Odin is, personally, one of my favorite gods and one of the best in Smite. He is very versitile because he can be played in the solo lane or in the duo lane.
It's a good idea to start out with a mark, med, hog and 4 health pots when soloing with Odin. He has a very slow attack speed at the beginning of the game so you are going to have to use your 1 and 3 to clear the wave. Even with the blue buff, you are going to want to have med as a backup for when you need it.
Warrior Tabi: Unless the enemy team has a lot of CC or you are going to be more tanky for your team, get the warrior tabi for the att speed, pen and phys power.
Focused Voidblade: You're probably going to want to get this item next, unless your lane opponent is a magical damage dealer, then you would want to pick up a Shield of Regrwoth. This item gives you good phys. power and protections. Get the focused for the extra pen unless your team has a lot of phys, then a regular might be more useful.
Shield of Regrowth: Again, get this item at some point for the Hp5 and passive. This, combined with the passive from your 3 will give you some serious Hp5. I would say only get this before the voidblade if your lane opp is magical.
Ankh of the Bear: This item is a great pickup for Odin. It works well with the overall build and your passive. This gives you 50 phys protection from the voidblade, 55 from the ankh, and 30 from the passive on your 3, gives you 135 phys protections (not to mention your stat gains). 15% of this is 20 phys power. So, you get 20 phys power for building two defense items. Also this item gives a good chunk of health, which will come in handy later on in the game and with your Eye of Retaliation.
Executioner: This item is good mainly for the att. speed and the passive. The 30 phys power is greatly needed yes, but the passive (combined with the pen from the boots and the voidblade) will allow whatever phys power you have to be fairly close to true damage, espicially on the squishier characters. Also you will have some good att. speed particularly
when you have your 2 is active.
Eye of Retaliation: This item is quite useful for Odin because it gives you some lifesteal, which will help along with the your Hp5, and 50 phys power. This also gives you more phys power as you lose health (1 for every 2% missing). With this item you can get up to 350 phys power. Also you will get more lifesteal the lower your health is.
Passive: Birds of Wisdom
This passive really doesn't enough credit. It's actually quite good. Basically, all it does is double your mini-map vision. But, this can come in handy. First off, you can use it to see camps through walls or clear camps off the map. Also, if you clear the lane you can just scout out for a bit to make sure that they're no ganks coming your way. Also, in team fights, you can use this to check the jungle to make sure no enemies are coming in behind your team to pick off the squishies.
Ability 1: Lunge
This is basically your standard leap across the map. Use to jump over walls, catch up to fleeing enemies, retreat form enemies, initiate, and clear the minion wave.
Ability 2: Odin's Shout
This is an aoe buff that gives you, friendly gods, minions, and the minitaur an att. speed buff of up to 55%. Use it to help clear the wave and camps, deal extra damage on the tower, help in team fights, and just to do extra damage overall.
Ability 3: Gungir's Might
This is one of Odin's main core moves. It now hits two times, dealing more damage on the second hit and slowing by 50% on the first. Use this to clear the wave and camps, slow fleeing enemies....you know the drill by now. It's very useful move and is a main source
your damage.
Ability 4: Ring of Spears
This is Odin's most.....useful or terrible move, depending on how you use it. Now, before i go any further, anyone that can jump or fly (like Thor and Apollo's ults) CAN (and will) get out of it. But, for anyone that can't, is pretty much dead. When you activate this, you place down spears around you in a circle, which is impassable by movement and auto-attacks do not pass through either. You then gain phys power, protections and cc immunity. You also give the protection bonus to any friendlies in the rings with you. This is a great move for separating enemies from chasing down your teammates, or trapping fleeing enemies from escaping. Now, a HUGE thing about your ult, is that you can cancel it by hitting 4 again. If
you trap a friendly in the spears, and they are about to die, just cancel your ult. Saving your teammates is more important than getting a kill. Also, try and get some teammates in the ult in you if you are going to use it to get a kill. This ult is very useful for spliting up the enemy team and picking one or more enemies off. Also, you never want to have more than 2 people from either team in all at the same time. It will get to chaotic and it actually ends up not being as productive as you would think. Also, be careful of people that might ult in your ult, like Ymir's, Sobek's, Zeus's, and Hercules. In the end, just be wise when you use this ability, and letting it go down to save a teammate is better than maybe getting a kill.
Pros:
-Good sustain
-Soft CC
-Can be played in many different roles
-Good in teamfights if utilized properly
Cons:
-No hard CC
-Can't peal for teammates besides ult
-Ult can get friendlies killed
Solo Lane: This is probably my favorite lane to play Odin in. If you go with the first build, then you're going to be in pretty good shape. Remember to get certain items first or last depending on your lane opponent. Use your 1 and 3 (the "slam dunk" as some call it) to clear the wave, and HOG whenever you need to. Also use your HOG to clear jungle camps, primarily blue because you will be quite mana hungry, so don't get to crazy with the "slam dunking." Harass whenever you can and use a good trick to get a kill is to use your ult when you have the minion advantage, and then give them the att. speed buff. This also works well if the enemy is in tower range.
Duo Lane: This, is definitely my least favorite lane to play Odin in. You may want to consider maxing your 2 first to help out your laneing partner, and just be mindful of situations that you can take advantage of. Also, some of the tactics from the "Solo Lane" carry over.
Bruiser: This is what Odin was cut out for. With the bruiser build I gave you at the begining, you will have some good damage and control along with good survivability.
Tank Mode: This isn't (in my mind) what Odin was cut out for. He isn't a tank in my mind, but he can be built like one. The items I give you in the tank build are just some good ones to consider. You may need to take out the voidblade and shield or regrowth and replace them with say a mystical mark and bulwark, it really depends. Just play smart and support your team.
Super Damage Mode: This build really isn't all that viable to be honest. The only time I think you would ever do this is if the enemy team is very bad and you're getting fed a five course meal the entire match. Other than that, this isn't all that practical, sorry :)
Thank you for reading my guide, hopefully this will help you with playing Odin. Also, this is my first guide, so any constructive criticism would be gratefully appreciated. Also anything that any of you think I left out or should add please let me know! Have with Odin!
Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.
