Start this if youre building into doom orb after boots (Mid & ADC)
Pretty cookie cutter build, works in 9/10 games
Tap each threat level to view Poseidon’s threats
Divine Ruin / Toxic Blade: Fairly self-explanatory. Need antiheal? Buy antiheal! Divine if youre playing more caster style, toxic if youre sticking to their healer decently. Probably gets built before gem of iso, and pushes rod of tahuti back to your 7th item (sell boots for it)
Hastened: For fun really. Build it 5-6th item if youre winning and wanna just W key. Pushes rod back again.
Shard: You shouldnt really ever need this, but a mage build without shard mentioned anywhere just.. looks wrong? Maybe buy it before rod if they have like 3+ people capping magical protections.
Shamans Ring: Im undecided on this one. Its a good item, for sure, but I just cant quite fit it in the build anywhere that makes sense. Its a good item to sell boots for if you dont need any of the other situation items, though.
Mantle / Magis: Defense! Mad underrated on poseidon honestly. Magis really helps with your "daji/thor/whatever" problems, provided they dont have easy bubble popping gods on their team. Mantle is just a great all around defense item that will get you out of many situations that youd otherwise be very dead from.
Pros:
-Burst. Kraken can and will one hit anyone in it that doesnt have aegis or a LOT of defense come lategame. Heck, once you have 5-6 items a simple 3-2-auto-1 combo can one hit squishies.
-Mobility. Almost no other god can get across the map as fast as poseidon can once you have doom orb and your 2 maxed. Also great for chasing and escaping when combined with gem of iso on pools you can leave at your feet.
-Control. Loooong consistent slows with gem of iso allow you to set the pace of a teamfight, or at least the literal pace of their tank. If you can get the enemy support in the middle of a pool with your team around you, they should be dead before they can walk out of it. Combine that with your large stun / knockup and short cooldown knockups, and you can control a teamfight by yourself with proper ability management.
Cons:
No CC Immunity: See the "Threats" section. Getting daji ulted? Youre probably dead. Blink geb ulted? Good luck buddy!
No Immediate Mobility: Sure, youre fast to make long rotations, but will that help you with the vulcan ult youre sat dead in the middle of? Probably not.
My forte - and in my opinion Poseidons as well! I play an *** ton of poseidon solo so i can go into a lot more detail here than with mid or adc, but a lot of this can be applied to those roles too (for the record i dont rate poseidon jungle at all).
Poseidon wins lane. If you play poseidon right, no god should outpressure you unless youre getting super focused by their jungle or the enemy knows how to play the matchup super well (which not many people do). The most important part of the game for poseidon solo is levels 4-6, as at this point you should have backed for boots as soon as you can afford them, and you should be able to get a kill here unless the enemy laner plays super safe.
To try ensure this, you should spend levels 1-3 poking the enemy to force them to use their potions as fast as possible. the best way to do this is to not let them stack their blessing using your range advantage, while clearing by just dropping your 3-1 on the wave and getting out straight away. Now poke with AAS until you can 1 the wave again to full clear it, and box them while they try to clear your wave. Now back for boots, they should be almost out of pots, poke, hit 5, if possible instant ult and kill. Now you should have a comfortable lead, totem control, and your opponent is scared of you (Important in solo, if your opponent is scared of you they are less likely to capitalise on your small mistakes).
From here keep poking and ulting if you have kill potential. Your damage may well surprise you since you can get 2-3 free aas and your 1 off after your ult hits, youll learn your damage after a few games.
The reason Pythags is in the solo build and not the mid/adc one is poke and hp management is way more important in solo than mid. Health chalice + pythags + poseidon poke wins you the health economy game. Pythags > Bancrofts simply for CDR, as if you can ult more often than they can, you can kill easier while their ult is on cooldown.
POINT SKIPPING: This applies to all roles. Dont level anything at level 8, and at level 9 put a point into both whirlpool and kraken, this gives the best kill potential at this stage.
JORM! Poseidon EATS jormungandr like a jorm sized mongoose. Your 1, 3 and 4 all proc his passive, your ult goes off faster than his, and if you ever catch him without ult he is 100% dead. you just have to play around his better levels 1-3 while still poking and avoiding his poke. come level 5, the tables turn very very fast.
Arthur: Cripples destroy arthur, and without his big ult, he cant get out of your ult. once you get that level 5 kill, you farm him.
Most squishy solo laners: self explanatory really. ult them.

About 3 to 8 minutes parts in the video - what I meant.
That said, even in casual settings, I will agree it can always help to describe in which cases a god might be best used outside of their normal roles, and what considerations to make when choosing them...pros / cons of playing them in that non-meta role.
