage attributes in the game, the passive on this item gives you 125% physical damage after using a skill....125%!!!! 0_0 every 2 seconds! so guess what will activate when you ultimate on the enemy? yes this will, if your skills are spaced out you can even get it on the aimed strike to slow enemies and again on stealth, even throw out your second skill just to get the passive effect.
Jotunn's Wrath
This item has a history of being bad before the change and the icon alone makes me feel its worthless BUT its pretty decent now, in fact its damn good. gives more damage and a nice amaount, bit more mana, cause your mana pool is low, more flat penetration and the passive is cool down reduction which will put you 5% over the cap but everything will so dont worry about it, you now have max cd reduction meaning you can spam your skills more, which is great on a high burst god.
Death Bringer
Everyones fave item, it just gives damn nice damage passive is a high damage on crit, never a bad thing, but your building it for more damage.
Titans Bane
The item i see so many people building early game, dont ever do that, 33% in the early game is actually weaker then executioner, void, and just about everything else. BUT it is useful late game when people have more life and armor and that % based penetration can actually do damage, high damage and penetration. if the enemy have a a super tanky team switch this with death bringer and get death bringer last.
Creeping Curse:
Replaces the need for Frostbound Hammer, great to secure kills and chase enemies.
Girdle of Might:
Cant say no to extra damage for a few seconds right?
Purification Beads:
You can swap this out with the other 2 if the enemy has a Hades or Ares etc...
TEAM FIGHTS!
Rule number one! do not be a kill stealing douche, yes i know Loki can steal kills easily and should you do it? definitely not. why not? because your team needs to fed as well, they provide you with distractions/tanking/support and chances are you have another physical or mage carry, they need farm as well, you are not a one man army and team play contributes greatly to your snowballing. When you take everything and your team, your team might battle to initiate provide anything else which will lead to you being killed and if you were taking all the kills, be sure the enemy will look for and target you first.
So, how to be a awesome team player? Loki can take down carries and mages from full hp to dead in a matter of seconds, normally between 1-3 secs. late game you can also take down tanks in close to the same time.
EARLY GAME
Play safe when laning, you need to gauge how your late mate plays, is he aggressive or defensive? how much dps does he do? and is it enough for me to score a kill or will i die going in with him.
dont engage before level 6 as a general rule, this is so you have a escape from a bad situation. use stealth to escape where possible, if you cant, use your ulti as an escape.
when your partner goes in (preferably a bruiser) and you know you have a kill, use creeping curse, this will wreck players early game, creeping curse + aimed strikes slow are brutal.
IMPORTANT! i see too many players QQing about losing because they didnt take a tower...go drown yourself in a teacup if you think this. the 5% gold buff for towers was removed and now aside from the gold for breaking it you dont get a buff, SO, dont push it, its far easier to kill a enemy right at your tower than under theirs. tower taking can be done later when your AD carries are fed. If you lose your towers, its not the end of the world, rather give the enemy your tower than defend it and die. it means it forces you to the ganking stage of the game earlier, but the enemy will now have to come in deeper to fight.
MID GAME
GANK! when they are alone or if there are 2, you can kill 1 then run away, make sure though who they are, for example dont gank if you know you will be stunned and kill quickly after.
take jungle buffs, especially the red damage one and potentially speed.
LATE GAME:
there are 2 ways a team fight starts, the safe route is your initiator starts it, the absolute moment he goes in, you use your ultimate to get to their carry or mage and take him out instantly, this means significantly less dmg from the enemy team, their carry should be in the back thinking he is safe.
second way is (and only if your co-ordinated with your team) loki initiates on the enemy carry, DO NOT use your stealth skill when you go in, as you jump in, your team have to go in quickly, the enemy should have turned their attention to loki and your team should be able to get their stuns and dmg in safely. after you have killed the first target, use stealth, the enemy will turn their attention back to your team and during this time you can grab another enemy squishy to kill.
IMPORTANT! in both situations, do not jump in then abandon the fight because your ulti is down. do not stay to close in the fight though, you don't want to be blown up. use stealth to keep repositioning so you are safe and also to keep ganking. the low cd with this build means you can use your skills quite a few times.
ABILITIES in team fights! girdle of might, pop just before you ulti if you know you need more dmg. if you didn't use it, try pop it near your team. keep creeping curse for slowing fleeing enemies. you can also use creeping curse early to secure lane kills.
again, do not always go for the almost dead gods, that helps no one and padding your kd is for losers, dont be a loser, this god has so much damage its not needed.
JUNGLING!
unless your taking a buff mid game, do not do this! you lose too much lane exp jungling, you may do it situationally if your lane partner is a AD carry and doesn't need your help, then he can get independent farm, just make sure you dont fall behind.
IMPORTANT SKILL 2!
skill 2 is picked up late game because your not a farmer your an assassin and farming creeps over getting your sneaky skills is beneath you. however a lot of players fear this skill, use it to either drop in the middle of a team fight or enemies chasing you, or in front of enemies your chasing. just always assume people will not be hit with it, because of the long time to detonate. you can if you are good at microing, drop it on a enemy when you ulti on them, if you do this, and keep them in the blast, its a lot of extra dmg.
Play Safe
Dont Kill Steal
Take Out Carries and Mages First
Make Sure You Have Good Map Positioning
Please feel free to ask questions in the comments, also i know my color skills in the morning are on a whole new level xD I will also try clean up and summarize this as much as possible. Also if you want more Loki info specifically, let me know.

Very similar build to mine. I usually rush Jotunn's Wrath one item before Void Blade, though. Practically same thing, but instead of Deathbringer, I get the new Malice on him. Deathbringer I would get if I don't need pen.
And I would put a skill point in Loki's Decoy first, especially in conquest(Jungling or laning). Would suggest maxing Loki's Aimed Strike over his Vanish now. The only time I don't is when I'm doing a 3v3 Joust or Arena. gj +1 if you're still active on here
Any chance you could do a similar guide for Scylla? There aren't many and I think your writing style would benefit me greatly!
Hi Kaden have you looked into hide of nemean lion? Do you recommend using it?
In case this hasn't been answered yet, I'll go ahead and do so. There is no point in building Hide on an assassin, as he does not stay in the fight long enough for it to be used to its full potential. It gives a decent amount of physical protection, but as previously stated, Loki does not stay in the fight for any extended length of time. He is very much so hit and run, so you build him as a total glass cannon in most situations. Hope this helped :)
Needs an update, I won't vote.
Thanks! That's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure!
2nd query: Do you build your actives first or last?
Well depends on your opponent in lane or in general (in case you are playing arena). if you have a hard match-up in lane you will probably want to buy them at your first "B" or if you are afraid of team fight but you have an easy lane you can delay it a bit if finishing an item instead can be difference between getting an early kill in lane or not. Also if you are a mana hungry mage you might want to start with your meditate. It really depends on your team comp, play style, enemy comp, so on...
Very nice guide. I would put voidblade and jotuun as optional items but the rest of them are crucial for your dmg burst.
You should almost always build your items fully in SMITE before you start the next because of the bonus it gives, which sometimes is very important.
Thanks! That's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure!
