Poseidon is my favorite god in Smite and this is how I build him in Joust (which is what I mainly play). He is my favorite god in Smite because he has so much damage output that can be used on a singular target to destroy them or in a whole group to rack up multi-kills or help your team. Not only his damage but his sustain late game and his passive are amazing. His 3 is so overpowered in my opinion because if you center someone in it, it not only cripples them, but does a frightening amount of damage, heals you (if you have lifesteal) a lot, and allows for your team to shred them, or helps you set up for your ult. His ult is also amazing because after practicing it for a while, you will get really good at centering it, maximizing its damage and ability to destroy the enemy team.
Like I will say over and over, this build is what I USUALLY build in joust where there isn't as many tanky items being built (that I see). The starter items, Vampiric shroud is good for sustain because of it's health, MP5, and lifesteal while sands of time is good for an early damage build because it has the power, MP5, and cooldown reduction so its is purely based on your preference. This build has Shoes of the Magi and Spear of Desolation for that good old penetration but if the enemy has a lot of protections, then I would recommend switching out Book of Thoth or Gem of Isolation for Obsidian Shard. Obviously, Bancroft's Talon is for life steal and good damage while Book of the Dead has its benefits of health and the lit shield but less damage than Bancroft's Talon. I like to build Chronos' pendant on Poseidon (and basically almost every mage I play) because it has relatively nice damage and really good CDR thus, you can use your Kraken and Whirlpool and Tidal Surge (Damage dealing abilities) more often. Spear of Desolation is one of my favorite penetration items because as of now, it has good damage, decent penetration, and a nice passive, the only downside to this item (and this whole build in general) is it is expensive. Lastly, Rod of Tahuti is used for the extra damage to make your Kraken go from a "hit to the gut" to a "get ran over by a car" feeling.
This is probably a heavily debated subject with Poseidon fans because all of his abilities are important to his kit in their own way. I personally like to upgrade his 3 first because of its potential to do damage with teammates using stuns, using Poseidon's 1, or his 4. Secondly, I like to upgrade his 1 because of its pure damage and its ability to knockback opponents preferably into your 3. I upgrade his 2 last because upgrading it really only makes you go faster and decrease the cooldown but just the first upgrade provides you with the 3 basic attacks. Lastly, I upgrade the ult in first priority because of its amazing damage and ability to combo with your other abilities.
Poseidon is fun, good, and lit. Play him and win. The end.
Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.
